Has anyone else been affected by eBay taking higher than stated final value fees?
I have at least 3 items where eBay took 12.55 percent fee when the stated fee amount is 6.55. The problem is with June 2 and June 3 managed payments transactions for store owners and then only for some categories.
If one must audit each transaction to check on eBay, it really reinforces my lack of trust for them. Mistakes that eBay makes are always in their favor.
Does each affected seller need to contact eBay individually for refunds?

What category only takes 6.55%?

There are numerous categories affected. So the issue is not limited to this category.
For the 6.55%, there are some of the computer categories, under:

Whats the total amount that you think eBay overcharged you?

Probably about $4 spread over 3 items.
Not earth-shaking but we should not have to be checking this stuff at all. It is definitely an error on their part.

Agreed. If its a site-wide issue, eBay will fix it or get hit with a class action. Thankfully there are people who seem to have lots of time to track these issues down.
Personally, I dont have time to spend hours keeping track of these things. Looking over the last several days of our sales, I see no issues.

I noticed because my fees were about double on these three items. Other sellers & categories may not see much difference.
For example, there are many categories with a stated fee of 11.7% for store sellers. If eBay charges 12.55%, this is harder to notice.
I am curious if any other sellers may add to this thread.

Did you call eBay? Seems like a pretty cut&dry mistake on their part if the item is indeed in that specific subcategory.
Let us know what they say.

No, I haven’t called them yet. But I will if they don’t return the funds soon. It seems that the glitch has been corrected since June 4.
This must have affected many sellers. Doesn’t seem right that each one must call to get a individual correction, otherwise eBay keeps the extra fees by default.

I did notice a note from ebay stating “We calculate your fees based on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, shipping and handling costs, sales tax, and any other applicable fees.” For some reason I thought they only charged the final value fee on the actual item price..

About a decade ago, eBay starting charging a FVF on shipping as well because some sellers gamed the system by pricing an item for $1 but $75 shipping. An ingenious way to get around fees.
I dont know if sales tax is now being included in the FVF as well.

@jay:
Update: I contacted eBay via chat. At first, the agent was clueless.
After some research, Agent also said that eBay has a team working to auto-refund others affected by the glitch.
They are supposed to issue my refund within 24 hours.
Also, per eBay website:
The FVF is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale.
The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees. -

I just received a fee fee credits for “billing errors”. I did not contact eBay to make adjustments on these, so it looks like they caught the mistake and are correcting.
