I was picking up what you were putting down.
@Julie B – I have calculated shipping on pretty much everything, plus best offer. In my mind, having the buyer see who much they are paying for shipping lessens the likelihood of wanting to return something. I think it’s the psychological pain of knowing how much money they threw away on shipping if they returned the item.
Technically, if you are selling with free shipping, you are including the cost of shipping in the original price. But, without seeing it, it’s easy to forget and really think that free shipping is free.
That’s how my brain works, so I assume other people feel the same way. This weekend, I had someone make an offer, I countered, they countered back, I accepted, they immediately canceled.
I didn’t bother to ask why they canceled, just accepted it and had it relist. Who knows. That sounds much saner than my approach. In my defense, I thought it would be nice to have the puzzle out and work on it a little here and there as a distraction. Boy was I wrong.
Your panoramic story reminded me of my own. I was in the marching band in college and every year they would arrange us in the stands for a picture. The band director would pose on one end of the band and once the camera got past him, he would jump down and run as fast as he could to get to the other side of the band before the camera got there. All the kids would be laughing like loons for the picture and he would be smiling casually from both sides of the picture.

I’ve definitely noticed that certain items get lots of likes or quickly purchased on Poshmark but barely any views on Ebay. It’s a different audience.
I think this is the last puzzle I’ll be doing for a while. I keep finding myself working on it rather than listing. I don’t even particularly enjoy doing them but that *need* to have it finished keeps grabbing me.
Maybe, if I find another one that is worth a little bit of money, I’ll hand it off to my brother and ask him to do it. He always seems to have a puzzle going.Nancy, thanks for this post. You’ve confirmed my next step.
My plan, once I finish the last of my death pile, is to go through my old clothes and shoes listings and cross post them onto Poshmark. I am prepared to have to rephotograph some items because I’ve got a much better camera and lighting compared to a year+ ago.
Many of these items are ones that I wouldn’t buy again. I could just redonate them but I think I would like to give them another chance on Posh, plus not be embarrassed by my old crummy pictures. Not Friday but about halfway through with the puzzle.
Sonia – do they? I hadn’t noticed. It would be easier to hide one payment a month than to figure out how to hide the daily sales. Thanks for that.
Thanks Sonia and Ryanne. It’s nice to have people verify.
I listed 10 items of clothes the other day. Guess which one was the first to sell? The Levis Denim Shirt with Stains.
I paid about $1 and got $10 plus shipping. Not an awesome return but not terrible. The thought of doing this makes my stomach hurt. I had to do a little bit of project management in my last job and I HATED it. I don’t think anyone could pay me enough to consider going back to that kind of work.
Congratulations on the sale. Goodness knows you earned every penny of your commission.I rarely ever ship anything super big or super heavy. I pretty much ship everything either first class or priority.
I have shipping policies for anything under 16 oz – the buyer can do first class or priority.
Anything over 1lb has a shipping policy of retail ground or priority. I almost never ship anything retail ground, I just go ahead and ship priority. Once you get your top rated seller status priority ends up being pretty much the same price as retail ground. The buyer likes it because they get to pay the cheaper shipping and are pleasantly surprised when their package arrives faster. What the buyer pays is still less than the ebay shipping rate with the TRS discount.
If the over 1lb stuff fits in a flat rate envelope, I’ll put it in there because it’s usually less expensive for me.If I ship for less that the buyer paid, I keep that money. When I first started I would reimburse that but I don’t now.
That’s really cool.
I used your link but I don’t have the option to send offers to watchers. Fingers crossed we all get it soon. -
