Thanks Sonia… I second this – if anyone has experience with a $50+ USPS insurance claim and is TRS and didn’t check the box – please speak up!
Thanks again, Sharyn!
I’ve heard of a pocket dial but a pocket buy is a very first, LOL!
Hi Sharyn, Well, thank you very much – this is news to me… On the shipping page, I always thought you had to specifically request the insurance (because you can only see it as a line item when you “ADD” it.. I assumed if you didn’t see it added, then it wasn’t an automatic thing.) Thank you for verifying that you have been refunded through USPS without checking the box. Are you TRS? Did you get the full $100 value without explicitly adding it? I am not sure how USPS would know that one is TRS and qualifies for $100 without taking the extra step – that is what concerns me. Thank you so much for your help. 🙂
Hi Terri,
Yes, I am under the impression that you have to physically check the box to get it (that’s why I wish eBay would make USPS the default, I use it 99.99% of the time and I just forego insurance for first class or parcel items.) – I have never had to file an insurance claim either way, but the few times I have sent larger orders over $100, I either just go with $100 USPS and only a few times have I paid extra for Shipsaver for a really valuable item. Anyway, make sure you check the box to get your free USPS insurance when shipping priority.
🙂Ryanne, “i want my $2!!!!”
LOL, that is so funny…brings back the memories. That can be the new automatic feedback for our customer when a UPI case is opened, LOL!I have thought this same exact thing – The “unpredictability” of receiving the next email is what keeps you checking your email all day – and psychologists have talked about the addictive nature of it (like a casino slot machine). I think eBay is the same way. I don’t think I will EVER get bored of the CHA-CHING. You never know exactly when it is coming – but it will eventually come – especially if you are listing. I’m always chasing my next sale – of course that is what keeps us going on here, right? So, yeah eBay has a slot machine element to it, but it is also a numbers game that offers predictable income with consistent effort going in.. so yes and also no… there ya go a pondering again crazy luftmentsh 😉
Almasty, I think you should start a thread or category… “Full Time Sellers Lounge” or something to that effect on here where you can dialogue freely about the concerns you have with your business without getting dragged into “analysis paralysis”. I enjoy reading people’s experiences and thoughts who have successfully done this full time and long term, like Jay and Ryanne. It is very inspiring and you have much to offer.. and of course, burn out is very real for anyone in the business as long as you have been. It is hard for me to hit my goal of listing 5 items a day, let alone mega-listing everyday of the week to maintain 9000+ items – that is amazing to me! Ebay is hard work – and can be so frustrating, and so much fun at the same time. I do feel like I am working eBay full time for only part time pay – (even though I am ‘small potatoes’ right now) I think about it all day everyday and it permeates all aspects of my life always – so I can only imagine what is going on in your world on a daily basis!
Hi Terri,
Shipsaver is probably “better” – but I like to take advantage of the free USPS insurance, so I always have to switch it manually.Oh no… This morning… it has reverted back to the original way – Shipsaver is back to the default again and I have to manually click over to Priority. What is going on? This changed within the last 12 hours… I should have just kept quiet. Sorry Everyone! Bummer!!
MyCottage,
Yes, well we will all find out soon enough and it will be interesting. We knew this was coming down the pike… I like the idea of not having to do any extra “work” – let ebay assign everything. Maybe grouping vintage like items isn’t a horrible idea.. who knows? We’ll talk about it here I am sure 🙂I have been finding the Marketing Tab -> Promoted Listings (# of Clicks) dashboard metric interesting because I’ve been running heavy on my promoted listings. I can verify that the more I promote, the more extra “clicks” (and sales) I am getting.
To use my store for example, these dashboard metrics are telling me that for every 237 “clicks” on a promoted listing I average 1 sale. I average almost 300 clicks a day from paying for promoted listings. This costs me an average of $2.2 per sale (and my ASP hovers between $20 and $30) – so I’ll continue with the promoted listings at this time – the payoff is worth it.
MyCottage,
I see your point and perhaps we’ll end up loving it, but to answer your question:1. I don’t see eBay’s attempt to assign a number to every new listing an advantage to what most of us here are doing. Take for a hypothetical example, a vintage First Edition print of an Alcoholics Anonymous Book or a pair of 1950’s pair of Vintage Florsheim Imperial Shell Cordovans. Are these rare items going to be assigned a “number” which will compare them to an object that you can find on a shelf at a store at the mall?
2. What happens when we leave the ePID field blank after eBay attempts to assign a number, as you say, “and, eventually, that’s probably going to mean ensuring it gets seen at all”… Bottom line is will it help sales, hurt sales or not impact them at all? I don’t see it helping.
3. I have a twisted sense of humor, and that is just what popped into my head as I was listing last night at midnight staring at that empty ePID field. 😉
Does anyone else think the ePID is stuPID ?
Hi T-Satt,
Thank you for answering my question regarding STR. Now it has “clicked” with extrapolating a weekly number into monthly terms, which I wasn’t doing and that is why the numbers weren’t “making sense”, but now they do. -
