@ Steve Schultz and Linda Shields:
Thanks for sharing your paper ephemera sales. Just opened my 3rd store this week and it will be dedicated to post cards, paper ephemera and tiny objects. Want one store that we can take with us on our travels and ship as we go. Love seeing that others are having great sales with vintage paper goods.12/01/2016 at 8:49 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Inaugural invite, trigger finger mittens, back saw, expanding file #6972Thanks for sharing that album!! I would never had thought to price it that high. GOOD FOR YOU!!
11/30/2016 at 6:23 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 286: Black Friday, Just Another Day on eBay #6873PAM! What great sales on the broken items. I bet you were on a sellers high when they sold!!
11/30/2016 at 6:21 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 286: Black Friday, Just Another Day on eBay #6872I have always encouraged the people who list for me to start their own ebay store. It’s the spirit of sharing. Just like Jay and Ryanne do here. However, that being said, most people won’t follow through with starting their own. I think ebay sellers are a special breed:)
11/30/2016 at 6:18 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 286: Black Friday, Just Another Day on eBay #6871I agree. We live in a small community. I know and trust the people that have listed for me. I also get emails everytime something happens on Paypal and ebay. I like to think that 99.5% of the people in this world are trustworthy and good. Will I get burned? Maybe…but until then I’m taking the easy route:)
Oh Jennifer! You have a great sense of humor!!!! I loved reading your bio. I think we are kindred spirits:)
Teaching your children a good strong work ethic at a young age is so important. Good for you Michael D. for following through!
Yes, this is what I do also. BUT, I do put my store in vacation mode AND I change my handling time on each listing using the bulk editing tool. I use the vacation mode that puts a header at the top of my listings indicating we are on vacation and have an extended handling time (I believe it’s the first box you need to check on the vacation mode setting page). My listings are still active and available to buyers.
I also message each buyer after payment to remind them of the extended handling time.
A usual message would be something like this:
“Thanks so much for buying our item! We just wanted to make sure you noticed we’ve put our store in vacation mode and headed to Georgia to spend time with the grand-kids. Your package will be shipped as soon as we arrive home on October 31st. If this extended handling time won’t work for you, let us know and we can cancel the transaction. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding:)”Be sure to set a buffer shipping date. It takes time to get home and ship out 40 or 50 packages.
I use business policies in one of my stores and all you need to do is edit each shipping policy you have by changing the handling time. I have three shipping policies, so I edit each of them.
NOTE: only business days (Mon.-Friday) count in handling time. So a four week vacation would only require your handling time to be set at 20 days.

@stuff my mom threw away: I wish I could give you some super advice on completed needlework, but truthfully I fly by the seat of my pants and instinct. I will usually pick it up if it’s around 2.00. Take it out of the frame most times unless it’s a great framing job. A few years ago I read about a seller who sold only kits and completed work…Cindy, her ebay id is Bubbacandance. Check out her store. I just started picking them up after that. I will go weeks without selling any and then they will sell like hotcakes. Definitely a long tail item. I was so please when the same buyer purchased 5 of my needlework items last week…that was a first for me!! Hope that helps a little.

I am always amazed at how well the vintage electronics sell! So happy for you:)
October Sales Report came in this morning and no wonder it felt like a slow month! Our sales were down about 25% from the summer months. We did do some traveling for 3 weeks in October but left our store turned on with extended handling time. Funny thing, two of the three weeks of travel is when we had our highest sales for the month. Hopefully our sales will increase in December but I am seeing the same numbers for November. I’m going to blame it on the election ruckus. LOL…but then again, some have had terrific sales the past few weeks…and I’m thankful they posted their numbers! Makes me feel a lot better knowing that sales are NOT down across the board.
