Number of items listed this week: 45It was nice to list on Ebay and sales were good for new items and some vintage wall art. My new items usually do well in January and then in quiets down in February in a regular year.
Thanks to Jay for mentioning Dr. Campbell’s Covid Youtube videos before on the podcast. I’m concerned about the variant so I started listening again recently and oof – he predicts a possible wave of the more infectious variant(s). Our numbers here are trending down and the governor relaxed the restrictions a bit allowing outdoor dining, hotels, and haircuts. Might take advantage a little bit before it goes downhill again.
My dad got his first vaccine dose though the hospital, which is doing way better than the County Health’s dismal performance. For older people, it takes longer for their bodies to learn from the vaccine but he should be able to hang out with us again here in about 3 weeks. For my husband he is already in it 2 weeks and should be protected.
Hope to see photos of the new place soon. Your coffee is great. It was a pretty dull weekend and I looked forward to the podcast while I listed.

Number of items listed this week: 31Thanks for the podcast. Your old “Equation” episode was my all time favorite. As a new and used seller, I enjoy both the faster listing on the new end and the cool vintage stuff with low COGS on the other end. I will not enjoy listing all of my death piles though as my standards have changed over the last 4 years. Got back into listing this week and hope things continue. There are some changes in my day job that may result in more of that work after this month but in the meantime I’ve been enjoying listing again. I hope you share pics when you have the shop all set up. Have a great week!
I listed 31. Getting back into the Ebay mood.
@mycottage @temudgin Thank you both!
15 for me. Working on a box of death pile bookends. Feels kinda slow listing these…
Great job Julie.

Number of items listed this week: About 15 on Mercari (ours)Sitting down to list and thought I would throw my numbers out there. Today I’m doing some online RA. The retailer was pretty stingy over the Fall/Winter with sales, but a lot of items were cut loose early this morning. Some of the orders might end up getting canceled but a pretty good haul of reliable sellers and free shipping.
Now, back to the death piles. All of my son’s college apps are done! and it’s quiet while we wait for more answers. I will need to start on my COGS and other bookkeeping. I use Easy Auction Tracker which I like, but I *#@$%! forgot to load the numbers for one month on time. So annoying that Ebay doesn’t keep more than 90 days. February has historically been my worst month of sales but maybe this year will be different.
Our community has been doing relatively well with Covid until quite recently. We are only 1.5 hours from LA, so it’s concerning even though supposedly hotel and restaurant tourism is fully shut down. The locals are pretty good about staying home and wearing masks compared to other communities so I am hopeful that it’s just a holiday spike that will trend down, unless we get what my son calls “Super Covid” up here. My husband and his coworkers get their second vaccine dose tomorrow. Stay safe everyone!
I have to say that the events of last week really affected me and I was doom-scrolling too much and not working basically. All of the political and social media stuff was really distracting for my older teen this semester as well. I feel better today and hope the month finishes without more violence. Fingers crossed.
Happy New Year. I’d like to be in but with the understanding that you’ll just enter zero for me if I don’t post numbers. My goal is 10 a week. In theory will be more time for Ebay early this year. Thanks!
We are under lockdown and I’ve not been sourcing at all but over the last few years, it has become much, much easier to walk out of a store empty handed, more quickly, and to pass over under $30 items. Also I remember to some degree the very longest tail items I have stocked. So, a few years of sales experience is so helpful in being able to avoid picking up lower dollar, longer tail items. I don’t feel the same urgency to buy anything that I know I can sell for a profit and I’ve become quite picky. Thank goodness as I am not a power lister it seems.
Well a dismal week with 3 small Ebay sales plus one on Mercari. Mercari did change their shipping input up to make it easier again if you choose suggested weight. Not sure if they are still at high rates though. I listed some of my family’s better clothing there and took a run to the thrift store before the end of the year. I turned Ebay back on on the 24th as usual.
A lot of distraction in 2020 but it looks like I sold about as much gross as the year before surprisingly. The first stimulus checks were a good time for sales, but I’ve had a poor listing year. I still love selling on Ebay but have lost some momentum in 2020. Hope to get it back in 2021. Also looking forward to Ebay simplifying the app based listing. If I can do it completely on my new phone I will make more progress on the death piles.
It was a wonderful buzz to go back to drip coffee and I love the roomy BP hoodie.

