Hello fellow Washingtonian–where in WA are you? There is a lot of competition for goods here, but still plenty of merchandise to be had in spite of that. Welcome aboard.
5 sales in a week is great. I take time to post on the forums when I feel like it, but you don’t need to do that–good tags (these are searchable in etsy’s search machine) and spot on titles (which show up on google) go a long way toward people finding your store. I do maintain 3 pinterest boards, but I’m not sure if these get me sales. I do use etsy’s promoted listing paying .05 per click to a limit of $1.50 a day–this expenditure has worked well for me over the last year and a half. I’ve had 12 sales on etsy this week for a total of $400 so far, so a very good week.

also sold yet another set of bongos–I never pass these up if they are under $10 because they always sell, and fast at around the $30 mark.
what do you sell? what sort of thing sold for $750? it is hard to put your numbers in context when you are being so vague.
her top earner was a shirt so I am guessing clothing, LOL. despite a softening of the market, if you list the right stuff they will buy…

sigh…the ACA is not on a “death spiral” in my state–it is working very well actually. It is not working in states that didn’t extend medicaid (the uninsured poor cost more taxpayer money when they use the emergency rooms for “healthcare” than providing them basic preventative services) and those who didn’t create their own exchanges. all moot I suppose since the new administration is determined to rip health insurance away from 22 million people and let them flounder–back to the pre ACA days when Americans died for lack of coverage and health care costs were skyrocketing, you think that premiums in some states have gone up? just wait until after the ACA is abolished,, especially if you are older, those of us with pre-existing conditions are SOL. I refuse to lie about my religious belief to get in on some Christian based plan. The self employed always seem to get screwed–we pay all our own FICA taxes and now won’t even have basic health insurance as most of us can’t afford it. To top it off, some Republicans are trying to cut social security and medicare benefits…
I’ve made many mistakes over 30 years in the business, don’t let it get you down–there are still plenty of treasures out there that will make up many times for the mistakes. Speaking of which, Will of terminal99 just posted a video this morning where he literally tossed a fake Louis Vuitton briefcase on the fire that he paid $50 for, Will has been buying antiques and collectibles since he was a kid, so even pros get fooled now and again.
I can only comment from a collectibles point of view, but I source about 70% of my merchandise online–I do both live and timed auctions (less often.) I just picked up a big batch of stuff from my local auction house–but I do my bidding online (I usually preview though.) I always take shipping into consideration and look for auction houses that offer in house shipping as opposed to those who use someone like the UPS store which is more expensive, usually there is a “per box” handling fee of typically $5 so if I am buying from an auction across country I only bid on lightweight stuff–although recently I purchased what I thought was a small figurine of a dog that turn out to be big and heavy, I didn’t read the description closely enough, I bought a few other things but shipping was $50 (ouch–but totally my fault.) I will also buy from the 2 local Goodwills who put their stuff up on ebay and pick up from them–I have gotten a few really great things this way because not paying shipping gives me an advantage when I bid. I have literally won an auction online bidding in my PJs, gotten the item in a few days and sold it the same day it was delivered to my door–especially wonderful during cold weather (we might have snow tonight.)
Thank goodness for etsy this Christmas is all I have to say–I have more items than ever on ebay and sales are slow, slow, slow. I have been selling consistently on etsy. I sold a $125 item on etsy this morning in fact.
Is there some sort of spam filter on the forum? maybe my missing LONG post went there, LOL.
