ChristineR, from the USPS Site: https://www.usps.com/ship/shipping-restrictions.htm
“Perfume containing alcohol may not be shipped internationally or mailed domestically using air transportation. Perfume containing alcohol, however, may be shipped within the United States by ground transportation.”
A postal clerk told me one time that the bottle should be placed in an inner plastic bag and sealed. She also mentioned that only one bottle per package and that bottle had to be 16 oz. or under. I havn’t checked, but I believe that FedEx and UPS do not have a restriction on perfume.
11/06/2017 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 333: The Illusion of Keeping Up With Everything #25152Last weekend one of my older good till canceled listings ended for no reason that I could fined. It was originally listed in December of 2015. I checked it for offending html and links and found none so I just re-listed it.
Numbers for month of October
Total Listings: 852
Sold 60 Items for $1,410
Cost of Items Sold: $121 ($40 of it was a sale for a potential worker)
Highest Price Sold: $120 – Bound Liturgical Arts Magazines from the 1930s
Average Price Sold: $23.50
Spent on new inventory: $242
Number of items listed: 39
Refunds: 1 ($14.95)For me, this was a great month for sales, but I’m a little behind on new listings. I sold a pair of Puma steel toe sneakers for a friend whom I hope will take an interest in selling on eBay. I’ve been teaching him how to take eBay photos and hopefully I’ll be able to hire him to help me with my eBay work.
One of the bread and butter items I have been selling are beer patches and USPS Letter Carrier Patches. I was nicely surprised to discover that I sold $177 in patches in October which I think is a record for me. The beer patches are from a large catch I purchased about 15 years ago and the USPS patches from a warehouse estate sale about 2 years ago. This all goes back to what J&R say about cache finds, sometimes you have to go all in.
I started dumpster diving at an early age when I discovered all of the neat stuff my elementary school threw out at the end of each school year. A few years ago I managed a warehouse space, many of the younger tenants would go and dive the dumpster behind the nearby major chain grocery store. They always found lots of decent produce, fruits and vegetables. The best thing was the desert pies and cakes that looked almost new. Many years ago, living in the San Francisco Area, I would drive 1 or 2 times a week down to the Santa Clara Area and dive the dumpsters at Apple, Atari and a few other computer companies. I literary made thousands of dollars selling the stuff I dived. Now days, most hi-tech companies use compactors and also have several cameras. One trick I learned back then was to check the papers for companies that went out of business and were having a big auction. Many of the companies just emptied the drawers of the office desks and workstations in to the trash. Many times I would find small jars full of coins, all kinds of small electronics and many equipment manuals. I still look inside when I see a big dumpster, but seldom do i jump in, although I do grab books out of the book dumpster at the local recycle center.
10/27/2017 at 5:47 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 331: List and Forget, The Buy And Hold Strategy Of Ebay #24500This eBay link has some info: http://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/faq/global-shipping.html#m22_tb_a10_2.
“What happens to items that can’t be delivered to my buyer?
If eBay and/or Pitney Bowes determines that a GSP item is undeliverable eBay and/or Pitney Bowes may elect to dispose of, destroy or liquidate the undeliverable parcel, at which time title to the GSP item shall transfer automatically from you to eBay and/or any third party designated by either eBay or Pitney Bowes…”
And
“What happens to the proceeds received from the liquidation of my item?
eBay and/or Pitney Bowes (and any third party designated by eBay or Pitney Bowes) shall retain all proceeds (if any) received from the disposal or liquidation of the GSP item.”
A useful link is: https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/ab_toc.htm, Which is a USPS list of individual country with information on prohibited and limited items for import. I checked the list for Japan but did not see any prohibition for shoes.
10/06/2017 at 11:55 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Lamps, models, Army field jacket, Crock, boots, tapes, hats, Koi dishes #23670First you have to have a site to host your photos that you are able to link to. Here is the code I use. Please note I will use -LT- and -GT- for the “<” and “>” that way hopefully this will show up correctly in the Forum.
-LT-a href=”http://www.ebay.com/itm/202054029818″ target=”_blank”-GT–LT-img src=”http://stevelistsstuff.com/scavenger/mosaic_hammer_01.jpg”-GT–LT-/a-GT-
The above is the code for the Mosaic Hammer I sold. The number is from the eBay listing and the src= is the link to where I have the image stored. I may have to edit this a couple of times before it shows up correctly.
Hope this helps.

09/04/2017 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 325: New Rental Done, Now Hopping On A Plane! #22524Numbers for month of August
Total Listings: 841
Sold 53 Items for $1166
Cost of Items Sold: $145
Highest Price Sold: $90 – Pamphlet, History of John Browning .22 Caliber Rifle
Average Price Sold: $22
Spent on new inventory: $200
Number of items listed: 74I spent more than I planed for new inventory but I just couldn’t resist the good deals at an estate sale I went to. I spent $125 for several large boxes of wool yarn, 10 small boxes that each had 12 balls of French Angora (rabbit hair) yarn and 3 boxes of misc. I have sold 5 of the misc. items (some with free shipping) for $129 already, and I haven’t even started to list the yarn yet.
