it’s not just about state vs. county vs. city. It’s also about different types of items having different tax rates. Here’s an example justice roberts gave in his dissenting opinion:
“Texas taxes sales of plain deodorant at 6.25 percent but imposes no tax on deodorant with antiperspirant,” Chief Justice Roberts wrote. “Illinois categorizes Twix and Snickers bars — chocolate-and-caramel confections usually displayed side-by-side in the candy aisle — as food and candy, respectively (Twix have flour; Snickers don’t), and taxes them differently.”
So for the folks who buy candy really cheap the day after Halloween to sell on ebay, there may be different rates for reese’s (they contain peanut butter, after all, which is a food) vs smarties. lol.
But yeah, for now, just keep on listing. We small sellers are not going to be the first targets for enforcement of this.
Julie B, that sounds AWFUL! I really feel for you having to deal with that.
here’s a direct link to the article
Noone would be able to create an adequate business (ie $$) justification for a hurculean task such as rewriting the behemoth that is their software. In fact, they would probably end up losing money. Something infinitely more doable is to just simply devote some more resources to maintenance fixes, instead of focusing primarily on new “exciting” things that the board and wall street will like. But that’s just not how most public companies work, unfortunately.
bcfol440,
I don’t have any trouble believing in a “beginner’s luck” algorithm. I’ve been convinced for some time that ebay has one, too. I mean, when I started on ebay, I could only list 5 items, and they were mostly CRAP. The kinds of things that would just sit forever in my store now. But they sold relatively quickly, allowing me to build my store up.06/18/2018 at 11:57 pm in reply to: Buyer undercharged for multi-quantity purchase with Ebay combined shipping #42793What I do is just do priority shipping but without any flat rate packaging options. Then ebay just multiplies the weight of a single item x the number purchased, and charges for priority for that large weight. the only risk here is selling so many that you get into dimensional weight land.
Huh. That’s interesting. The last time (last week) someone bought two items for me, ebay automatically combined the shipping – there was only ONE “print shipping label” link, not two. And I actually lost money by combingin shipping b/c of dim weight. 🙁
Sorry, I think I went a bit off track. Hopefully others will chime in to help with your particular situation.
This is why, whenever I negotiated my salary at a new job in the corporate world, part of my ask was ALWAYS at least a week of unpaid leave – usually about 3. Yes, that meant I would make less per year. But I much preferred the time over the money. Nobody else did this. Everyone thought I was crazy. Pretty much everyone just wanted to keep getting promoted, whether they had management skills or not. I hate managing people so I chose to keep my sanity and fun over the money. Again – crazy to everyone else. That’s okay – I thought thought THEY were crazy.
lolto each her own
Glad it worked out.
I’m not sure you can turn off auto-accept completely anymore. There are some return types that ebay now auto-accepts on your behalf regardless of your settings. I think “fit” is one of them. Don’t remember the rest. Personally I find that annoying, b/c like you said, it takes away the option we used to have to give a partial refund (which I never used for “fit” but did for some of the other return types). Now that partial refund can only happen if the buyer messages me first instead of opening a return, and the refund is done outside of the ebay system through paypal, so no FVF partial refund.
there’s no way to do this without 3rd party software. I’m sure the folks who use it will chime in and and explain more.
northernpinesgallery,
Thanks for the comparison sale info! I’m going give them an almost-Ryanne-level price of $175 and hope for at least $150.Cool! It’s fun thinking of someone else listing/researching red wings at the same time.
I avoid all these issues by simply telling the customer to start an ebay return in order to get a refund. I’ve never had to call ebay in such a situation. Since you have already received the item, as soon as they open the return, you just do the refund via ebay, and you get your FVF refunded without having to talk to ebay.
It’s really that simple.
I would message client and tell them that in order for you to process their refund, they need to go through return process on the ebay website.
I have a Ukrainian alphabet option installed on my mac. I can switch between alphabets by selecting a different flag to appear on the top bar of my screen. If you have a mac, go to keyboard preferences, and there are actually a lot of different language alphabets built in to choose from, but I installed a different one that maps letters phonetically to their english counterparts – much easier than trying to learn the ukrainian keyboard layout.
