I finally have something to talk about. The previous few weeks have been sort of bla.
I bought these two framed paint by numbers a few years ago thinking that they’d be pretty fast sellers. Actually, I did sell another one very quickly, but these have stagnated. Finally sold to Shop America for $58 (which usually means that they will end up in Japan). I paid $2.

I bought this retro record/cassette/CD player combo at a garage sale thinking I was going to use it myself, but I decided that I’m happy with my separate component system. I bought it for $25, and it sold for $73.

I overpaid for an auction lot of flatware, but I made profit on the first sale. A stainless steel flatware set, service for 8 – paid about $15 and sold for $46.

I purchased an auction lot that included Petite Flowers Stangl dishware a few years ago. I finally sold three listings for a total of $54. I paid a dollar or two for all of them. Here is one of the listings:
I had a buyer open a case about a delayed item. I did all the things I was supposed to do (contact the buyer, track the package, open a case at USPS.com). In the 3/4 days that eBay gives you to fix the issue, I did not get any movement on the package. I was not able to call eBay at the end of the 3 day period because I was on vacation at that time, but the buyer did call and was given a refund.
Suddenly, the package started moving on the weekend, and it was delivered on the 11th (about a month late).
I called eBay today about the issue, and the customer rep told me that I could contact the buyer and request that I be repaid or the item sent back. If the buyer is willing to repay me, I have to ask for their PayPal address in order to invoice them. If they want to send it back, then I guess I will have to send them a label or maybe they open up a return. I didn’t get into those details with the customer rep.
I was pretty emphatic (in a nice way) about this being an eBay issue since they are aware of the USPS issues, and they should not have refunded so soon. The service rep stood his ground, so now I need to decide what to do.
I have another issue complicating the whole debacle as the USPS is saying that I misrepresented one of the dimensions and are charging me for the additional cost (I don’t think I did). I’m concerned about having the buyer chose to send it back when I might get yet another charge against the package size.
Anyway, the above two paragraphs are just me ranting, but eBay’s response was the part about contacting the buyer and asking if you can re-invoice them or having the item sent back.
I received an email that I sent a package 3 inches thicker than what I put down. I suppose that is possible, but the PRIORITY package took over a month to get to its destination. Since they are charging me over $16, I will be contesting the extra charge!!
I listed 7 items for the “Tuesday Blues Day Challenge”. I was very busy, so they were all late evening accomplishments. I’m quite busy today as well, so I wanted to get this in as soon as possible. See ya!
Not 100% sure, but looks like this one:
I received a call last week from a USPS employee in KY. She said that my item was sent to the wrong distribution center, but it had not been lost. Like I mentioned in my post above, I really think that there is an issue with shipping through Louisville, KY. My last missing package was delivered today. All three were stuck there.
Last week, eBay refunded a buyer because their item was stuck in shipping. Two days ago, it suddenly started moving, and it was delivered today. I was told to wait until tracking showed that it arrived before contesting the case, so I might get my money back.
I wonder if the process will be different now. And, what other carrier are they going to announce?
I think by reseller license they just mean a tax certificate (called a certificate of authority in NJ) that allows you to charge sales tax. Then you are able to buy at an auction without having to pay the sales tax as long as you are buying for resale. I have to report my sales every quarter even though eBay now collects all the sales tax for me.
I have a business license as well because I wanted to create an LLC. However, I don’t know whether a business license is needed for a tax certificate or not. Can you operate as a sole proprietor without getting a business license? I’m talking off the top of my head without looking it up, but I think that you can.
I have two tape guns. One is a Duck brand that I bought from Walmart. It has a padded handle and works quite well. I use it for my eBay branded tape.
The other is a Tapeking that I bought off Amazon more recently. The tape seems to get partially off track when I’ve been using it for a bit, and the tape stops moving. I have to pull up the tongue where the tape is stuck and move it back. Then I’m able to use it again until the same thing happens. I use the clear packing tape that I buy from Costco with this one. The unpadded handle is not as comfortable as the Duck, but it is a minor inconvenience.
My recommendation (obviously) is the Duck. I’ve never tried Prosun.
I was on vacation all last week, so a big 0 for me!!
I visited some family friends this past weekend, so now I have all sorts of consignment stuff for the challenges. I also happened to source once during the vaca and have one item that meets the August challenge.
I do appreciate the participation points. Because I have a part time job this year, I’m not able to list the quantity that I used to, so the challenges and the extra points do push me to do more (as silly as it is).
08/09/2020 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 474: How Do We Only Sell High Priced Items All The Time? #80495For those of you considering how to sell off a large amount of items, consider an online auction such as Maxsold (if they are in your area). Look on Auctionzip to find ones in your area.
For those sites for free items, they are supposed to be to help your neighbors by giving them items you no longer need. I belong to a Freecycling group, and the rules there are specifically for personal use and not for resale. I’m good with that. Occasionally, I find something there I need, and I get rid of box lot items that I don’t care to resell.
I’m just getting back from a vacation and catching up with the podcasts. This particular week was quiet, and I had a 10 day handling time at the end.

I listed 22 items last week. That Monday madness challenge really helped out!
My total for the July challenge is 10.
She needs to open a return and select item arrived damaged. Then you can contact Ebay and ask them to take care of the buyer. Although, they may take care of it automatically now. I haven’t had to deal with a case recently.
This week, I had two buyers contact me about packages not arriving on time. After setting up tabs to watch tracking on both of them, I realized that the last location of BOTH is Louisville, KY.
One was shipped priority on July 13 and arrived in Louisville on July 23. It has had no status since then. The recipient is in Indiana.
The other was shipped first class on July 18 and arrived in Louisville on July 25. The recipient is in Illinois. It left on July 27 and is marked as in transit to its next destination.
The buyer for the July 13 package opened up a case. I chatted with an eBay rep, and I’ve been told that I don’t have to refund the buyer even though the case gives a due date. If nothing happens by the time I’m “supposed” to refund, I can contact eBay and they will delay the date. They are aware of the issues.
But, what’s with Louisville?
