Looks to me like either a cruddy knockoff of an MLB Cardinals hat, or more likely, a little league/etc hat. Just about every little league in the country has/had a Cardinals team at one point or another.
Safe to assume it’s not made by one of the big hat companies (New Era, 59Fifty, etc)?
Anyone want in on the pre-order for “Jay & Ryanne 2020” bumper stickers?
Suggested campaign slogans:
“America; Just eat on it”
“Whoop whoop”
“Buy it, list it, sell it, ship it”
“Make America Frugal Again”
“We are not our target audience”Alternatively, if you two decide to move to Canada, you’ve got my vote!
I’m just finalizing my tax numbers for 2017, and based on my rough estimate of 10-15hrs/wk spent on ebay, I made $23.08/hr on average over the whole year. That factors in everything but income taxes (COGS, household expenses, mileage, etc).
That’s almost as high as my full-time salary pays me (not factoring in bonus and stock options). I don’t have “F you” money in the bank (yet), but it’s comforting to know that if necessary, I could probably ramp up my efforts and replace the income from my day job.
Crazy! Congrats! I’ve been a user since 2000, but just checked my old emails, and the first items I sold were back in 2009.

Number of items listed this week: 13Pretty standard week for me. Steady, but not busy. Got a bunch more listed out of my death piles, and some of it has sold already. Had an informal meeting last night with a few local Amazon sellers. I’ve dipped my toes in, but have done very little actual selling (less than 100 items in 2017). Hoping to do at least a little bit more this year. I certainly don’t enjoy the platform like I enjoy ebay selling, but the opportunity for another income stream (even if it’s small) is too hard for me to completely ignore.
On a personal level, we’re moving a few months from now, and are debating either selling or renting our existing house. We’ll likely look to rent, and if there’s not much/enough interest, we’ll list it. In the meantime, we’ve begun a HUGE purge. Things we’ve been hanging onto for YEARS are being donated, listed, thrown out, and sold locally. We’ve come to the realization that very few of our belongings are sentimental enough to keep clinging to, and that much of the “value” they’ve been given was given by others, and not us. It’s nice to have less clutter, less to move, and for the stuff that remains to be actually meaningful to us.
I’m with Steven. If there are none listed or sold, price it at $20-30 and wait…and wait…and wait…
It might go quickly, but more likely, you’ll have it for quite a while. Eventually, it’ll sell if you’re patient.
This time a year, and with a full-time day job, I don’t get much listed during the week. My current goal is to increase my active listings by 100 items each month, so I aim to list 150-160 per month to also replace sold inventory.
My strategy during the winter months, since it’s dark during the mornings and evenings before/after work and I have no natural light to work with, is creating draft/scheduled listings that are 100% ready to go, minus pictures. That way, on Saturdays and Sundays, I can blast 40-60 items up in a few daylight hours.
Doesn’t really fit the daily goal discussion, but I guess technically, I aim to get 5-10 drafts ready per day depending on the items.
02/05/2018 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 346: Frank Discussions. Gewgaws. Storage. #32197Regarding inventory systems, we’re only around 14xx items total, but with our limited space, our current system works for us.
We’ve added shelving units in our storage space, and each shelf is numbered 1-##. When we list an item, it goes where ever there is room for it, and we add “S21”, “S8” etc to our listing so that when the item sells, we know where to look for it. Any given shelf will have a variety of items on it (mugs, car parts, books, lamps, GewGaws, etc).
We do a similar thing with clothing items that are in closets (“C1”, “C2”, “C3″…etc). Since we set things up this way (around the 400 item mark), we have yet to lose anything, and don’t waste any time finding things that have sold. We’re to the point that we’re running out of closet space, but have rolling racks that we’ll use, continuing with the “C#” format for simplicity.
02/05/2018 at 10:35 am in reply to: Looks like Ebay is partnering up with another Payment Processor #32134I’m assuming my questions/concerns/excitement are the same as most:
– What do the fees look like for sellers (more/less than PayPal?)
– If it makes it easier for new ebay buyers/customers, that’s great news. More potential sales.
– I’d prefer to not be on a set schedule like Amazon payments (ie every two weeks), but that’s generally about as often as I’m transferring out of PayPal anyway. It’s just nice to have the flexibility if a sudden need for funds pops up in the interim.
– Best offer/immediate payment/hold would be AMAZING.I’m neither worried, or excited about any of it yet. We’ll have to see how it all unfolds and what the pros/cons are, but there’s potential for dramatic improvements, and some crappy downsides as sellers too.

Number of items listed this week: 0Another decent week in my main store.
Interesting sales were two pieces off of my old turntable. I recently upgraded, and bought a new one, and posted my old one for sale locally. One person came to see it (I had priced it at $80), and I had no other interest. I started pulling it apart to part out, and within a week of listing sold one piece for $19.99, and another for $69.99. Already made more than I had it listed locally for, have a TON of other good parts left to list/sell, and the kicker is I originally bought it for $40 about three years ago.
Also, loved hearing your cat’s opinion near the end of the episode! Haha

Number of items listed this week: 2Interesting sales included parts of our old kitchen blender that we started parting out. The motor died, so we listed the glass jug, blades, lid, cap, etc. We’ve made $37 off of the parts so far, and I think we only paid $25 for the whole thing originally (like ten years ago).
Had two sales to the set designers of True Detective season 3 (thanks for solving the mystery, Ryanne). Both were 60’s/70’s office type items.
Also noteworthy, 10/19 of the sales in our main store were hats (five went to one buyer for a total of $166).
Been trying to get our total listings to 1400 this month (between both stores), but stuff is selling too quickly to get it there with only the evenings/weekends available for listing. Good problem to have I suppose.
We’re currently at the highest 60-day sales total we’ve ever had ($4,107). One of my goals for 2018 is to get that above the $4,500 mark (average of $75/day). Getting close, just have to keep pushing…
Nailed it! Haha Two different women, both at the same address there. Both have IMDB pages for set design/etc. Too cool. At least now I know what show to watch for my stuff.
Not sure what show/movie they’re working on, but this week, on separate days, I sold a vintage gooseneck lamp and a vintage rolodex to a two set designers, in Arkansas of all places. The both used the same address, so they’re obviously working on the same project, whatever it is.
It’s always cool to google a buyer and have the first link be an IMDB page.
Great so far! 24 sales in nine days. I usually 1-2 per day, so this is great. I’ve been going pretty hard at listing, but it’s mostly older listings (1yr+) that seem to be moving.
Pushing myself harder this year, and managed to get around 80 new listings up this past weekend. Just got to keep up the momentum.
