Good point. Another commenter taught us that it was dumb to get insurance on every item. Because so few packages ever get damaged in transit, we were losing money “being safe”. It’s better to just take a chance and eat the cost of the one damaged package that happens each year.

08/11/2020 at 3:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 475: Spotting Problems, Solving Problems #80576We’re right there with you. Our biggest challenge is finding high dollar items + good margin + WITHOUT spending all day online or in-person scavenging. It’s a tough equation to crack!
08/11/2020 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 475: Spotting Problems, Solving Problems #80571Congrats on retirement. You did it! What kind of truck did you get? Around where I live, guys made quite the judgement based on what brand you drive 🙂
08/11/2020 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 475: Spotting Problems, Solving Problems #80570Although today it jumped to $88.23 in our invoice. No place that breaks it down.
Seam_Store, are you in managed payments and see the invoice amount?
Just google your state name a “reseller license” or “tax exempt”. It’s a process to apply. Once you apply, you dont pay sales tax on items. Different states will have different record keep requirements.
“Hawskbill” is just a common name in the area. The creek, a mountain, etc all share the name.
I love the thrill of the hunt, and making some extra bucks helps pay the bills.
Cool. There’s a whole group of recent retirees that seem to go into online selling instead of stereotypical “playing golf”. Wasn’t sure if US retirement is getting that tough or people just enjoy running businesses on their own.
Ive heard others say that after working for someone else for so long, its nice to make all your own decisions.
I imagine it’ll be several months of these quirks before the separation is complete.
Welcome. Store looks good. I obviously love the variety of items. Sell anything and everything!
Since you’re retired, are you selling more for fun (and extra money)? Or is an online store part of your retirement plan?
Glad you came out to enjoy the area. In the next six months, that coffee shop should be open so you guys could always stop in. Please!
And its important that young people move to these small communities to live. Cant just be investment homes or vacation homes.
Come for the cheap houses. Stay for the community.
Like anything, we just look on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=vintage+wilton+cake+decorating&_dcat=29802&_sacat=29802&vbn_id=7022413241&LH_Sold=1&_fsrp=1&_sop=16
We pass on these things because they don’t sell well or for much money. BUT we’ve sold some that come in box lots at auctions. Everything sells eventually.
