Welcome, Kenya!
Your moves around the country seem to mirror mine. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, moved to Sacramento area, then to D/FW area. Have now been in CT since 1996, though.

I love taking dirty junky things and making them shiny new again and then selling them.
Said by me to my husband earlier today as I was scrubbing some mugs/dishes up for listing:
Wouldn’t it be great if I could get as excited about cleaning up our own stuff as I do about cleaning other people’s stuff?
Great sales everyone! Thanks for sharing.
Someone has these listed on Ebay. Looks like they’re the same as yours. They have them listed as “Pfaltzgraff compatible”. Probably keyword spamming though?
A great resource for any kind of flatware is replacements.com. Their search feature is excellent, even if you don’t know the manufacturer. You can put in a generic phrase like “plastic knife fruit pattern” and it’ll bring up some results. Their pricing is much higher than you should expect to get on the Ebay platform, so I generally set my prices at 1/2 or less of what they’re charging.
Um….I think we’re missing “Does item spark joy when you touch it”?

He has a B & M store and also sells at local auctions and on Ebay. The Bambi animation cel was auctioned on Ebay.
I’ve been watching him for 6-8 months and, as Winchester said, his subscription numbers are growing by leaps and bounds. A bit before Christmas, a homeless person sold him an original Bambi cel that he’d found in a dumpster and a good profit was made. Alex ended up locating the man later and setting up an account for him with half the profit as well as setting up a go fund me to get the man back to his family and on his feet. It was a very touching story that was given some media attention and I think that’s when his channel really took off.

My son first introduced me to the book/method and, after he texted me a photo of his sock drawer, I was a convert. Konmari(ed) my closet a year or so ago and have stuck with it. The post-laundry folding takes more time, but the payoff in streamlining everything else makes it more than worth it.
Since the Netflix series has brought her mainstream, I expect there will be a trickle down impact at the thrift stores for a period of time. Bad news for us sellers is that if a good part of the population truly embraces her method, their purchasing of clothing, shoes and “stuff” will nosedive.

One time when my son got a new phone and his data usage went up dramatically, it was due to that setting.
Great story! I think I’d be more wary if I lived in a big city, but my craigslist experiences have all been great (and, oddly enough, better than FB Marketplace where people aren’t quite as anonymous). Had two CL transactions within the past couple of weeks.
One was for a CRV cargo cover thingy that I picked up for free at my local recycling center since I have a CRV. Turned out this one was for an older model, so I put it on CL. I live in CT and buyer lives in MA, but was going to be about 30 minutes from my house later that day, so I met up with him. He said they’d just bought a new used car and his wife wanted to pay $1,000 more for one that had the cargo cover. He told her he’d get her a cargo cover for the cheaper car and was thrilled to buy mine for $100. He texted me later that night to let me know that it fit perfectly and his wife was ecstatic.
We decided to take our fireplace from 1997 to 2019. Part of the process was removing the large, white mantel and surround. I put it on CL for $100 and took $75 as the guy was buying it to build a fireplace set for his daughter’s middle school production of Mary Poppins. The next week, he texted me a pic of the set in progress. Made me so happy to see someone putting it to good use.
01/09/2019 at 9:00 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 393: Happy New Year and Returns Happen #54848Yep. Our decade made it under the wire with the pension. None of our kids will have them.
01/08/2019 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 393: Happy New Year and Returns Happen #54781We also have a couple of guaranteed income sources (pension and annuity) that will pay our mandatory bills, including mortgage, so if the market tanks, there’s that.
While the experts are down on annuities due to high costs, when my husband was planning to retire, he felt he wouldn’t be able to sleep nights without having enough guaranteed income to keep a roof over our heads. The annuity costs are the premium he’s willing to pay for that peace of mind.
01/08/2019 at 10:02 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 393: Happy New Year and Returns Happen #54765We purposely kept taking out 30 year mortgages and continually refinanced as rates were on the decline. At ages 60 (me) and 66 (husband), we still have a huge mortgage. We could pay it off completely if we had to, but with a 3.625% interest rate, along with tax deduction for the interest, we’re better off having that money invested.
If you’re looking for new…all twins.
I have two of these:
