Our vacation plans changed by a couple of days. We will stop by the coffee shop on morning of 6/4. I hope to meet you both! Maybe you can arrange a “Scavenger Meetup” there and others come as well.
03/29/2021 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 507: The Professionalization of Online Selling #87125So in regards to going down in a store subscription in April…which I plan to do as well on my cheerleader uniform store. The eBay rep I spoke to on eBay for Business told me I could do it anytime from now until the end of April and if I see the charge on my next invoice, I need to let eBay know and they will back it out.
Question: Are you going to order supplies first and then go down a level? I’m holding out until April 1st so I can do this.
Great podcast as always. I think I was the first to announce my guess that you were planning on opening a coffee shop back when you announce that you made a very expensive eBay purchase. This was an easy guess knowing commercial roasters cost a lot AND how much you two love coffee. I am looking forward to you opening your newest business…so much so that we plan on visiting on June 2nd…on our way to a Maine camping trip.
@RetroTreasures: I hope it sells well for you! The vintage ones and the competition ones do the best. The best time to sell the is the beginning of football season up through Halloween.
Long time listener but seldom post. My eBay creature story:
22 Year eBay seller here. I started out selling cheerleader uniform and working full time in the school system…both at the same time in 1998. My initial plan was to work in the school until my children were older (about 10 years). Then I got caught up in the “have to have this job for the pay (which increased every year) and benefits. So, I stayed in the rat race. Two years ago I finally quit and crossed over to full time eBay. I have two stores Sunshinecheering…still selling uniforms and Itemsfromthesouth which I sell anything. I truly wish I had made the change over to full time eBay at the 10 year mark like my initial plan was. I am SOO happy to be selling from my home. I truly enjoy my job. I look forward to ScavengerLife every week!
That’s a good point Jay. I have only had 1 item not received case opened this season and it was delivered 4 days after that. Communication with the customer is key in most cases.
08/03/2020 at 8:40 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 474: How Do We Only Sell High Priced Items All The Time? #80300Numbers For July 26 – August 1st:
Total Listings Between 2 Stores: 1450
Number Sold This week: 38
Sales Not Including Shipping: $1,013
Jay and Ryanne:
Responding to your comment about branching out…I started selling cheerleader uniforms in 1999. Soon thereafter, I opened an eBay store (Sunshinecheering). At that time, I was the only person on eBay who had a selection of uniforms so I could get the price I commanded. I also worked full time but eBay generated a really nice income for me. Over the years, other people came on the platform and started selling cheer uniforms. With this expansion, my prices had to come down and I was not selling as many. I wanted to go full time eBay but knew I could not do it by selling just cheerleader uniforms. So, several years ago, I opened another store (ItemsFromTheSouth) and started selling other things. I found your podcast (went back and listened to every one of them) and watched many YouTube videos. I remember in one podcast Ryanne mentioned selling vintage perfume. I found several bottles at an estate sale and SCORE, sold each one for around $100.
Last summer I quit my job and started reselling full time. I’m not quite up to the income I was making as a bookkeeper but OMG the FREEDOM is SO worth it! Selling full time is a dream come true and I could not have done it if I had not become a trash elf !

07/26/2020 at 9:11 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 472: Biggest Sale, Biggest Scavenge #79959Congratulations on your biggest sale ever! Way to go for knowing your price and sticking with it Ryanne!
I ordered my coffee today…first order. I got the Brazilian. I could not see where to tell them Scavenger Life sent me but I did put in the coupon code.
I love a good country auction. The auctions in the cities bring too high of prices! Glad you guys got to go to another one and I hope you find a treasure or two in a box lot!
I believe it was last week and I also believe it was SeamStore who posted him numbers for the year. I’m ready to work on my taxes and went back to find the thread so I could write down the categories for tax deductions…I thought he did an incredible job on the breakdown. Even though I have searched all the threads for the last 3 weeks, I cannot find it. I’m sure I did not imagine it.
Does anyone know where that thread is or have a good breakdown of categories for expenses?
Thanks so much!
12/15/2019 at 4:02 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 441: How Do I Go From Rookie to Veteran Scavenger? #71672Hi Jay and Ryanne:
I just finished listening…I like it when your podcasts come out Sunday afternoon. I am another one of those sellers who left the full time rat race to sell online full time. Although I have sold on eBay for 21 years, my dream was always to do this full time. I was able to do that in July. My numbers were good this week:
eBay store 1:
1,000 items. Sold 34 things for $922
eBay store 2:
260 items. Sold 7 things for $183
Poshmark
Sold 6 items for $189
I do charge shipping on most items.I wanted to bring up a question for the group. I see some sellers put a lot of detail about wanting to make their customers happy. They say something like this… “If you are not satisfied with the product or service, please contact me and don’t give us negative or natural feedback. I will do everything I can to make you happy with your purchase”.
My question is, do you think this gives an open invitation to scammers requesting to get a partial or full unwarranted refund?
Would love to hear what people think.11/25/2019 at 8:35 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Boomboxes, Jean jacket, Sound Shaper EQ, Christmas ornaments #71023Thank you Steve for your “What Sold” videos. I catch them every week.
SIMON – I also think J&R’s expensive piece of equipment has to do with coffee. Jay says they want to invest in the town and do things that are fun…I’m guessing they are going to open a coffee shop. Any other guesses? Coffee shop naming would be fun!
Congrats Mallybills! That is exciting to have your best week ever! May your online selling continue to grow!
