December sales are up! I’ll repost this one and January’s if I get that one done in time on the next What Sold.
I have more proof that 80’s and 90’s nostalgia sells well! I bought a Nickbox subscription that contains lots of nostalgic things from old Nickelodeon shows, like Clarissa and Legends of the Hidden Temple. It’s a fairly expensive box at $60, but it’s super fun to do unboxing videos for it. Anyway, though maybe half of the items were actually cool useful items, I ended up with a couple things that really just sit on the shelf. I listed a ‘Piece of the Aggro Crag” from the show Guts, and within a couple of days it sold for $30! I’m considering selling some of the other items I don’t need as well, so I can at least make my money back.
Just a random non ebay related question, are you guys planning on making the rentals “smart”? As in making everything in the house responsive to Alexa (Amazon), etc. to run lights, thermostats, etc. I don’t listen to your other podcast so I don’t know if you’ve discussed it. I’ve been hoping to get an Echo Dot for Christmas and thought it would be cool to have everything in the house voice activated.
I will post my sold vid as soon as I remake it. I made part 1 and put it under the wrong YT account. Then I tried to remake it at work on the weekend when it’s usually slower and the phone kept ringing, stuff kept happening, etc. So, I’ll try to remake it at some point in the next couple days and post it. Just for a preview, I sold a few fun things last month:
Beastie Boys Grand Royal Magazine I found this magazine in the free bin at someone’s garage sale. Just this one issue went for $30. It was a project of the Beastie Boys and it only made it to 6 issues before going completely online. I really enjoyed reading it because it had some very original and unusual articles.
Gary Numan Concert DVD This was a DVD that my dad gave me that I couldn’t find a value for. I guessed at $30 because it seemed rare. It in fact is pretty rare and can only be seen in parts on YT and bootleg. It wasn’t even in great condition and still got $30.
Lot of 3 Star Wars storybooks This set of Star Wars books was a complete fail. Each one was $2, so I spent $6 and only got $15. Probably because the new movie is coming out. These were original to the first movies so I thought they’d be worth a little more.My parents were never good with money, and at a lot of times were downright awful. I’ll never forget riding with my dad to 5 different pay day loans in one day, borrowing from Peter to pay Paul (or vice versa).
So I hoped to one day learn about it since I found it so complicated. I started watching Suze Orman by accident and discovered that she would teach money terms in a really simplistic way. I got pretty obsessed with watching as many of her shows as possible.
You can say some of her advice is debatable but there’s no doubt she’s probably taught a lot more people than just me about basic money lessons. I still don’t know everything, but I’m always trying to learn more, and make good decisions.
I’ve only found one set of vintage cards before, and they didn’t sell for much either. I do love tarot cards though, as I’ve said before! Sales have been fairly slow. I’ve been frustrated lately about how many watchers there are on certain items and no one buying. I know I shouldn’t care, but I get obsessed with views and watchers. It’s hard for me not to check every hour or so, lol.
Brian, I am down with the tarot card thing. I now ask for them at almost every garage sale like a weirdo. One time they said yes, unfortunately those weren’t worth anything, lol. Here’s a tip, even though they aren’t technically tarot, Sylvia Browne put out a set of cards that I sold for $35. I think they are kind of hard to find.

Did ok, hopefully November is even better. I think what helped is that I came across a really nice haul one Saturday that made me some money on the Goosebumps Door Knocker and Metallica tape. The Tool hoodie helped a lot too! If only I could always have stuff on hand that sells really fast. I’ve mostly been selling old stock and bread and butter items. I’m constantly on the watch for better selling items out there though! I’ve learned so much in the last year and I’m non stop watching What Sells vids.
