For those who never watched the VH1 series that ran about 17 years ago, “I Love the 80’s” fueled my love for all things 80s as a teen haha. Ryanne said she sold a Swatch a few weeks ago for a good price!
I would say looking at your items they are a best fit for Poshmark, especially now that they have expanded into menswear and houseware which means you could list most of what you have. A couple things to be aware of:
- they require square photos
- buyers tend to ask a lot of questions and then flake
- you cannot set a “Buy It Now” price; all prices are open to negotiation and you will get a fair amount of low-ballers
- it’s often expected if you enter into negotiations you will at least discount for “free shipping” so I build it into the price
- Poshmark pushes a lot of “sharing” and “following” social features but I have found them to be pretty useless in terms of generating sales and just overall time wasters. My advice would be to just ignore it.
With 800 listings I would probably subscribe to ListPerfectly for a month (you can cancel after) to more quickly cross post everything.

I had a situation with my eyesight where I was worsening with nearsightedness. I began to have a difficult time reading street signs and things on the board (during college). I went to the optometrist for the first time but he was reluctant to give me a prescription because according to his tests I barely needed the weakest prescription (weird, because I felt so drastically that my eyesight had diminished). I started to use the glasses I got but noticed while they helped in the classroom, my eyesight was becoming dependent on them for non-nearsighted situations.
Later I accidentally found a supplement that helped my eyes by chance. It’s called astaxanthin and I get it on Amazon. It’s an antioxidant and I was taking it for other reasons, but noticed that after about 6 weeks my nearsightedness cleared up. I went back and read reviews for the product and found that other people had their eyesight improve after taking it too. I don’t know exactly how it works or why, but I always keep it on hand. I take the 12mg dosage. If I go without it for a long time (6 months or so) eyesight will revert but as long as I take a little here and there it’s fine. I suspect that it has something to do with helping the eye muscles re-tighten and strengthen and works in that way. Anyway, something to think about.
Is it possible you accidentally put something in the subtitle? This happened to me today when I thought I was filling out the custom SKU.

- highest price: $30 Talbots linen dress
- Items: 137
Listed a ton of items this week, $500 worth. I surprised myself because I thought I wouldn’t be able to hit my goal of $1000 listed by October. What helped was really getting a process down and jumping on spare time to tackle bottleneck issues (for me, photographing).
This has been the slowest week of the year. Nothing sold for me on TRR and only 2 Ebay sales. I did however make a Poshmark sale I wouldn’t have made without ListPerfectly, so the experiment has paid for itself this month.
@KentuckyPicker I see what you mean about FB Marketplace. So far I haven’t sold a full price item (haven’t been doing it long though) but we do feel it’s valuable for getting rid of random household goods items that we would otherwise send to Goodwill. For some reason people are willing to pay $5 or $10 for stuff we would never be able to sell profitably on Ebay.
@RetroTreasuresWV, we also are in a fixer-upper mode for refinancing. I think the upgrades you do does affect appraisal so we are putting it off a year or two until we can get some major projects done. Good luck to you!
In way with the explosion of online retail, I feel like we really are “back” to catalogue shopping these days!
Umm…. I never print or include a packing slip. Is that a problem?
I’m experiencing the same slowdown. Trying to take this time to list more and get my inventory ready for when it picks up again. When do you all find that sales start returning?
@buytikiselltiki You can set profile settings so basically only your profile picture is available to anyone outside of your friend network.
07/08/2020 at 9:45 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 470: How Would You Start Your Business Today? #79243Jay, I will let you and the other scavengers in on a little secret; the majority of my success on TRR comes from children’s clothes. So far this year I have had no returns on them, and they go much faster than my womenswear. The trick is to look at their accepted brands list (it’s pretty short) and figure out what you can get locally. Although most of it is very high end and out of reach for us plebes, there is a short list of accessible streetwear brands they are accepting. I am able to source certain items from these brands for about $2 a piece, and then flip it for about $10. Not huge profit but a little bread and butter trickle where I do nothing other than look it over and send it in. No listing, no photographing, no shipping, no dealing with customers. They store and handle everything. For me, that is worth my time.
They look over and decide what they want to keep. Most of my stuff has been accepted, but I am picky about what I send in. Items should be basically in NWOT condition. I make about 40% consignment. There is the ability to make up to 60% consignment once you hit a certain number in gross sales. So on an item where I make $11, someone else was willing to pay closer to $30. TRR has the kind of audience that is willing to spend that kind of money, and faster than eBay.
They also accept very high end furniture and home goods, although I’m not sure how that process works.
ETA: No, I do not find my items in thrift stores.

Wow that sounds scary. I think you’re right to trust your instincts. We always stalk Facebook profiles before meeting up too, and would have also backed out of that scenario.

* Items Sold: 4 eBay, 1 TheRealReal
* Total Sales: $80 eBay (gross), $11 TRR (net)
* Highest Sold: $25 (tied for two items, linen pants & organic cotton dress)
* New Inventory: $4
* Items Listed: 2This is my first time documenting my progress. I have a goal to get 100 total items listed by the end of the month, and also hit 3k Fixed Price gross inventory total. I would like to list another $500 worth before October.
June has been crawling for me on eBay, but surprisingly my best or second best month with TheRealReal. For some reason all my kids clothes are flying off the racks there (although yes I only sold 1 this week).
I feel like this is a relatable episode because this is my first year selling on eBay. So I am
I was chuckling at Ryanne talking about selling junk around the house to buy a trailer because that’s more or less what we did this summer! Sold enough through Facebook marketplace to get one.07/05/2020 at 4:15 pm in reply to: eBay international standard delivery VS Global Shipping Program #79089I’m following this as well. To me I don’t understand the benefit; aren’t “surprise” duties a big reason for international returns? I would think that having everything upfront like in GSP would help to set expectations for all parties and reduce returns, but this program is saying the buyer may have additional fees to pay at the receiving end.
06/07/2020 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Hi! And where I talk a bit about ThredUP! and other used clothing platforms #78169You’re welcome, Jay. I know having these avenues has cut down significantly on our purchasing of newly made clothes, which I too agree is a good thing.
