I haven’t been selling much but that’s because I haven’t been listing. There was a cold snap here in Louisiana in which it snowed last week, but mostly it was ice and sleet. I know a bunch of people who fell on it (including me!) Roads got shut down, the works. Then after that, I caught a really bad cold which I’m still dealing with. I’m hoping to get back into listing this weekend, or at least next week. I did sell some rainbow floppy disks the other day which I think the person will be using for sewing machine patterns since her name has ‘sew’ in it. Nice to know they definitely do sell!
Doublythumbs, I love that Jayne Mansfield ephemera! I’m a huge fan of hers.
I mentioned it in a past sold video and maybe on this blog but I had sold a ceramic pumpkin candle holder to the prop person on This Is Us. I was sooo excited lol. Wish more things would sell to places like that. I also got to go to a prop clothes sale for films here in Baton Rouge last summer. They had some great stuff even if some of it was too expensive for my taste. They were just needing to get rid of some stock I guess.
I rarely see wool made items down here in south La., especially the Pendleton stuff. I did find a LL Bean vintage wool hat that I need to list really soon. When it snowed last month, many people here didn’t even have gloves on hand! They were putting socks on their kids hands, lol.
These are my sales from December, if anyone watches, I will warn you- someone has already complained about the length of it (20 mins). Sometimes I just enjoy telling the stories of my sold items too much.
Doublythumbs, good eye on that Medievil game! I always keep my eye out for PS1 games since I used to play them a lot. I have a demo of it for sale with a lot of other demos like Spyro. Some people collect the demos as well as the full games so hopefully it’ll eventually sell.
Nice sales, Steve. Love getting sales when you got the item for free. I’ve done ok this month for not being able to list very much. I’m dying to get to my death pile this weekend. I’m also starting to want to thrift a bit, sometimes thrift stores will get NIB stuff after Christmas. I should have my December video up next week, but as a preview, I sold a VHS for a nice profit and a vintage Marvel shirt.
Interesting that some of you are saying that Etsy is doing better for you because it is for me. Unfortunately a sweatshirt that I featured in my last sales video that sold on Etsy has not gotten to it’s destination in Venice Beach, California. Wonder what could be going on because I don’t think the fires are affecting the LA area. I sent it out Nov. 30th and it says it’s still in transit. It stopped moving on the 3rd. Now I have to ask the PO if they know what might have happened. I’ve only ever had this happen a couple times before.
I totally forgot to post my November sales video! My favorite is the horror movie VHS lot. Next time I find a bunch of rare horror like that I’ll up the price.
That’s really funny that someone called in about their sales being slower on ebay after the summer because that’s the exact same thing that happened to me. I was blaming it on the hurricanes at first but I never really picked up to before the summer. I keep a little over 100 items in my store and last year I had 70 something but made twice as much last year in November according to my sales history. I knew it was worse. In my case, I think that it’s a couple of reasons: 1. I think I just happened to find better stuff last year. I found great stuff this year too, but I found some insane finds in 2016. 2. I haven’t been able to keep up with listing for various reasons. Plus I’m working 12 hour overnight shifts at the moment and by the time I wake up to try to list, the sun is going down and I have very little natural light to work with. I try sometimes with Daylight bulbs but I hate how it looks. I don’t really have space for a light box.
Etsy has been picking up the slack for some of it though which is awesome. I’m so glad I started crosslisting, some of my vintage 80s-90s stuff sells there for more than it would on ebay and quicker.

So, I felt a lot like Martin from Garbage Finds recently. I was walking my dog in my neighborhood and found multiple vintage cameras with some separate flashes. Two of the cameras I found included a Kodak Eastman Folding Brownie. Beyond that name I couldn’t figure out what specific type of camera it is. I threw it up on ebay for $50 and it’s getting several views. It seems to be over a 100 year old camera and would make a great display piece. The other is a super interesting camera called a Nishika N8000 that came with a flash. People that have these can create 3-D gifs with photoshop because it takes four images at a time. I haven’t listed it yet but I’m going to clean it up and hopefully it’ll be up by Wednesday or Thursday. I just can’t believe people throw away the stuff that they do.

I seem to be having good luck with Etsy actually. A shirt that I could not seem to sell on Ebay sold within a week on etsy. I just transfer over the same photos, minus two since Etsy only allows 10 pics. And it sold for more too! I was pretty happy with that. Also, someone bought the coolest 70s New York button up shirt on Etsy for $30. It was like a New York time capsule that showed drawings from Times Square, burlesque bars, and taxis from the time. I really liked the paper dolls, Steve! I think once I get more space I might try the parting out of a thing like you do. Still living in my one bedroom with my fiance for now.
Sales are still slow for me but I gotta keep listing. I did sell an Apple one shoulder strap backpack today for $35. I knew it would sell but I thought it would sell a lot sooner than it did since I’ve had it since the Spring.
