Guaranteed delivery depends on your handling time. If you copy someone’s listing, make sure to change the handling time to 2 days or more (whatever you are able to work within). Guaranteed delivery is only for same day or 1 day handling.
You should go through all your listings and make sure the handling time is set to the appropriate number of days.
I had a reasonable week. Here are either good sales, or, as in the case of my first one, just an interesting story.
This very old book from 1874 sold for $14. I paid $0.50. The book was shipped across the country from NJ to CA. The buyer sent me a photo of the box, which had been crushed by the post office. The buyer said that the book was in great shape because of my packing, and he was very happy. Like all the books I sell, I had it wrapped in bubblewrap along with some loose packaging.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183346131345I paid about $15 for this tin framed mirror thinking it was worth around $75, but I took an offer of $50. Still happy with the sale. I ended up making a few dollars on the shipping. The buyer paid close to $60 since she was also in CA.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183596387010I mentioned in a forum topic towards the end of last year that I once purchased a huge lot of craft labels. I had tried numerous methods of selling them. I retook photos, I tried different quantities, I cross-posted to Etsy, etc. I was really ready to donate them, but I had one last idea to create a “multi-pack” of all the label types I have. I listed the multipack on Jan 17, and one sold on Jan 22! I sold it for $9 with shipping included, so my profit will be around $5. I paid less than $9 for all the labels. I probably have enough labels to sell a few hundred! Of course, this could be the only I sell, but I think I’ll see sales every once in a while.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183640677836The tiles in this vintage Mah Jong set are made of catalin, an older plastic similar to Bakelite. I bought it in an online auction this past summer for $27 and sold it for $130.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183267559158I bought this 1970 Sears catalog in an auction late last year. Someone used it to press leaves, but never collected them. Initially, I was going to remove the leaves, but my mom convinced me to leave them in. I paid $1, and I sold it for $25.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183554736767And I forgot to mention, I also have two day handling time. 95% of the time, I get it out in one day.
I hear you Tony! About two years ago, I sold a book, which I dropped in the post office slot. Maybe they decided to inspect it, or perhaps it was dropped in a corner somewhere, but it took nine days for it to get scanned.
After that, I decided to get all my packages scanned by waiting in line. I use the scan sheet when I have at least three packages. Sometimes, a manager will get behind the counter and take anyone picking up mail or dropping off prepaid postage, anything that doesn’t exchange of money. That’s what I did this morning, and I was able to cut the line.
Perhaps that function doesn’t work on the 5c? I know the app crashes on me pretty regularly, and I think it has to do with the older phone. I’m going to upgrade (probably to a 7) in the near future.
There have been discussions here on the forum about the call centers and how the customer service reps appear to be untrained, not knowing what they are doing, reading from a script, etc. What you are saying makes total sense and matches what appears to be the case with the eBay reps.
Someone who went to eBay Open last year said that eBay is planning to upgrade their call centers and perhaps move it to the US. I don’t think anyone has seen any improvement, so perhaps that isn’t going to happen or hasn’t happened yet.
I only use the app for uploading photos into the listings. I don’t see a slider for zooming. I have an iPhone 5C. What phone do you have?
Interesting question! When I was in high school, I would have dreams in Spanish if that was what I was studying, especially for a test. When I was in college where I was studying engineering, I would have dreams in “math”. Either way, I did not understand my dreams at all.
Now that I’m a “middle-aged” adult, I don’t really remember my dreams so much. However, I usually day dream as I’m trying to get to sleep.
I’m often on my computer working on eBay stuff close to bedtime. I know this is not good for sleep patterns, but I often have personal things to do during the day and don’t get as much done as I would like.
As I’m trying to get to sleep, I might be thinking about an auction experience, stuff I’m working on, or sometimes I make up stuff like finding a stash at a garage sale or buying a house with all the stuff in it, etc. I’m sure that Scavenger Life discussion influences those stories in my head!

Do you have an Aldi? Their parent company also owns Trader Joes. I buy a frozen sushi grade Ahi tuna from them all the time. It is pricey, but very good.

* Cost of Items Sold: $46.57 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $342.21
* Highest Price Sold: $130 Vintage Man Jong set
* Average Price Sold: $31.11
* Returns: 1
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 19Things to do list: I listed five office type electric typewriters and a necklace from my death piles.
I had 19 for the week, which is low.
However, I’m pretty happy about it because about 11 were from death piles (including 5 electric typewriters requiring testing), and 8 were parts from a personally owned vacuum cleaner that stopped working for us.
Amatino – I hope you are feeling better!

My husband went to two Walmarts looking for my son’s correct size. A 5′ 5″ teenager at 105 pounds is definitely underrepresented in their inventory! Even with the small size, I may have to shorten the pant legs, and it will definitely be big in the waist.
That’s really a big difference between the US and UK marketing for Dickies! My husband just ordered a Dickies coverall for my son (off Amazon). My son is in the Automotive Services program at our local VoTech high school, so the purchase is definitely utilitarian.
Steve –
I had a similar issue with a large rug about a year ago or so. I think it came to about 80 pounds. I also had to buy the label on the FedEx website for the same reason.
It’s a weird thing that they let your buyer pay for shipping through eBay, but then can’t sell you the label. It wasn’t just the weight; it also had to do with the fact that the end address was a residence and not a business.
I had FedEx pick up the item because I didn’t want to carry it into the store. I could barely pick up the thing to begin with.
95 pounds in a 20x20x15 box! That’s some heavy electronics!
flippincanada – I thought you’d like to know; MaxSold is a Canadian company that expanded into the US! Not the other way around!
Oh, yes! I used that hallmark to figure out when my Zippos were made. They all had original inserts as well. The inserts and the cover have their own date markings, and, if the lighter stopped working and someone returned it for repair, the company may just replace the insert. Then the insert and the cover would be from two different years.
I did not know about the Canadian factory, and I’ll keep a look out for it should I ever find them in the wild again.
