Jay,
That would be my guess. It would be interesting to see stats on stuff like this, but not sure ebay will ever disclose all the stats we’d really be interested in seeing.
Yes. Completely Free.
debit, Sorry, I didn’t realize that was the tone of the post. Personally, I’m a fan of Promoted Listings, and I’ve been waiting for ebay to do this. I’m very happy about it. But not everyone is a fan, and I was just trying to be clear that this is not “opt in”…it’s opt out. AND it takes seven days to be opted out. And these details are NOT found in the announcement itself, you have to read the linked page, and my experience with ebay sellers generally is that many never read announcements much less linked pages.
So, I was just trying to make sure people here understood the details of how this will work.
Again, personally, I’m in favor of it. I intend to use it. Wasn’t trying to suggest people not use it. But it’s an individual choice.
Also, for those who might have had the same question I had, ebay told me (this is not in the announcement or the linked page) that the PL only applies to off ebay placements ebay makes as part of its marketing efforts. So, if I post a link to one of my items (that I have in a PL campaign) to Pinterest, and a buyer clicks through from Pinterest and buys it, it won’t be subject to a PL FVF, because I posted the link, not ebay. Since I also usually use the Ebay Partner Network when posting links to social media, I wanted to be sure of this, since an EPN sale will be free of any FVF.
Yeah, I’m leaning the same way….only time will tell, but I have always said most of my stuff has sufficient margin to handle PL’s FVF, especially when I can choose the FVF rate….so, let ‘er fly….

We’ve become kind of nonchalant about it. We have so much stuff to list, we yard sale because we enjoy it , not because we need inventory. If something sounds especially good, we’ll usually try to get there close to opening time or before, but otherwise, we don’t worry about it. Better half really minds the heat on hot days, so that’s another reason we’ll sometimes go early…if the forecast includes rain or high temps later ion the day, we’ll try to get an early start.
But yeah, we often still find good stuff later in the day. Not everyone is looking for the same things, and we look for a pretty big variety.

And yes, I’d love to read a report about your adventures!
DarlinDils, thanks. I agree, the tactic can definitely give you a competitive edge, and I think for two reasons: 1. Buyers realize the item holds significance for them within their collecting interest. and 2. Buyers realize that the seller is more than a listing machine, the seller is someone who shares their interest in old stuff. I think that helps make a subtle connection between buyer and seller.
Darlin Dils,
I agree…I’ve always found that adding info for things like magazines, etc is well worth the time…my question is, do you put the info in the description only, or do you make custom item specifics as well?
07/02/2021 at 7:33 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89537ebay has said that coupons do “stack” with Markdown Manager…so, be careful when using coupons!
06/23/2021 at 8:50 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89423- Coupon does not apply to auction-style listings, purchases made through Best Offer or Seller Offer features, or any listings in the Real Estate, Motors Vehicles, or Coins & Currency categories.
- The Coupon cannot be combined with any other Coupon, site discount, rebate, promotion, or when paying with PayPal Easy Payments or Gift Cards
I’m not sure if “promotion” above includes things like Markdown Manager sales…we could use some clarification on that. I’ll see what I can find out.
06/23/2021 at 8:40 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89420Yes, I have a little used Facebook page and an even less used Instagram account, but I’m thinking of trying the coded coupon on one of them, probably the Facebook account for now. I’m half expecting some new info on store redesign to come out within the next few days or weeks. ebay has actually hinted that they might have some sort of social media aspect, and we might get reduced fees if a purchaser buys after being sent to ebay from our social media.
Just have to wait and see….
06/23/2021 at 8:21 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89418Oh, should have also mentioned, you can restrict it by category or even item, it doesn’t have to be the entire store.
06/23/2021 at 8:17 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89417Quick? Me? Probably not LOL
I’m still experimenting. At this point, I’m sending 10% off coupons with all my packages that go out. I think my current coupon expires around mid July. The next one I create will probably be for a longer duration. I have a lot of built in wiggle room on my prices. I might also try a different percentage, or different offer. (You can create many different types, such as buy 3, get x off, buy $50 get x off, etc. It doesn’t have to be a flat x% off offer).
In the near future, ebay will be providing a mechanism so we can identify returning buyers (in case we want to thank them with a coupon), and a way to send a coupon at the same time we send an offer (the coupon would be seen only if the buyer doesn’t decline the offer, and would be for future purchases, not for the item we’re sending the offer on) And also a way to send to past buyers (probably by ebay message)
We can currently create a coupon and send it (via email or social media) to anyone we want. We can also post it to Social Media. And you can use it like a Markdown Manager sale, by putting it on your store and making it public. Then anyone shopping ebay can use it.
And you can set limits: how often can one buyer use it? What’s the maximum amount of the discount, etc.
Early indications from ebay itself are that ebay is VERY happy with how it is being used. I expect to see more features as time goes on.
For now, here’s a pretty good explanation, with a link so you can start a “campaign”:

And, if you want to see it in action LOL, this is a link to my current coupon campaign: https://www.ebay.com/sme/my-cottage-books-and-antiques/Extra-10-off/so.html?_soffType=CodedCouponOffer&_soffid=8323164501&_soprvw=1
06/23/2021 at 7:43 am in reply to: ebay Adds Data About Promoted Listing Sales and Sales sold by Offer #89413Jay, I haven’t sent too many out just yet. So far, no sales from the coupons I sent out. I ran a two day Coded Coupon sale on ebay this past weekend (my first “public” coupon), and had a buyer buy 4 items , which is unusual for me, since most of my buyers buy one item at a time.
I’m not expecting tons of sales from the coupon I’m sending with the packing slip. But it is free to set up , and very easy to do. So, like Seller Initiated Offer, I’ll use it and even if my response rate is fairly low, my effort is also.
I also tend to think that even if an item arrives a little late, just the presence of an unexpected coupon might diminish a buyer’s unhappiness about a late arrival.
In short,I see no downside and enough upside to continue using it.
