Got it. It’s always possible eBay has some glitch. When we have an error we make sure we havent dont something on our end.
Hopefully this is just a one time problem and not something continual.
That does stink you had an item relisted. We dont have that issue with items being relisted, but we also list directly on eBay and sell only on eBay.
–How many platforms are you selling the same items on?
–What software do you use to interact with eBay?
–Are you selling one of a kind items? Or do you sell multiple quantity listings? Why is eBay automatically relisting things for you if you dont want it to? You can choose to have items end after a certain period and you manually relist.
How are you mangaing your inventory now? Good till Cancelled, or are you relisting as new every 30 days to juice the search?
Welcome Mary. Seems like Houston has gotten super cool since I left after High School in the 90’s. We wouldn’t have thought to go to the Heights back then.
Glad selling online has worked out for you. I know we never thought selling online would have been a full time money making machine.
Hey Andy. Glad you found us. We all started small 🙂
Welcome Mary. I know we also stumbled into selling online and have been surprised that its made us consistent money. Seems almost to good to be true. We can only have this life because so many Americans get rid of valuable items for free.
I remember when I grew up in Houston, the Heights was not a part of town you wanted to go. Makes sense the artists moved in and have made it cool.

Hi!
I’m Mary, a Single Mom and Vintage Dealer, based in Houston, TX. I began selling on Ebay full time in 2016 as a way to support my family and stay home with my son while going through a divorce and some really hard times. That is when I discovered The Scavenger Life Podcast, and have been hooked ever since! (Thank you Jay and Ryanne! You guys have been true life savers.) Since opening an Ebay store, I started renting space in a vintage co op, and also opened a store front that I closed mid March, due to COVID.
My professional background is in art, costuming and fashion design. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts that I earned at The School of Visual Arts, NYC, in 2004.
I’ve always loved collecting vintage, and second hand treasures. A natural born scavenger. I never thought I would end up selling vintage as a full time job, but it all started because of personal hardships, and lack of child care. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to make it, and now I truly love what I do, and feel blessed to be able to share my passion for vintage with the world.
You can shop my collection on Ebay, Etsy, or in person at Retropolis, (Houston’s oldest vintage co op of 18+ years in the Heights), 373 W. 19th St. Houston, TX 77008.
Ah, now the equation changes for me. If you know its worth $1k, I’d hold out for more than $500. But as Steve said, $500 from trash quickly is not a problem.
Yeah, we would definitely sell for $500 of we had it listed for $700. Couldnt accept that deal quick enough.
A “fast nickel” in my mind is selling an item for $10 within a week, instead of waiting for $100 offer. If you’re always churning, then you’re working very very hard.

Welcome Lisa. There has been other scavengers here who have been in a similar situation: caring for a sick loved one and selling to for money/fun. Not sure if any of the regulars around here are in that position.
Does you Mom have good taste as a buying addict?

Other than that, I feel if you have really sought after, expensive item then those are the easiest things to sell on your own. 50% commission is tough.

Do you think you’d make less if you listed those same NWOT high end brands on eBay? Or is the whole point to not have to photograph and list?
Have you tried calling them? Is there a reason why you only want to text chat?
When we call, there’s no issue getting someone to help.
