@Steve, I love that tabletop 8-track. Sorry I am late to the party, but I was camping last week (actually staying in 10th Mountain Division hut in the mountains with friends).
Two weeks ago I went to a garage/estate sale run by a woman who decided she had had enough. It was one of those make a pile and make an offer situations. I went through the house and pulled out a few small things and offered her $5 which she accepted. Then she said that the books were all free. There were around 30 boxes of books in the driveway and I grabbed 4 or five boxes full. Right away, I had a few of sales from that.
The owner had been an amateur archeologist and his vintage collection of guides to various Southwestern sites have been very popular: https://www.ebay.com/itm/193664304869 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193662878568 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193662907102 I had other sales, but I won’t bore you with them
He also was a woodworker and I was able to sell a large lot of woodworking magazines at $3/each plush shipping (divided into two separate lots at buyers request) https://www.ebay.com/itm/193662844783 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193659971267
Other interesting sales:
Vintage Dior perfume for $45: https://www.ebay.com/itm/193624284547
1985 Rock Lords Transformer $16.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193613442056
1957 Comedy Comic Book $32.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193661179191
Enesco Rudolph figurine $49.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193581482508
1950 Catholic Bible $28.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193639164975
It has been a great summer for finding stuff at garage sales. I think many people have taken the opportunity of being home to get rid of stuff. Now I have some huge piles to work on this winter. Best regards to all.

09/17/2020 at 8:47 pm in reply to: LBJ Ranch card, Portable 8-Track Player, Mushroom clock, Deena ashtray stand #81667Thanks for your video Steve. I always enjoy seeing what you are selling and what your pups are up to. I’ve run into Arnels ceramics in the past – always mushroom designs and always with the name of a person on the back – I presume it is someone that put the clay in the mold since it is scratched in to wet clay.
My biggest sale last week was this Sandwich Ilses Jacket from the 1960s. I put it up at auction with the starting price of $300. I had four bidders who took the price up to $417.99 which I am happy with. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193645087692
At an estate sale, I came across a lot of 1980s software that was not priced. I got it all for $2 and have been selling it off in pieces. This 1986 copy of “The Toy Shop” by Broderbund sold for $24.50.
When you go to garage sales, people always ask if you are looking for something. Last summer I responded “vintage and antique toys” to a woman in a near by neighborhood. She held up a finger and ran inside then came out with a box of 30 vintage dexterity games which she sold to me for $30. I have been selling them off, usually for around $30 to 50 each. This is one of the lasts ones and it sold for a best offer of $67.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193071363860
These bike panniers were a quick turn around – got them on the weekend for a few $s and sold them for a best offer of $100 in the same week https://www.ebay.com/itm/193650331756
I think I have mentioned that I found a box of tangled suspenders on a Sunday afternoon – the last day of an estate sale. I brought it up to the sales clerk and we agreed on a price of $1/each. I had to sit down and sort them all out to count them and paid $53 for 53 pairs. Most sold for around $50, but I have been discounting my last few pairs. This one went for $38.50. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192960416743
Hope everyone has a great week. Regards, Daniel

Total listings: 853
Items Sold: 25
Gross Sales (not incl shipping): $1096.29
Highest Price Sold: $417.99 – 1960s Sandwich Isles Jacket
Returns: 0 (1 unpaid for $90)
New Items Listed: 125 (books and magazines)
Money Spent on New Inventory: $65I had a good week due to a few big items. Lots of time, I sell plenty of low dollar stuff ($10 – $20). I can put myself in a frame of mind where it seems like a waste of time (especially when listing). On the other hand, I am a frugal person and “a million dollars is made $10 at a time” is something I believe to be true. Besides, sales beget sales – at least I think that is how the algorithm tends to think.
I am trying an experiment this week. I got a bunch of woodworking magazines and archeology journals for free from a lady that was tired of her garage sale by Saturday at noon. I listed a ton of them because they are super easy to list. The woodworking magazines are desirable but sell cheap. The archeology journals are longer tail, but higher price. I was glad to see examples in both categories sold in the first 24 hours.
I continue to enjoy (and support) your podcast. You guys have such infectious optimism, I find it quite refreshing (compared to political & news feeds on reddit that I have had to mostly stop looking at). Best wishes, Daniel.
Thanks for looking into this and updating us @Elle. I rearranged my process for 2-dimensionals in the way @mornink mentions:
(1) save draft on my laptop with title price and description ONLY
(2) open draft on phone and take pictures, then hit “list” (if it lets me)
(3) open listing on laptop and add item specifics then hit update
(I shoot 3-dimensional objects in the round with my camera and load the photos on my desktop, so no change in process there).
09/13/2020 at 11:56 am in reply to: Zenith record player, Oil lamp, Linemans belt, Matchbox truck, Panasonic Stereo #81526Its been a while since I posted anything. Here are my interesting sales from last week:
Lot of 1980s 3.5″ Disk games https://www.ebay.com/itm/193637972220 I auctioned them because I saw the best prices seemed to come from that approach in this category. I only had two bidders, but got about the price I expected.
I bought a 3-pack of gloves at Costco and sold one pair for 2/3 of the price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/193643599676
This r/c Lamborghini sold for a best offer of $80 https://www.ebay.com/itm/193649191887
When it comes to men’s accessories, I think the label is the most important thing (after condition): https://www.ebay.com/itm/193613286152
Getting ready for holiday season by listing a bunch of ceramic village stuff. Someone had a search for this one as it sold within a few hours of listing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193585288023
The weirdest sales I made last week by far were these Jura Castor robot (toy) parts from France. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192856618406 I have had these parts listed for two years and only had one buyer. Last week, I had three different buyers purchase robot parts. I am guessing there was a news story or something that prompted people to dig out their old toys from the basement. #longtailsuccessstory
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/cast-iron-mens-shoe-1999-s-sarna-2017312797
This one sold for 123.99 on 9/8/19, but I note that it is listed as cast-iron. I wonder if the seller made a mistake about the material OR if the product was actually cast in resin AND in metal?
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/5-ceramic-torn-shoe-planter-sarna-1914588822
This one is described as ceramic (sold for $25)
I would like the badge for weird vintage stuff from trusted sellers to be “Funkadelic”
Congratulations @Simon
I took early retirement from my organization in Summer, 2018, and I have been having a blast ever since. The initial 6 months off from work is THE BEST – enjoy it.
Thanks @sonia, I found this thread helpful:

My concern with selling on eBay is that you need someone to look at the stones and determine quality. You need an expert to look at the stones with a loop and grade them. Could be crap CZs or could be $1000s.
08/18/2020 at 8:18 am in reply to: Made this to print on my 4×6 Rollo Thermal printer, cut 4, put on every shipment #80782I’ve already lost $s on a sale that was delayed by USPS so long that I had to provide refund to buyer. I printed a half dozen of these and started adding to outgoing packages. I am curious whether we will get any complaints from the Fox News consumer set.
Hi Lisa. I am also in Colorado, but I am mostly not caring for elderly parents (my wife’s parents are still healthy & independent and mine passed away a few years ago).
I am in Arvada. Maybe I’ll run into you & your mom at the garage sales tomorrow. Best wishes, Daniel.
Thanks Sharyn. I’ll give them a try.