I use a mix of free shipping and paid. If the item is vintage and only 1 or 2 are listed on eBay, then I charge shipping. But if 5 or more are listed then I will use free shipping.
08/30/2017 at 2:50 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 324: A Day In The Life Of A Scavenger VIDEO! #22347Hello HABNAB, if you search on eBay for “Commercial 82″x48″x18″ 6 Tier Layer Shelf Adjustable Wire Metal Shelving Rack” they have them listed for $65 each with free shipping. They do have them on sale sometimes for abut $50 with free shipping, just depends when you buy them. Also, they have the 4 self version for about $36 with free shipping. One possibility for artwork shipping boxes is the FedEx store, they have specially designed boxes for shipping art, but they cost $10-$20 depending on the artwork size. Hope this helps.

Part of the reason I thought of Star Trek was this image that I found:
https://allergic-reputation.deviantart.com/art/Engage-337507010I found a few other Star Trek posters with the word Engage, but I haven’t been able to find anything close to the image in the poster I have.
Thanks Amatino for the Angry Birds suggestion, I looked at images of Angry Birds but didn’t see anything that matched up. I guess I’ll try reddit next.
Have a great weekend
-SteveI use Worthpoint almost every day when I’m listing, I find it very helpful for pricing and research.
I was lucky enough to get a special subscription price of around $10 per month a few years back when Jason Smith had the Thrifting Board and was on Thrift Hunters. I do not know if the deal is still available or not. I believe the price has gone up and is about $20 or so a month now for the basic service. They also have other services such as mark lookups and I believe they are working on an image search capability. I’m not sure if I would subscribe now at the higher price but for what I pay I’m very happy with it.
J&R, you might want to look into setting up an affiliate link for subscriptions, at the least, they would probably give you a free subscription.
July was a slow month for me. Sold quite a few smaller items such as beer patches and a few postcards. I am slowly working through my cache of tattoo flash sheets, I sold 4 of them in July for a total of $120.
Numbers for month of July
Total Listings: 818
Sold 42 items for $761
Cost of Items Sold: $143
Highest Price Sold: $68 – used iPod Nano 6th Generation – no accessories
Average Price Sold: $18
Spent on new inventory: $59
Number of items listed: 46
Returns: 1 – I just refunded and let them keep itI sold the iPod Nano as a favor for a friend, I seldom do consignments due to my own huge death piles.
Numbers for month of June
Total Listings: 810
Items Sold: 51
Cost of Items Sold: $146
Total Sales: $1213.99
Highest Price Sold: $59.99 Southern Pacific Railway Route Map Book – Cost 6.50
Average Price Sold: $23.80
International Sales: 1 GSP Australia
Spent on new inventory: $130.50
Number of items listed: 45
Returns: 1The return was a problem. They just mailed it to me without going through eBay. The problem was that they returned the wrong item to me. I emailed both the buyer and the original seller of the item (packing sheet was included), but after 3 days of not hearing back from either, I just went ahead and mailed the item back to the original seller. The original seller finally emailed me and told me that they had received my item and would return it to me which they did.
I am slowly making it through my catch of the Tattoo Flash Sheets. In June I sold 7 for a total of $305, that makes a total of 11 sold for $470. Since I originally bough 27 of them for $215 I’ve doubled my money and still have 16 to sell.
Now to catch up on my listing.
06/08/2017 at 10:54 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Prince & Wendy picks, Engineer boots, Coleman Cooler, Video switcher, Jeanie Rub massager #19201I purchased a lot of 27 of them for $210. They were all priced differently. It was the third day of the estate sale, so everything was 50% off, but I asked for an additional discount if I bought all that were left and got them for 60% off. Funny thing is, I saw somebody else that had one on eBay that sold for $40 that was from the same tattoo parlor, since they are in the same area, they probably bought it at the same sale, I’m glad they only bought one and left the rest for me.
06/08/2017 at 11:21 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Prince & Wendy picks, Engineer boots, Coleman Cooler, Video switcher, Jeanie Rub massager #19167Here are a some of the things that I sold in May, click on image to see eBay listing:
Tattoo Flash Sheet, sold for $50 paid $6.40. This is the 3rd one I sold from the lot I purchased a while ago, the other two sold at auction for $40 each.
7 Reed & Barton Royal Bamboo Forks sold for $42, cost .10 each
A mixed lot of copper pipe fittings. Sold for $50, paid $9 for the lot. These are often overlooked at estate and garage sales.
Partial box of greeting cards, sold for $16.95, paid $1.
A vintage Cottage Cheese Wax Container, sold for $34, cost about $1.00
I had this for over a year, so I took a best offer of $30, cost 4.00
And my best sale of May, I accepted a best offer of $300, paid $10 for it.
