I really like estate sales the best! I’m never thrilled about not seeing prices on estate sale items but I usually find that it’s really cheap when I have a huge pile of unpriced stuff.
I think the sellers (or estate sale company employees) are so glad to see so much go that they give much lower prices than they would have on individual items. Or they get tired of pricing so many items on the spot and holding up the line and they just say $10.00 per bag in order to get the line moving.
It really depends on the sale though. Some companies do price high, but many seem to be just trying to get the property cleaned out and avoiding big dump fees. Their purpose is just to clean out the house so that the house can be sold.
Where I live the house and property prices are so crazy high that I don’t think a lot of heirs even care much about the $ that the home contents might bring. The most broken down shack sells for close to a million $ here. The heirs are just concerned about getting the place cleared out as cheaply as possible, avoiding the work to clean it out themselves and not incurring dump fees. They want the property listed on the market ASAP. Properties often sell as soon as the “coming soon” sign goes up in my town!
Thanks T-Satt! I’ll shoot you an email.
Thank you both, I did start over from the Seller Hub, and it’s hard to explain but the whole process was completely different than how it was for me back on July 4th… I used to just go to the Seller Hub, hit listings and then create new listing, start filling things in and then I would enter a number in the variations box and go on from there. I can no longer find a variations box even when I start a new listing from scratch using my previous method. I feel like that ePID box is in the spot where I used to fill in variations (?). Not 100% sure about that, as I don’t use variations very often, but I did just do one on July 4th using my old method described above.
Thanks again T-Satt and Sonia, I did manage to get the variations listing up with your help!
I hope this doesn’t sound arrogant (and/or jinx my future best offer counters) but I have excellent luck with counteroffering best offers and I wanted to share how I respond.
Here’s what I say: “Hello and thank you so much for your offer! I hope you will find my counteroffer a fair one for this wonderful (fill in your item name here). It is in (fill in the condition here) and (fill in flattering adjectives here). My best to you, (fill in your first name here)”
Lately I have around an 80% acceptance of my best offer counteroffers to buyers which is significantly higher than what I’ve heard is the average for other sellers. I think buyers like the personal touch message, signing your name and schmoozing by reiterating why they were attracted to the item enough in the first place to put in an offer.
I realize for big sellers who get a lot of best offers this would probably take more time than you would be willing to put into it. But it’s not too much work, just copy and paste, changing a few words here and there and not much time invested for small sellers like me. I don’t get multiple best offers each day.
Or possibly my luck is just due to my pricing? I always try to be competitive on price. Anyway, it may be worth a try!
Hello T-Satt!
I’m going to eBay Open next week. I arrive on Monday night and I’m leaving on Friday morning. I’d love to meet up with you & Veronica – after all we are neighbors in beautiful Colorado. I’m guessing we probably live less than 30 minutes away from each other. If you have any ideas about how we will find each other in the crowd, let me know!
I’ve never been to eBay Open before and any advice you could give on navigating it would be most helpful…
Looking forward to meeting you both!
My numbers for the week of 7/8 – 7/14/18
Total items in store: 253 eBay & 129 Etsy
Number of items sold: 27 eBay & 6 Etsy
Cost of items sold: $21.69 approximately
Total sales: $639.20 total: $599.20 eBay & $40.00 etsy
Highest price sold: $59.95 plus shipping for Janlynn Buttons + Bow Stamped Cross Stitch Baby Quilt Kit
Average price sold: $19.37
Returns: 0
Money spent on new inventory: $10.00
Number of items listed: 41Another good week for my little store. I got so close to breaking the $600 mark on eBay alone, and actually did, but then woke up to a request to cancel a sale from the evening of 7/14 on the morning of 7/15. Oh well! It was still probably the highest $ amount week I’ve had yet.
Wishing everyone a great week!

41 new listings for me last week.
Wishing you a great vacation week ChristineR – enjoy!
Wishing everyone else a great week too!
To me eBay is similar to a slot machine in that you never know when it will “hit”. I can have the same item listed for months at the same price, with no idea when that “right” buyer might come along and actually hit on my listing.
Also I only play quarter slots, which is similar to how I buy inventory for eBay, I’m not comfortable gambling with big money since I’m not a professional, just a player!
07/09/2018 at 11:13 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44979ChristineR, you’re not counting your Mercari listings? Should I have not been counting my etsy listings? I assumed if they were new (not cross posted or relisted) listings they counted. The vast majority of my listings are ebay but my counts are not accurate if I shouldn’t have been including etsy. My bad?
Vintage Lacy, as well as having similar names, we sell some similar things! I agree that sewing patterns can go for more on etsy, but I sometimes go for the bigger audience, faster sale with ebay instead. Some patterns I couldn’t give away on ebay have sold on etsy though! And what is the subject of the book you are writing?
Amatino – you can do it! Just list one thing, your easiest thing, ASAP, to get the ball rolling!
I forgot to say that I listed every single day last week, which might be a first for me! This week is jam-packed though, so I’m not expecting this week to be like last week.
07/09/2018 at 10:58 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 368: Is Our Business an eBay Hack? #44977My numbers for the week of July 1 – 7, 2018
Total items in store: 253 ebay & 129 etsy
Items sold: 21 ebay & 3 etsy
Cost of items sold: $23.25 approximately
Total sales: $289.70 ebay & $34.95 etsy
Highest price sold: $29.95 + shipping: Vintge My Buddy Doll
Average price sold: $13.53
Returns: 0
Money spent on new inventory: $3.00
Number of items listed: 76It was a soft sales week for me, I guess the 4th of July holiday as well as it being summer affected my sales. I had one day last week on July 5th, with zero sales! I’m expecting this week to be better, I’m within $70.00 of last week’s total as of Monday night this week.
Wishing everyone a great week!
07/09/2018 at 10:21 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44850Amatino, no worries, and no apology needed – Vintage Lacy and I have pretty similar names, I totally see how a mix up could happen!
New listings this week for me: 76! Love those sewing patterns as far as listing: so fast and easy to list! Downside is they are super low dollar items which brings my ASP way down. It’s always something 🙂
Mine are just now completely fixed!
07/05/2018 at 6:27 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44533Amatino, I think Vintage Lacy and I got switched around on the # items we listed last week. Having joined the game so late I need all the points I can get – LOL!
07/04/2018 at 10:40 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44402Whoo-hoo! One of the large items I listed as part of the mini-challenge just sold!
Yes Sharyn, you are correct. They aren’t very commonly found outside the stores, but sometimes they made it into personal collections after the new books came in. Estate sales that have a lot of sewing stuff are where you will most likely find them.
