These were my favorite – though not highest – sales this week:
I bought these vintage shoes at thrift store last summer in Mobile, Alabama when I got my daughter settled into college there for $5.00. Had a lot of watchers and finally took a best offer of $30.00 plus shipping. The buyer purchased them via GSP and was located in the U.K.:

The bottom line is Sultanate Muscat, Oman, the top line looks like a name: something son of Timon – guessing this is a name and address for a shop where the item was made as a souvenir for tourists……
Here is my favorite sale of the week, because I pulled these out of a dumpster! They were listed for over a year because I guess my initial price was too high. I gradually lowered it every month until I hit the magic number of $29.99 plus shipping:

Returns: NoneHow do you figure the COGS for something when you get a whole bag or box for $10? Do you divide the number of the items you bought into the cost, even if some are high ticket items and some are junk?
I feel so dumb! I just realized that I couldn’t find this item in my Ebay solds because it sold on BONANZA! It was a set of 15 vintage books that sold for $64.35 with “free” media mail shipping. The box weighed nearly 31 pounds.
I normally insure any sales over $50 and can easily do a claim if necessary via Ebay. But how can I know if I insured this when I printed my shipping label through Paypal?
My local thrift store is my favorite place to dumpster dive. They chuck things that don’t sell in a month or so because they just don’t have the space, and it is easier to sell things to a national market on Ebay than the local market in the small town where I live.
I also often find things to sell at my local recycling center, which is where I get all of my boxes and packing materials. It amazes me how many people just leave non-recyclable things there because they are too lazy to make a trip to the thrift shop to drop things off.

So, I am still missing my initial inventory investment, but I think my original guesstimate of about $1000 profit seems to be in the ballpark.
Good grief – this is the first time I ever found a category called SOLD and sorted them. I see that have sold 90 items in the past 31 days. On my Ebay Seller Hub it says that I had $2,164.29 in sales over the past 31 days, but this does not take into account what I spent on Shipping, Ebay and Paypal fees, and cost of inventory – so I don’t really know my profit.
I did my own taxes with Turbo Tax last year and it was a nightmare.
Are you saying that you have another spreadsheet separate from GoDaddy where you record every single inventory item that you buy?
I have GoDaddy Bookkeeping too, but I am months behind logging my inventory purchases in. And I don’t feel like it accurately reflects my profit because every time I run an errand and also pick something up at a thrift store, I log my mileage and meals out – which I would be spending anyway – that comes off an expense.
Can you walk me through how you sort your weekly sales on Ebay to get the number of items sold and total? And how do you come up with the cost of your items sold? Do you a make of note somewhere on your listing somehow?
