New items listed: 43This was a week of records for me: 1) Highest $ sales week of the year and most items sold (interestingly highest since the same week last year), 2) Most new listings in a single week this year, 3) longest tail item to sale ever at 6.4 years (a learn to draw Mickey Mouse book for $12.95).
I’m not sure what happened on Friday, but that cha-ching just wouldn’t stop Friday an Saturday with 15 sales over a two day period. That feels like another record for me. I sold a bit of everything. The big sale was an antique Stanley No. 55 combination plane for $749.95. I picked this up at auction back in September for $221. I knew from past experience it would be a good sale so paid up for it.
The coolest sale this week was 25 vintage beer cans that I sold to the Yellowjackets TV show. This one took a bit of coordination as they wanted me to ship it overnight to Vancouver, BC using their Fedex account, which seems to be common for shows. It was an Etsy sale and was confusing trying to figure out how to sell it to them without shipping charges. Etsy is more difficult than eBay in this respect. Finally I just had them pay the shipping and I refunded it. I ran it to the Fedex store Saturday afternoon and looks like it is in Vancouver this morning and out for delivery. I haven’t seen the show but will have to take a look to see what they use the cans for. It was a nice $60 sale.
Two other cool sales were a Flowbee hair cutting system for $119 and an antique brass fireplace cover for $149. I picked both of these up from the same Maxsold auction just a few weeks ago for $7 total.
It is always interesting to see the ebbs and flows of eBay sales.
As an aside, had my first ever case where a buyer opened a request for a refund because the customs duties were too high and they didn’t want to accept the package. This was for a vintage 1950’s leather camera case I’d sold for $30 and shipped to Brazil. He was claiming the customs duties were $40 and the item was only really worth $10. Whatever. I called eBay to confirm I wasn’t on the hook for anything, and they said to just confirm to the buyer that customs duties are the responsibility of the buyer and outside my control. They would close the case in my favor when its time elapsed.
@Craig-Rex – having so many auctions simultaneously must be a nail-biting event. You are constantly shaking things up and taking risks. Though they do seem to be well calculated risks that pay off. Quite impressive. Always enjoy your posts.
@Mark-S – I share your anxiety about leaving stuff aside at estate sales. I’ve had a few occasions where stuff walked off from the “hold” area. Just two weeks ago I had a pile on the hold table with an expensive trailer hitch and it disappeared. It was already a good price and I was getting ready to check out when they lowered everything to 50% off. I walked away to grab a few more things and came back to it missing.

New items listed: 11Below average sales this past week and much lower than this time last year. I’m running about $4000 total below last year at this time. I’ve listed a lot less this year, so I guess it should be expected.
I spent a good portion of the week last week sorting through the auction lots I won the previous week and writing drafts for listings. Hope to get all my drafts listed this week which will be a big week of listings.
@Retro – That is a cool polaroid. What a find for $6. That person lucked out. Never seen one like that before. I keep my eye out for that era of Polaroids as well and have done fairly well with them.
My find of the week, now two weeks ago, was a Franklin Mint Star Trek Enterprise 25th anniversary desk model. I paid $20 at auction for it and see it has sold for as much as $400 in the past year, usually selling for $150+. I was surprised to get it so cheap as Star Trek collectibles are usually a battle at auctions.
@Zach – Great finds on the stereo equipment.@Retro – That’s really a rough time you’re having. Glad your kids are home. Hoping things get better. You are due.
@Ryanne – congratulations on the contest placing. Exciting that all your time investement is paying off. Must be fun.

New items listed: 26Steady but mild sales. Still looking for that xmas bump.
Have started sourcing seriously over the past two weeks and have been busy cleaning, researching, taking pictures and creating listings. Won several auction lots full of good stuff including a mountain of Christmas ornaments that I hope to get posted over the next two weeks. Six storage containers full, so I’m up to my ears in them. Usually Christmas ornaments are Cecile’s thing but she’s too busy with her day job.
It’s only two weeks worth of data, but it seems the tide may be turning on pandemic homebound people driving up the prices at auctions. I won a lot of great items at low prices in4 separate online auctions in the past two weeks. Feels like old times. Now to keep the nose to the grindstone and get everything listed.
@Retro – Sorry to hear your children are not doing well. I hope they are on the mend. Will keep you in our thoughts.
@antiquefrog – hmmm, maybe I’ll send it to Someone at one of the local universities.
@Pikapop – I agree with your assessment. Those tiles are painted to look old. Probably made sometime in the 20th century.
I think he’s wearing armor perhaps like this image:
It is also possible that it was intended to be St. George, though he seems to have only rarely been depicted with wings.
The mounting wood is plywood, so not ancient. Wikipedia says plywood started being used in the late 1800’s, but this doesn’t look that old. I was told that it fell off the wall once and broke into pieces and had to be repaired, so not sure if the backing was changed at that time or not. None of the tiles have signs of damage except those at the top.