Number of items listed this week: 1Enjoyed the podcast. I think you should keep your ideas flexible about food options. Start with the easy no brainers like pastries, sandwiches, fresh fruit, power bars, chips etc. and see what kind of clientele you are getting and at what time of day. My favorite coffee shop here has the best avocado toast on rustic bread. I could eat that every day. If you can manage, oatmeal with toppings and egg options are nice to have. They do not serve chili dogs. But maybe you’ll discover that locals and tourists will like to have more grab and go lunch options? I like to grab a coffee and a lunch to take to the office during normal times. Also I was thinking unlike your other businesses you may experience lulls in the day when you can catch up on some tasks while at the business. Anyway, good luck. There is every indication that things will turn out great! One last coffee shop thought – you probably have super cool branded mugs coming out but one of our local breakfast places uses random coffee mugs from the thrift store. It’s kind of fun to check them out at the table and see what you get.
I had pretty good Ebay sales last week. I usually have a few ladies who purchase new items after Christmas either with money gifts or because they ran into them on the web while looking for bargains. February is usually the worst month for me.
It’s a bit of groundhog day here but we finally got some rain and are wrapping up the last of the college apps this week. Happy that will be over and done with. I was forced to recycle a bunch of boxes and discard perfectly good packing material to make room in the garage for my husband’s new pull up bar. A bit painful. 2019-20 I did make some progress on the death piles and some of that is slowing selling off. There’s nothing on the floor of the garage anymore – yeah! I hope to get the remainder down by half in in the next year.
I was happy to read in the news that Ebay will continue to address the relative difficulty of listing and try to better synch the app and the site. Also read they will focus more on used items as their niche. Finally moving in the right direction IMHO investing in tech and moving away from trying to compete with Amazon.
Happy New Year!

Number of items listed this week: 0Happy holidays everyone! I bought a comfy oversized Broad Porch Coffee hoodie today. I still haven’t tried the coffee. I mistakenly bought a used Bonavita pot on Amazon that I returned and then got a great deal on Thanksgiving for a brand new one. Tomorrow I open the bags. I’m never going back to dressing up for the office.
Sales were slow, but I had 10 day handling on, which I switched to 7 day today. I think they were all sales to men who didn’t read the delivery date and bought the items as gifts, so I really hope they arrive before xmas.
Thanks for the podcast during the dreadful 2020. I look forward to 2021 and hope your success continues in the new year.
P.S. re browsers, what do people recommend? We have Microsoft for now, having taken Google Chrome off at the request of a geek squad helper. I can’t use some websites on Explorer. Thanks!

Number of items listed this week: 0Happy holidays trash elves. My little Ebay Store is greatly neglected but I had some nice sales last week. We are about to emerge from college application land after this month. My day job has been very busy lately too. Kids are stressed in their own ways. I haven’t listed in weeks.
My son was accepted to 5/5 colleges so far. He has a lot of apps in and just a few more reach school apps to send during break. We still hope to travel in April to MA/NH/VT. Fingers crossed. My daughter made the high school musical (which they will try to perform in May somehow.) We are a looong way from that now, with a huge Cali shut down. Hopefully our numbers will trend back down and people won’t travel or mix much.
I should be able to do a bit more Ebay starting in the new year as I anticipate my day job will slow down and I won’t be as fatigued by sitting at the computer desk at home. It was tough as for the first time I bought a few seasonal items and then didn’t even get them listed before the holiday event. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and wonderful holiday at home.
Thank you! I think it is a browser issue. I don’t understand all this browser stuff. Microsoft seems to be at war with Google or something…
I’m closing my EBay store early. Two years ago I got stung on a Fed Ex package. EBay allowed the buyer to pay the regular rate, but I had to go into the store and pay crazy express/holiday/overnight? shipping as EBay would not allow me to print a normal label. It was a husband buying a gift so I ate the profit and told him to pay it forward. Now I always shut down until the 24th. Not worth it at my level of sales.
I’m getting an F on both of these Es right now. But 2021 is coming!
