I normally print out the packing list (using the old bulk shipping page), and then cut out each strip as the packing slip. I use these to match the item to the label and then throw in the slip. These have never had the price on them.
However, today I had a rather large package for a doll crib, so I decided to print out the full size packing slip using the shipping labels page. This new label printed out without a price, so I am seeing this change as well.
I know that third party shippers ask you not to put a slip with a price in the box. I get a purchase from them only every once in a while. I’m wondering if the change is for these shippers since they are big customers and largest buyers for eBay.
Oh boy, I just saw that you location is in the Netherlands. I don’t think that I can answer your questions for outside of the US. Maybe my information will help, but maybe it won’t apply in your country. Is there a forum inside the Netherlands that might answer specific question about shipment?
I don’t have the answers to all your questions, but I will try best I can.
Do you buy your labels at the post office or outside of eBay? I highly recommend buying the labels directly through eBay. Their prices (at least for priority mail) are discounted and the tracking number automatically gets uploaded. One possible issue with tracking not being in the system is that you typed it in incorrectly. You can pay for the postage right in eBay and print out a label to your printer.
For international shipments, have you considered eBay’s global shipping program? As long as you get the package to their warehouse in Kentucky, they take care of the shipping from there on out. You won’t be responsible for late shipment.
If you ship direct, some countries do not provide tracking for first class packages. So eBay has no way to tell whether the package delivered on time or not.
Lastly, make sure that your packages get scanned at the post office. I personally bring the packages to the clerks and get them scanned right there and then. Some sellers work with their carriers to pick up at the house and scan packages as they go in the truck. Look into scan sheets and how to get them printed out. They save the clerks or your carrier significant time.
Thanks all – yes, life’s a bit crazy. I was just looking up the passport renewal process and student visa requirements.
I think I should look into a train or bus option for when she comes back for breaks. With the issues that seem to plague flights to Toronto, I think those would be more reliable. Even if I have to drive to Philadelphia or NY to pick her up, I think I’m fed up with the airlines.
I listed 10 this week.
I’ve been busy with outside eBay stuff including a trip to Toronto. My daughter committed to a local NJ college, but had second thoughts. I arranged for a trip to check out the University of Toronto. The thing is, we were supposed to make a trip there in April, but the flight was cancelled due to weather.
We were supposed to have a flight leaving this Thursday evening, but the flight was cancelled again. This time it was due to mechanical work that they weren’t able to finish in time. They rescheduled us for Friday, but we would have missed our scheduled tour.
So, I cancelled our flight and cancelled our prepaid parking. I then drove the 8 hour drive getting in to our AirBnB at 12:45AM. I was VERY lucky that this place happened to have inexpensive paid parking in their lot. I can’t imagine having to find parking at that time of night.
Anyway, we had a great time, and she has decided to change her decision to the U of T. W will be making that trip many times in the next four years.
I still have non-eBay stuff this week, and in June (including my daughter’s high school graduation) and in July (including a vacation). I might get a solid week in here and there, but I’m not expecting high listing numbers until maybe August.
Week of May 19 – 25
* Total Items in Store: 1366, eBay, 3 Etsy
* Items Sold: 15 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $18.80 + $5 Commission
* Total Sales: $335.54
* Highest Price Sold: $75 Christofle silver plate oval tray
* Average Price Sold: $22.37
* Returns: 0, but had to refund $12 on set of dishes where I miscounted
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 10Good week, but slowed down for the holiday weekend.
I finally rewired three bar lights that I’ve had for close to two years. I listed one this week, so I have the two other that I will list this coming week.
I don’t know if a kick will get me to list more than just those two. I’ve got some outside of eBay stuff to do in addition to the holiday, so listing will probably be limited to the photos I’ve already taken.
05/23/2019 at 11:40 am in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62365I think that some of the schools list volunteerism & leadership on their website as something they look at. She tried to get an editing position at her school newspaper, but didn’t get it. She did volunteer at the school media center, but that was it.
She was very interested in the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. In general, she met the SAT scores, grades, challenging classes, outside activities, etc that was expected, so she felt that her lack of volunteerism/leadership is what put her on the waitlist. The other thing against her is that they give priority over in-state students.
So, she can’t say that one thing put her on the waitlist vs getting right in, but these are the things that would distinguish one applicant over another.
I think she has put the waitlist issue behind her and just wants to see U of T before she makes the change. With thunderstorms possible both here and Toronto tonight, I hope our flight doesn’t get delayed.

I rarely see those pole lamps in my area. I wonder if that was something more regional or if I just haven’t been in the right place.
