Perfect timing. I had 16 sport coats scheduled to go out.
Mass edited on SixBit to add the N/A in Waist size. Fixed that issue.
Now for eBay to fix it on their end…
FYI – I talked with eBay Concierge, and yeah, they dropped the ball on the requirement for a Waist Size on a Sport Coat. They merged the category and forgot that you don’t HAVE a waist size for a Sport Coat (you did for Suits, hence the issue when they merged).
He confirmed and was with me when we developed the workaround – Add “N/A” to the listing when it is a Sport Coat. So anyone else that has this, that is the official work around.
Yep. No special characters except hyphen. Remove everything else.
Yeah, I saw the new “Casual Button Down Shirts” earlier today, figured that is the issue. I notice that “Sport Coats” is now combined with “Suits and Suit Separates”.
Downside on one listing, the “Suits and Suit Separates” is requiring a Waist Item Specific…but that is on pants, not Sport Coats. So one of my Sport Coats won’t list…
Sheesh…
I looked through the preview.
Yep, I can confirm what you said. When I preview, they are there. If I check edit, they are all stripped out.
So glad I have SixBit…
I looked at the recent relists from SixBit, and everything is there. We are still going without an issue.

For our active listings, the IS are still there, even for shirts.
I can see that if I’m on eBay directly, that my Item Specifics are gone from my templates for shirts, but are there for Jeans and Suits.
Looks like our Listings are not affected. I checked some current listings for shirts and our Item Specifics are there. Maybe because we relist through SixBit?

Now, we have in our templates the two pieces of code that they asked for, so since then, we haven’t had to do that. I just tried to create a new listing on eBay direct, checked the HTML section, and yep, very blank. I then created one from my old eBay templates…the code is there since we put it there.
Another reason to use templates…

I have three Custom Color Item Specifics, plus one called Shade. So the eBay IS could be Multi-Color, and then I have Color 1 – Red, Color 2 – White, Color 3 – Blue.

They have to be so broad in so many areas, very hard to get deep on everything like this.

This is something I have been looking at as well. What % of sellers are doing Free Shipping and Free Returns in some of my research areas? If we offer that, and a buyer uses those check boxes on the left, then I have less competition in search.
Something I’m considering to try next year. So far, Free Returns hasn’t hurt us, so offering both Free Shipping and Free Returns could be a good marketing strategy for us in some categories. Just have to test and see what works…
08/01/2018 at 10:39 am in reply to: Item Specifics 101: How to customize specifics for unique items? #46610Sigilini: I should have mentioned this. The Ebay Templates WILL save your Custom Item Specifics as long as you have typed something in the box as well.
So I have a “Color 1”, “Color 2”, in my custom IS. If you just type Color 1 and leave the field blank, it won’t stay. But if you create Color 1 and type “Blue” in that field, it will stay on the template.
Tough situation, especially if there are no photos that were provided by the buyer showing the problem that they had fixed.
I don’t think I would have ghosted on the first message, since they were planning to take action (and then did take action). That would have been the time to ask for photos to understand where the situation was.
Going forward, your call. Either refund the $20 and be done and move forward (my advice at this point), or contact them and say that you will honor the return and pay for return shipping. Downside here is that then they may ask to be reimbursed for the repair, then you have to argue more…slippery slope and you continue to have time and stress that $20 may fix.
08/01/2018 at 10:30 am in reply to: Item Specifics 101: How to customize specifics for unique items? #46606I don’t believe so. I have never seen how to get them in a proper order, so now I focus on getting the data right.
I might have to delve into that though. If I can figure that out, I do it once and it is done.
08/01/2018 at 10:06 am in reply to: Item Specifics 101: How to customize specifics for unique items? #46604Mike, thorough as always!
I can verify that yes, we do this similar in SixBit. I have all the custom Item Specifics set up in the Template by category, so it takes little time to make them customized to each item. This is also why for clothes and shoes, I have so many different templates. Short Sleeve Shirts alone has 4 (Casual, Cuban, Polo, Hawaiian), because the custom item specifics are different for each type of item.
Hard goods would be tougher, but we all have general categories that we trend to, so when you find yourself doing a similar listing a few times, make a template. I’m also constantly tweaking my templates when I find something that I want to add.
PS – On the Item Specifics that eBay wants…DO NOT ADD TO IT! Always select what they provide if you are going to use it. For their structured data, stay in the lanes they provide. For example, if I have a Burgundy Shirt, then the Color Item Specific eBay wants is Red, and I have a custom Item Specific called Shade that says Burgundy.
