Amatino: First of all pat yourself on the back for listing 5 things while fighting the flu! And if you’re disappointed in yourself for not listing more: forgive yourself and move on.
Now on to the penalty (it’s hard to type while I’m rubbing my hands so gleefully!) – For the next week you will write down the answers to these 3 questions first thing each morning: 1. “Today my top project is…” 2. “This project matters to me because…” 3. “One small action I can take to move forward is…”
It takes only a few minutes in the morning – I promise you! Try it for a week to see if it’s a motivator for you. It works well for me, I write while I drink my morning coffee. Sometimes it takes until I’m really really tired of writing the same thing day after day until I actually do the project, but whatever it takes to get me going is okay with me!
Hello Fellow Challengers!
I’m posting early again just to get a break from the mind numbing listings I’ve been working on today. Honestly if anyone ever needs a way to break themselves from buying cheap stuff that will also sell for cheap (me) all one has to do is spend an entire day listing only $6.00 items. Sigh.
I listed 39 items last week and last week went really well (for me) as far as sales. I had 4 days with over $100 in sales which is really good for my little store. Of course as of 4 pm on Sunday I’ve had zero sales today. Ouch. Still, I’m pretty happy with the traction listing a lot more items seems to have brought me.
Sharon, I hope you are enjoying your vacation! I forgot to mention that when you wrote “it seems like just yesterday that I was toilet training my daughter and now she’s off to college. I must have done something right” it made me laugh so hard!. I got this picture in my head of someone throwing down their training pants and immediately marching off to college. So funny!
ChristineR, I hope your work on your Dad’s place is going smoothly. You are missed here!
Vintage Lacy, I’m pretty sure that you are the Darling and I’m the Vintage that Amatino was referring to – LOL. I’m really looking forward to hearing about your picking trip to California, I hope you had fun!
Amatino, I hope you are listing and organizing your tail off 😉
Wishing you all a great week ahead…
I had an interesting experience with removing a negative and a neutral comment last week. I wasn’t going to bother with asking for either to be removed but I was calling about another problem so thought I’d give it a shot.
After the agent couldn’t really help me with what to do about a return request where the buyer was going to switch my item and return a different model I went ahead and asked about the negative and neutral feedback I had. I think the agent felt bad knowing that I was going to get screwed on the return and pretty much just removed the 2 feedbacks without any questions. (I had already briefly explained why I thought they were unfair feedbacks.)
The interesting part was I then asked how I would go about bumping up my store subscription, since I had eBay on the phone already. When the concierge agent saw that I just had a basic store (I got concierge service for a year for going to eBay open in 2018) I sensed shock “Oh, you have a basic store subscription!” and a change in attitude from the agent. Kind of like “Wow, I did all that for such a small seller” – but just my opinion, I could have imagined it I guess…
Anyway, I’m pretty happy that I got the feedback removed and I’m back to 100% positive. I also got the case closed on the fraudulent return after it timed out, so it’s all good!Hello DP Challengers (or should I say hello Amatino, hahaha)!
First of all, thank you for the clarification on step 5 on “How to eliminate your death pile in 8 easy steps”. I didn’t get that it was either “list and then do something you like” or “do something you like and then list”. One after the other, not simultaneously, duh! Okay so I’m still struggling with that one, sometimes I’m doing it, sometimes not, hopefully now that I understand it correctly I’ll do better. Also I’m still listening (some of the time) to audiobooks while I list, so step 6 is hit or miss for me. Step one is also hit or miss, sometimes I have only my next item to list on my desk, but sometimes I have more than just that item. All other steps are good!
I’ve decided to set new goals for July. I’ll continue with the 30 listings per week, and listing every day. But instead of adding a new goal each week and cluttering this thread up with my weekly goals I’m going tp post all of my July goals now and just report on my progress.
My 4 new goals for the month of July are: Source from 2 places I’ve never sourced from before, list 2 items I’ve never listed before, research items with the highest solds in my area for 30 minutes and figure out my ASP in June and up it by at least $1.00 ASP in July.
As you can see I’ve veered off the orginal premise of this challenge and kind of made it my own personal goal challenge. But I am getting a LOT more of my old inventory listed, so it’s all good hopefully!
Yippee for you Amatino! I think that is what I love about a challenge, even when one has a valid excuse for not doing something you do it anyway. I’m very impressed that with all that you had going on and not going on (internet service) you managed to meet your goal. Congratulations!!! I’m also going to post over in the DP Challenge thread. See you there!
Hey Listing Challengers,
I’m posting now as an excuse to stop listing for a few minutes, I’m feeling blah about listing today.
I managed 36 new listings last week. I would have gotten more listing done except I fell down the rabbit hole of working on my basement and spent half a day getting my shipping boxes organized. I still have a ways to go but it does look better in the basement now.
