I believe it’s $100 for Top Rated Sellers.
This skit reminded me of Ryanne’s typewriter packing video when attempting to ship a harp.09/18/2020 at 2:02 pm in reply to: LBJ Ranch card, Portable 8-Track Player, Mushroom clock, Deena ashtray stand #81686
Yes, those belts always need replacement as they get stretched out and just plain old. 8 tracks belts are usually very easy to replace, cassette decks are a bit more difficult
Work the radio, phono, tape, Aux knob back and forth a dozen times, that might clean the contacts enough to get an even balance. I use Deoxit spray for that and to clean the volume, tone etc. potentiometers.
The head and capstan (the part that moves the tape) need t be clean with isopropyl alcohol, that why it ate the tape. I’ve also taken up repairing cartridges, there are quite a few different versions of cart cases, there are YouTube videos out there on how to open them.
Yes, start high, you can always accept offers or lower your price.
I use highest sold price as a guide and price it according to condition or rarity.
I would hate to see eBay become a race to the bottom like Amazon.09/12/2020 at 7:49 am in reply to: Harmonica with no cover, no makers mark? What kind is it? #81498
The push button on the side identifies it as a Chromatic type harmonica and Hohner called their model a Chromonica.
Looks like it may be missing the cover parts where the makers name is embossed.09/10/2020 at 5:42 pm in reply to: Zenith record player, Oil lamp, Linemans belt, Matchbox truck, Panasonic Stereo #81460
If you ever attempt to restore it, I’ll be glad to offer help if you need it.
Take the cover off the receiver and let it sit in the sun for a few hours.
If that doesn’t work don’t be afraid of cleaning the interior with vinegar water solution, just make sure it’s completely dry before plugging it in.07/10/2020 at 5:32 pm in reply to: Selling strategy? Quick profit or hold out for more…. #79319
$500 for trash?
Pocket that cash.07/06/2020 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79169
Concerning other ‘New’ platforms and making it easy for sellers.
I’ve been experimenting with buying items off of Mercari.
A very disappointing experience, most sellers are complete amateurs, bad photos, little to no descriptions, poor communications, terrible shipping practices.
Although I’ve been able to procure a few items and make money reselling on eBay I can’t see how this company will survive.
I’ve purchased items only to have them canceled as no longer available, last week I bought an 8-Track Car player as not working with no guarantee for $12 plus another $13 for shipping, I wrote the seller to encourage proper packaging as I’ve had items purchased on Mercari just stuffed into a box with no packing materials, the seller wrote back no problem, a day later he cancelled the sale and disappeared off the site, the player was worth perhaps $300-$400 once refurbished.
Although Mercari is good about reimbursement I have not had a good buying experience.
eBay kind of weeds out the amateurs with their requirements to sell so it makes it a better platform for both buyers and sellers.07/06/2020 at 1:20 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79146
U Haul is my go to when I don’t have the right size box.
I usually won’t list something unless I have a box for it but sometimes that box will get used for something else.
I sold a 48” by 24” painting this week and was able to buy a large mirror box for $4.99, had to cut it down a bit but it was the perfect size otherwise.
Shipping weird size stuff requires a messy area of packing materials and a large supply of boxes.07/02/2020 at 10:56 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 469: Nothing Here vs Nothing Here #79002
Come on out to South Dakota, lots and lots of open territory.
You can get quite a few hours away from anything resembling urban.
The capitol isn’t even on an interstate freeway.07/02/2020 at 7:59 am in reply to: Scrabble Deluxe, 2 Boomboxes, Toilet roll holder, Toaster shell Clock movement #78989

I guess it didn’t make the cut, sorry.
You are correct, it has a large plastic board on a turntable.
Get the buyer on the phone and walk through the hook up process, his signal source could be faulty.
If it’s putting out on both channels perhaps the display is malfunctioning, th se EQs are fairly simple but a bad circuit board can be the culprit.
I’ve found FedEx denies all claims 3 times before you can get a refund even if they do the packing.
Hey Scott, thanks for the information you’ve provided about living in Mérid.
I’ve often considered retiring to central or South America, I’ve been to Uruguay and Argentina and just love the people and culture.
I may look into Mérida further, sounds like you have a good thing going.
I’m about 8 years out from retiring if I wait until age 70.
Looks like I could live comfortably on SS alone.