I bought this doll in an auction lot for about $1. It sold in a few hours for $33. I don’t know anything about the company, but, apparently, the Cuddly Sisters brand is very collectable.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183810287089This steamer pot also sold within a few days of posting. The postage was twice the cost of the item itself. I’m not sure what makes it so special. Paid about $3, sold for $22. Maybe I underpriced this one?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183807723376Bennington Potters is a small company in Vermont. I noticed that a number of them had irregularities. People who own them must be OK with that because of the handmade quality. I grouped the mugs into one listing with irregularities and one in better condition. One person bought both listings for $54 total. I paid about $3 total.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/183698924726I thought that this large, hand-thrown vase was going to be a long tail item, but it sold in just a few days. I paid about $3, and it sold for best offer of $60.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183808946784Arcoroc is a French glass company that has sold much better for me than other glass. This set was never used, but was stored in a very dusty area. I don’t care to list something like this as new, but I didn’t want to wash them because the stickers and packaging show that they’ve never been used. You can’t use “new” or “like-new” when you list something as used, so I stated that they were dirty but “unused” in the condition statement. They sold for a little less than brand new at $37. I paid pennies.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183810463961Another technical book sold that was given to me by a friend I used to work with. Paid nothing, sold for $34.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183777109922Yes, there seems to be a glitch with offer to watchers. I’ve had some listings showing eligible for days, but not actually being able to make the offer.
You don’t think that eBay would actually roll out a new software update without bugs, would ya? That would be so unlike them.
05/22/2019 at 10:09 pm in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62325Oh yes, our experience was similar wrt the procrastination and then the panic. That is why she started submitting applications willy nilly. Colleges love that – they make money on the application fees.
05/22/2019 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62319Interesting – the son of a friend just graduated with a biomedical engineering degree and doesn’t have a job yet (or, at least, a month ago he didn’t).
05/22/2019 at 8:43 pm in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62318My daughter is a senior in high school, graduating on June 20. I’m not sure that I’m the best person to give advice because my daughter did things sort of haphazardly. She had schools she had been interested in, but then just started applying willy nilly.
She committed to an in-state school, which is reasonably priced plus they offered her a grant. However, she is having second thoughts, and now we are making a trip to the University of Toronto leaving tomorrow for an extended weekend. If she changes her school, we will lose the $600 application fee we paid. The U of T is not horribly expensive compared to US colleges, but it is more than the one in NJ.
Anyway, there are these companies that help with SAT prep, college applications, and financial planning. While we didn’t go with one, I did go to an informational session. I did learn quite a bit because they go through all the different loan options (which I now need to brush up on), applying for financial aid, and so forth. The cost to use one of these companies is very high, so we didn’t go for it.
I’m sure that the book you linked to will have a lot of that information. The one that I read is called How to Pay for College and Not Go Broke (or something like that).
Consider a in person SAT prep class rather than online. My daughter wasn’t very disciplined and never really studied much. She managed to well in spite of that, but I recommend a classroom setting. Does his high school bring in outside companies to offer after school classes?
One thing that my daughter wished she did more of was volunteerism. Some schools really emphasize that. She is waitlisted at two schools, and she thinks she might have gotten in if she had more volunteer experience.
Anyway, if you have specific questions, I can try to answer. I did live in LA in the late 80s/early 90s, and I know the UC schools (such as UCLA) are reasonably priced and most are highly rated.
I have a friend whose company provides servers and technical support for the Usenet. Remember the Usenet? They are still around. I think that a good portion of it these days is used for porn.
Maybe most of those dial-up service companies like Earthlink are used by people who still are on the Usenet.
AtomicStar – I noticed that I had offer to watcher available on a dress I just listed earlier today. If you didn’t see that function on a newly listed item, it could be because that person opted not to receive that sort of email from eBay. Not every item with watchers will have that functionality.
I’ve had it for a while, but I noticed something new today. My iMac updated software and had to restart. When it came back up, eBay had new functionality where I can now filter my listings to show those eligible for promotions or for making offers to watchers. I’m not sure that the software update had anything to do with it, but maybe the restart caused the eBay website to renew or something like that.
Since I’m going to be on a short trip starting Thursday evening, I’m not going to use that functionality right now. I have to be able to modify the handling time, which I can’t do when an offer is still within its 48 hour period. I did try the filter, and it seemed to work just fine. This is a great addition because it has been a pain to keep scrolling on either the phone or computer, and I could never find them all.
Sounds like eBay made a software update today. Did you see the filter right away?
