I am currently not scavenging because I am listing on commission for my neighbor. However, I can count the items in his home as my scavenge of the week. This weekend, I brought over one of those accordion sewing boxes. This one is wood and made in Romania. I do not have a box big enough yet, so I made it a local pickup until I find something big and sturdy enough.

I also had a piss poor week with two days of no sales.
I continue to help my neighbor downsize and sell the better stuff. I found three boxes of matchbooks in a closet. I started to look through them, and some have 5-digit phone numbers which dates them probably to the 1950s. I need to do some research so that I know which ones are worth listing. My thought is to pick out the most valuable and list in groups, then do the rest in one big lot. If anyone has a link to a good resource online, I would appreciate it.

My neighbor’s stuff continues to be overwhelming. I need to get to start listing clothes this week, and I think I need to reorganize and buy another shelving unit.
Most people won’t want to deal with anything that has asbestos. Your buyer probably has old floor that he is trying to repair or extend. Your online auction sounds like MaxSold, but they don’t have locations in South Dakota.
Not too much interesting from last week. Here’s a typewriter that I got for free over a year ago when a neighbor was moving out. Sold for $37.

Gucci perfume I sold on commission for my neighbor for $80.
I have sent two (more than 4 pound) items using “UPS Standard to Canada”, which is very reasonable compared to USPS. This service requires the buyer to pay a brokerage fee along with any import fees & taxes when they go to pick up their package. The last time I shipped using this service I made sure that the buyer knew.
Other UPS services include import fees. I don’t know all the differences and if it is just this one method to Canada that is unique. Just make sure that you understand whether the buyer will have any additional fees in order to receive their package.
Hum, I’ve never really tested that. Usually, I get what I want up in the title, and then the tags are just repeats. I suppose tags are to get your items in searches where it normally wouldn’t show up.
I only have 32 listings on Etsy (and not cross-posted to eBay).
I sold more items than I realized this week, but they were mostly smaller sales. This week has started off slow.

@VT – That does sound like you dodged a bullet! You must have gotten the new booster that works against the variants. I may get that at some point. So far, I’ve just stayed with the original two shots.
Steve – I like to scroll through your solds pretty regularly. I guess I had been skimming because I saw the mini stereo turntable and thought it was one of your refurbished systems that you sold for $250. LOL
These videos are getting published later in the week now. If I go back two weeks, I had no really interesting sales. However, if I move up to this past week, I have one I really want to show Steve.
A few weekends ago, I went to a town-wide garage sale day. As I was walking through a neighborhood, I came to a house that was giving things away. I wouldn’t have known what this was if it weren’t for Steve’s video a few weeks ago. This is recording wire that came out in the 50s but was obsoleted by 8-track tapes. This is an original canister with six spools. Sold for $40.46.

This isn’t a particularly interesting sale, but the buyer is in Canada. These are two very heavy Mitchell service manuals for domestic cars from 1994, sold for $23. The best I could do for him was standard UPS to Canada for $46, which I had to buy off Pirate Ship. He will have to go to a UPS store and pay a brokerage fee plus import taxes in order to get his books. I hope these books have the information he needs.
I don’t like that the new tool does not try to automatically pick out the item specifics for you. On the other hand, I’ve saved a listing for later, opened it back up again, and then found some item specific that I definitely didn’t select. I’ll be happier once this gets fixed.
I have noticed that the requirement for UPC codes seems to have been lightened. Although, strangely, it popped up for a used vintage clothing listing I was working on. I put in N/A, and that worked, but it seemed out of place.

I kind of wonder how accurate those listing view numbers are. Sometimes I will see something listed within the past couple of weeks with 0 views but it has a watcher. I haven’t checked it lately, so maybe the glitch has been fixed.

Number of items listed this week: 19My eBay store reached over 1700 items. I’ve been oscillating above and below for a few weeks, but I seem to be over that hump now. I have a Basic store, and I paid about $8 over my store subscription cost last month. Most of the items I’m adding are clothing, so they count towards the 1000 listings (as opposed to collectables, books, and such that have a 10,000 limit). I’ll have to keep an eye out if I start to get close to moving up to the next store category. Somewhere along the line, eBay increased the over limit listing charge to 25c, so I can see that happening in a few months.
As I’ve mentioned before, I am listing on commission for my neighbor who was widowed early in the year. Most of the clothes are L, XL, 1X, etc., so my large mannequin has been doing quite well for me. However, she had a closet full of vintage clothing where the sizes are smaller (oh, the struggle of getting older). I went and purchased an inexpensive smaller mannequin off eBay for a bit over $70 with tax. It meets my needs, and the only real complaint is that the screw that keeps it in place and the metal rod it connects to aren’t that sturdy, but it works fine. It is pretty nice otherwise.
