That look like a small apothecary jar to me. The band at the top is rough glass so that the lid grips and seals the jar. Try soaking it in water and then gently manipulating the lid to get it to release. That is great if it is a jar that it has the matching lid.
I’m not an art dealer by any means. If you have it listed at 15K I think that is a good starting point. I don’t know that I would automatically reduce the price every 30 days. Why? You aren’t going to get a serious collector on day one, in fact it may take months to find a following and finally someone willing to pay up for an original. Be patient and check your traffic every month. If you check and you have had 10 views chances are that your serious buyer hasn’t found you yet. Why should you automatically reduce the price? Be patient. The right buyer is out there and it will take a while for them to find you.
A high priced item like this is sort of like a thrift store with a famous painting and asking a high price based on ebay listings. They are going to have to wait for the right buyer who knows the quality and is willing to pay up for it. You can believe that GW wouldn’t lower their price automatically every 30 days. They would wait for maximum profit.
You have a great piece that will appeal to a multitude of collectors and at 15K they are getting a good deal. How can a seller not clean off mud, crud, horse poop (off boots) and gum? Cleaning the soles of shoes are not my most favorite thing to do. But a dirty, muddy pair of shoes can just mess up a whole tote full of shoes. And don’t get me started about having to put my hand inside shoes
where someone has had their smelly feet. I always sanitize and deodorize first thing when I get home. And I don’t purchase shoes for myself online if the photos show dirty shoes. I think it shows that the seller doesn’t care. Just my personal 2 cents.02/14/2017 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12550Being frugal has been a way of life since I was born and I don’t see it changing any time soon. We are both retired and I’m not eligible for social security yet. But being frugal to me doesn’t mean that you don’t have anything or aren’t able to afford anything. Being frugal means being happy with what you have and not wanting new everything every couple of years. I get “new” things all the time if I need them. I have what I need, a house that’s paid for, a car and a truck that are paid for and I don’t think I’ll go out and buy something new, really new, ever again unless it is the best thing for the situation. We just had to buy a furnace. New is more efficient so we save and the environment saves. If you are patient used will come to you if you need it. Better quality older items is definitely the better buying decision over the mass produced merchandise being pushed on us today.
Just my 2cents, but I absolutely hate free shipping. If you sell a f/s item and it gets returned you eat the shipping costs. I know, cost of doing business, but I still don’t like it. The answer I want to give customers who have haggled over a price then they want free shipping too is, “when was the last time you took a package to the post office and didn’t pay any shipping fees?” Never, so there. But I just bite my tongue and say no free shipping. If I have small items that ship first class and every other similar listing has free shipping then I do also. But I build the cost into the sales price.
Putting items on sale. Don’t like that either and don’t do that either. I think I have only had 2 sales since I have had a store. I didn’t see any jump in sales so I decided I didn’t want to have sales. When I get questions from buyers about when is it going on “sale” I always answer that I try to offer reasonable prices in line with other similar items online. Sometimes they buy, sometimes they don’t. Funny thing is that some shoppers who get their feathers ruffled with NO free shipping will come back in a few days and buy the item. If you have an item that someone wants and if its priced fairly and has a shipping cost they will buy it.
As always love the podcast and listen faithfully. Have a safe and happy holiday. Enjoy your break from ebay and the remodel.Get your second wind for the new year.11/09/2016 at 1:17 pm in reply to: What is the best or weirdest thing you have found inside an item you sourced? #5379I found $304 in a box of random cards. It was a box with boxes and packs of greeting cards and the $300 was in a box of Christmas cards. The $4 was in a box of party invitations.
I found 6 condoms in a vintage suitcase once. NEW in the package. I still didn’t want to touch them and I took them out to the garbage and dumped them.
I find a penny in lots of purses. I guess they kept a penny in their purse for luck and passed it on to me.
I’m still looking for that giant diamond ring in a pair of jeans. The most confusing thing was that my computer kept trying to use autofill to fill in my info. But it was an old service provider and I wasn’t paying attention and I clicked on it and….it was downhill from there. I don’t use autofill often and I don’t know why it still has the old info. Silly old me prefers to type in my info. Makes me use my brain instead of just blindly clicking keys.
Not really a reply just trying to see if I can post comments after an epic screw up trying to set up user name and password. No I am not a robot, just a senior citizen!!!
