I’m closing my EBay store early. Two years ago I got stung on a Fed Ex package. EBay allowed the buyer to pay the regular rate, but I had to go into the store and pay crazy express/holiday/overnight? shipping as EBay would not allow me to print a normal label. It was a husband buying a gift so I ate the profit and told him to pay it forward. Now I always shut down until the 24th. Not worth it at my level of sales.
I’m getting an F on both of these Es right now. But 2021 is coming!
11/21/2020 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Anyone else get a Ebay shipping supplies coupon since the bonus one in July? #83594Thank you so much. I almost forgot to use my coupon. Google Ebay Subscriber Discounts and you should be able to find yours. Need to check the box next to the code at checkout with the cart.
He is applying early action (not binding), not early decision mainly because he didn’t have a firm favorite, we want to compare merit aid offers, and we haven’t been able to travel to MA yet. Yes, used to be SO much easier. Some of the extra essays these kids have to write are ridiculously insightful for a 17 year old kid and certainly burdensome when you are applying to this many schools. The colleges want their yield rate high so they are trying with the essays to figure out if you will really come.
Thanks Jay! It was a pretty simple process in the ’80s for me but I ended up undermatching. Fun socially and it all worked out, but I’d like to help choose a better path for my son. Long process. Will be super grateful in December when all apps are done.
Thanks Simon! Thanks for sharing and I’m glad it worked out so well for your D. I’m nervous about the UCs holistic admissions process but he will apply to 5 campuses. It’s a bit exhausting applying to so many schools but he should have some good choices at the end and if we are lucky some merit. We are leaning private but who knows? Partly because hasn’t really found a solid favorite and also because of all of the uncertainty, the plan is to apply heavily. I’m a terrible parent in the sense that emotionally I ride all of their highs and lows with them.
Congrats @annaesthetic23 on publishing your book!
Enjoyed the podcast and the Star Trek philosophy session. Whatever happens I’m hoping there is more unity and protection going forward, and maybe more Ebay sales too! Sales were dismal this week – just had a couple – but I can blame myself since I’ve not been listing for so long.
As of yesterday, son has 7 early college apps in, with acceptance from 2 of those toward the bottom of his list. There are 3 more due this month, but some of the work is done on those. It’s quite a marathon but I’m feeling a bit less distracted this week and relieved that he is over the hump at least in this crazy process.
My Broad Porch coffee arrived quickly and I look forward to trying that. See now that Amazon set me up to buy a refurbished pot, so I need to keep a better eye on them when ordering. I got free shipping on a big work item, so I joined Prime in the spring and I have to say it is super convenient and I will probably order enough stuff and movies to make it wash on the fee. I’m sure I’m paying a bit more here and there for Prime items but I do like to be able to shoot an order and get it off my mind without worrying about combined shipping. My husband has become a big Poshmark fan. He found a less famous but higher quality brand of clothing he likes and says he’s been getting good deals around the $15 mark. Surprisingly, he kind of liked the idea of the little notes the sellers put in there.
Have a safe and peaceful week out there trash elves.
I bought the new Bonavita but can’t bring myself to splurge on the Breville. We love coffee but the drip will be an upgrade to what we are doing now. Looking forward!

Number of items listed this week: 3Low dollar week and I have to admit to being unproductive and snacking and napping to much. Absorbed with the college stuff and not listing. My son got an awesome score on the ACT after he finally got a shot at it, so some relief there. I think I should take a break from the news and buyers might be lying low because of the election?
I jumped on the Broad Porch coffee train and ordered some along with the coffee maker you recommended on the forum Ryanne. We’ve been using a Keurig for a little while since I needed to limit my caffeine intake but I decided to upgrade. Maybe going back to drip coffee will give me the boost I need!
Thank you @Temudgin. I’ll spare her until we find out around December if he got in first. But, I’d love to email with you. I’ll shoot you a message at gmail soon.
As his mom, of course I can say I told you so when he complains about the weather. But, if he learns to dress for it, then in theory he will like the cold vs the heat. The weather here is an eternal mild summer day. All of the plants seem really dry since the drought. I think he will enjoy the seasons on one level.
I had heard that Boston people can be rude, so trying to get a read on that. Thanks everyone for your input. It’s a big deal to think about sending your kid to live somewhere you haven’t been before.
Ryanne since you have lived here in California also, how would you compare the culture? Are people in MA generally friendly, willing to help out a stranger or more polite but closed off like Seattle? Here in Cali it seems like people are kind of wary of being asked for something so we kind of ignore each other. You know, just generally speaking of course.
Thanks Scavengers! He is starting Fall 2021. We are also tossing around the honors college at UV, but that’s even more weather. His favorite weather is Seattle – just cool and drizzly, but we just didn’t find the right fit school up there.
I’m on a forum with other ’21 parents and at first everybody just assumed it would be more or less controlled by their kids’ freshman year. Reality is setting in now. We are asking him to apply broadly and then in spring we will sort it all out. Schools will learn from this year but not all of them will master and invest in good testing and tracing if still needed.
@Sharyn I hope she is managing to enjoy the gap year. 🙂 Our CA State colleges already announced over a month ago that they are online in the spring. I really want a residential experience for my guy as a freshman. It’s kind of the dream.Does anyone know how MA is handling the virus? My impression is that it’s pretty conservative. The objective may end up being to get out of the total shutdown areas of the West into a school that is heavily and wisely testing and at least hybrid.
Applying early to UMass Amherst and WPI. Considering BC (quite a reach), Williams and Tufts (a reach).
He hates being hot but isn’t experienced with snow. He’s a big nature guy so I imagine that he will like it but it will be an adjustment for sure. Originally we had MN, WI, etc. on the list, so MA is better weather-wise than that I guess. It would be nice if we could have visited in the winter but obviously that’s not happening. It’s a tough time to be applying.

Number of items listed this week: 0Thanks for the podcast. This week I listened to it while I waited for my teen and her friend to take selfies at the pumpkin patch. LOL. So much for listing while you listen.
@Simon, congrats on your early retirement. I can’t wait to see how you ramp up Ebay even more. It’s been impressive and you always have been really organized with your numbers.I’ve been alerted by the day job that it will be a busy week. Between that and obsessing about my son’s college app and search, Ebay is just really on the back burner. Mercari is super dead, everything is pretty much listed for their minimum $9 now and once and a while an items sells. Sometimes someone will ask me for a break on the $9 and I’m like it’s not even worth the effort to get up and pack it! Since Mercari’s shipping went up, it’s a bummer for my typical 1-2 pound items. Have a good week!
