I got a negative removed.
I received my first negative and was very surprised. The buyer received a NEW in box collectible puzzle that was wrapped in plastic. To ship it I wrapped it in thick brown paper. Apparently the buyer thought the box should have been in another box and left a negative feedback saying that. I emailed her asking if there was any damage to the box but she never answered.
I looked up this buyers “feedback left for others”. She leaves 50% negatives! I contacted eBay and asked them to look into this. They asked me to send a feedback revision and if she did not respond within a week to call them back. I did this and again, no response. I called eBay a 6 days later and they removed it. The eBay rep said she did not have good feedback behavior. So in short, if you receive a negative, check out what kind of feedback they leave for others.
ItemsfromthesouthJay I wanted to get on here and say so much but all of it has been said by other fans of the podcast! So, all I’m going to say is Thank You for being YOU! Thank You for sharing information about stuttering. I have listened to all of your podcasts and have never been bothered by the occasional stutter. You and Ryanne have so many people who look up to you for the knowledge you share…and this is yet another subject you have knowledge in that you shared. Thank you to both of you!
Living in Florida, yardsales are ALL year long so that is my main scavenging area. After 25 years of full time employment, my last day is next Thursday at which time I go full time re-selling. I am excited about being able to go to Estate Sales on Thursday and Fridays (which I have never been able to do before). For 20 years, I only sold cheerleader uniforms on eBay and did fairly well…especially around Halloween. Knowing I could stop working full time if I could get into another niche, I started researching and listening to your podcast. I decided to sell anything and everything for 1 year, keep good records and see if I could make the plunge. So from January 2018 to December 2018 I sold over $15K worth just in my second store. This is on top of having my cheer uniform store and a full time job. I went back to work in January and gave my 6 month notice (I am a bookkeeper in a school and wanted to finish out the year).
I KNOW this will work and I wish I had done this 2 or 3 years ago!
I love how everyone posts their numbers here and shares their experiences!
CHEERS!Great job Ashley and Ryanne! So glad Shampoo and Booze is back! I wish you be best on your new business adventure…I think it’s a great one!
I wish eBay would not call it “Best Offer”. I think it makes the buyer think you will accept a lower offer because it is your only offer. $5 may be the “Best Offer” received on a $60 item but I’m not going to accept it. They should just call it “Make Offer”.
T-Satt,
That sounds about right. I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath rental house that I rent out for $1100 a month. It is located in a small town an hour away from me…which is not a tourist area. It is very little work as it is always rented.
The short term rental will be a lot of work but it is right next door and the income will be much greater so it will be worth the work.We live in a year around tourist area…outside of city limits…so less regulations. Just 20 minutes from Destin, Florida and the sugar white beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. A boat ride from our dock to the famous Crab Island is only 35 minutes. I honestly believe a short term rental will do very well.
There are a ton of awesome thrift stores around this area as well!Jay and Ryanne:
I listened to every podcast and it gave me a wonderful idea my husband agreed with and we have started the project.
5 years ago we purchased two lots by foreclosure so we got a really good deal. It took 2 years to build the home which we have now lived in for 3 years. Because I listened to Shampoo & Booze, I decided to ask my husband what he thought about purchasing the lot next door (which happened to be waterfront on a quiet bay) and putting a dock on it that we could use and then building a small cabin and renting it out as an AirB&B “Bring Your Boat” and enjoy the beautiful Florida waters. He agreed!
We are currently in the process of building the dock so that is 2019’s project. The “cabin” will be a 2 year project that we will start in 2020.
I will have plenty of questions for you guys on this topic once we start on the house!
Thank you so much for all you do!05/16/2019 at 3:34 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Ferrari drawing, Bread drawer liner, Navy trucker hat, Old perfume, Lamps, 70’s Panasonic Stereo #62019I like the way you wind your power cords. I’m going to have to google it to see if I can figure out how to wrap mine like that!
Whew, I was worried about you two! So glad to here you guys are okay!
I accept 30 day returns but not free return and I do charge for shipping most of the time. I have free shipping on very lightweight items.. under 8 oz. My question to sellers who offer free returns, do you really think it is worth it?
Do you feel your sales increased enough to make up for the cost of the returns? Has anyone been able to track this since they started free returns?
I am asking this not because I am thinking about accepting free returns…I’m just curious.4/14 – 4/19
total items in 2 eBay stores: 910
Gross Sales $617.56
COS 108
24 Sales
ASP $25.74
I have been selling on eBay part time for 21 years. I will be quitting my job in June and at that time, I will have been prepping to go full time for 1.5 years…building up my inventory to hopefully over 1500 items.
As for your comment on slower sales… I believe the many other platforms that have appeared are taking some sales away from eBay. I remember whenever eBay made a big change the eBay forums were on fire about leaving and selling on another site. The problem was back then…there were no other “popular” sites that had enough buyers on it. I think Poshmark and Macari are taking some (although small in eBay standards) sales away from eBay. Once I become a full time seller I will try out those 2 platforms as well.Libby (and others who do some consignment):
I’m wondering what others charge for commissions on consignments.
Mine are:
50/50 -$2.00 per item form Up to – $499
65/35 for items $500 and up (I get the $35%)Are we in the same ballpark? My husband tells me I should be getting 50/50 no matter what.
03/11/2019 at 12:51 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 402: Can You Build An eBay Business On Repeat Buyers? #58469Were you buying cheerleading outfits wholesale and just re-selling
I buy them in bulk and resell them one at a time. My initial idea was to buy a whole team lot and resell them as a team lot but people were asking me if they could just buy one so I had to revamp my idea and buy in bulk and sell individually which in the long run was more profitable. My ebay name is Cheerleaderuniforms and my store name is Sunshinecheering if you want to take a look.
03/11/2019 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 402: Can You Build An eBay Business On Repeat Buyers? #58456Hi Fellow Sellers:
In regards to a niche market and repeat buyers, I have an example. 21 years ago, I started selling cheerleading uniform on ebay. Since I was the first to corner the market and have a store filled with up to 250 cheerleader uniforms, I was doing pretty well. I had about 20% of repeat sales and my store was very well known in the cheer community. As years went by, others started selling uniforms and the prices went down. Now my repeat buyers are only about 3-5%.
Several years ago, I opened another ebay store and started selling everything I thought would sell well. I don’t believe I have had any repeat buyers on this store but I will say, this store has outgrown my sales in my cheerleading uniform store.
I work a full time job and list in both stores when I can, because I can see the potential in my second store, I put in a resignation at my school job. I will be going full time eBay in June.
So, in short…unless you really have a really good niche, you cannot count on return customers as a large part of sales in your store. And if you do have that niche, others will jump on the bandwagon and sell the same thing. -