This week will be a busy one with the holiday so I’m not expecting to accomplish a huge number of new listings again this week.
Wishing everyone a great 4th of July!
That will be a good story if nothing else, and well worth the $35! Back in the day when my husband and I had a retail store in Chicago I found it really interesting to meet the rich and famous people we sometimes got as customers. It was always weird to see someone and think “how do I know them?” and then realize that I didn’t know them, I just watched their TV show or listened to their music or whatever. I’m still trotting out some of those customer stories decades later 🙂
pythonesk, I do end up lotting together the individually unsellable ones, but I’m still just barely making my money back on some of them. It’s a poor use of my time and effort if I’m just breaking even.
Sigilini do you really want me to enable you? I can be more specific if so, but in general I look for vintage Vogue sewing patterns that are uncut, unused, complete and still factory folded – generally from the 1970’s or earlier. With craft kits I look for vintage needlework kits (usually from the 1980’s or earlier) that are unstarted, factory sealed and complete. Needlepoint kits usually do really well but cross stitch and crewel embroidery can also be good sellers.
Sigilini your duct tape/hypnotherapy comment made me laugh:) I do think that might be what it takes though…
I think your comment “what keeps me coming back is once in a while I catch a good one” is probably my problem with the patterns and craft kits. I had one of each sell once for nearly $100 after paying a quarter for each of them. Combined with easy to store and ship a potential profit like that is hard (or in my case, impossible) to pass up. The problem? There are so many that I buy that I can’t even give away:(
Sigilini I struggle with the same issue, you’re not alone! I have not yet found a way to prevent myself from buying vintage sewing patterns and vintage craft kits. I’ve tried telling myself “it’s inexpensive because it won’t sell for much, it’s not worth your time and effort to flip it” but despite knowing that the item is probably not worth flipping I still struggle with leaving that type of stuff behind.
If anyone does know a way to stop buying cheap stuff that you like to sell because it’s cheap and you’re telling yourself, “well of course I can make my $ back on that” I’d love to hear it!
06/26/2019 at 11:23 pm in reply to: "Better Late Than Never" category (Listings are Now Mobile Friendly by Default) #64174I just wanted to say that I appreciate this postive eBay change which saves us listing time as sellers. I was one of the people who thought it was stupid that I had to have every listing description checked for compliance. Since I’ve complained about eBay problems before I wanted to applaud this postive change also 🙂
Amatino, Etsy tanked for me. Once they added the pay for placement feature (my term, not theirs) and I didn’t pony up, my sales took a nosedive. Etsy used to rival eBay in sales for me but that was years ago.
I know Vintage Lacy said vintage children’s books do really well for her on Etsy. I’ve also heard that people who specialize rather than have a store full of hodgepodge stuff do better. I used to sell a LOT of vintage sewing patterns on etsy but I had a hodgepodge store just like I do on eBay.
I would say it takes longer to list on Etsy than eBay, due to the tags you add to the listings. I think there are maybe 13 tags? It’s like key words for your title on eBay, but it’s an additional thing to fill out on top of your listing title.
I do think there are less scammers, nuts and unhappy people shopping on Etsy as opposed to eBay. I had some really nice interactions there. But I just couldn’t justify the time spent listing on Etsy once my sales dropped off.
Vintage Lacy, I’m with you on the fabric! I bet you’ll do well on the quilting fabric you paid $18 for. I bought a big lot of vintage quilting fabric a couple of years ago and made around $600 on it. And 20 cents per piece is an amazing deal! I think your rationale for $3, $4, or $5 fabric on etsy works since customers buy multiple pieces and you wind up with larger $ sales from multiple lower priced items. I don’t like these one-off $6 items I keep buying, it’s too much effort for a single $6.00 sale.
Amatino I don’t offer free shipping, so maybe my $6.00 items end up with a little more profit than yours do. But $3.00 additional profit still isn’t really worth the effort I don’t think. I really need to stop buying the “ooh, I like it, I can’t leave it behind, I’m sure that’ll sell” stuff that I buy constantly. Bought some today, truth be told. Sigh.
EBay glitches here too. So far I’ve gotten thru the shipping problems but I didn’t have anything going out flat rate priority today. I also show 0 sales today although I have had some. Yesterday (and I think the day before) sales were showing up many hours after the purchases were made. It seems completely stopped today. Lots of positive changes on eBay lately, I figured that would mess up the system sooner or later.
Amatino, #5 is “Combine your listing practice with something you enjoy.” Which conflicts with #6 for me since what I enjoy is listening to books on CDs while I list. I meant to tell you about another youtube video that I thought was helpful with speeding up listing, it’s Bexa Boss Lady. Hope I linked it right!
