Wow, y’all were quick this week! 😉
Yay! I got a point!
ChristineR, do you find that selling stuff on FB works for you? I put large, unwieldy items up occasionally, but hadn’t thought about stuff like pyrex.
Sharyn, I wonder if you can sell the uniform now that you’ve scavenged off it. Like as a “for parts or costume dress up”? An outfit for Halloween? I didn’t actually know you couldn’t sell a police uniform. I see military stuff all the time, why are cop items different?
You and I have very similar sized stores. You note that you listed zero items last week (month?) I’ve noticed that when I list, I sell. If I don’t list, my store drops off to almost nothing, and that has been mentioned by a few people who have experienced the same. Join the Trash Elf Twins Challenge if you want some motivation to list. We’re a fun group of folks just trying to motivate ourselves to list and not let our stock turn into Death Piles. Our motto is Just List, Dammit! 😀
It’s very difficult not to become discouraged when things go badly, but someone on this forum compared eBay to a slot machine, and it’s a brilliant analogy. Keep putting stuff in, and eventually the bells ring and there’s a satisfying cha-ching!
07/30/2018 at 11:49 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #46413LOL. Yes, we did actually unpack between moves. Crazy, I know. But I’ve become an incredible packer and it’s an effective way of not having a huge haul of clutter in your home!
I was a military brat, so we moved every couple years. I kinda got a bad case of itchy feet from that and, when I left home, wandered a bit, moving house every time a six-month lease came to an end, sometimes just to another suburb, other times to a complete new city. Then I married a Marine and it was back to the every couple years stuff. The last time I actually sat down and counted up the moves I remember, about 10 years ago, I’d moved house a total of 52 times. I’ve lived in 4 different countries since then, and moved in 2015 to this new place. As we’ve actually bought it, I’m hoping we stay, but I’m struggling with a bit of wanderlust. I’ve threatened the hubs with selling the house and buying an RV and becoming a permanent transient, only without needing to pack boxes! 😀

We’re now in what I fondly call “our forever home” after moving in excess of 6 dozen times in my life. I kid you not!
I’ve added your numbers for last week to the schedule. If you don’t post again before Tuesday I’ll put in you in for zero for this week… with commiseration!
I’m posting early as I’m done listing for this week. I did a bunch of relists, moving all my remaining GTC over to 30 days and cursing eBay for my lost photos. I’ve got 5 listings left where I need to find the photos or do new ones.
New listings added up to only 20, but seeing as I’ve had a spate of zeroes for the past few weeks, I’m happy with that number. I’m planning to list daily now going forward, I’ve created a new photo set up to allow me to post linens and bedding, ahead of new school year moves, and it’s working out for flat clothes photos as well, so I’m thrilled and motivated to clear my clothing Death Piles. Everything I’m listing at the moment is DP. I’ve totally stopped buying until I clear old stock.
I’ve been selling since late 2015, had about half a dozen returns in that time. I turned on Free Returns and got 4 returns within 10 days. I maintain that eBay is teaching the public a return mindset.
Jay, I’m a List and Attend, having moved across from List and Forget earlier this year. This page is the Bulk Relist page and it pops up with these little “i” buttons for listings that need more attention (like it only has one photo now that eBay’s Monster has swallowed the rest!) This is the first time I’ve seen the “seller should” message.
I only offer free returns on First Class items. All the rest are 30-day returns and I refuse to change. Since I activated free returns on FC, I’ve had 4 returns in my shop, versus the 4 returns I’ve had in the last 3 years. I believe that eBay is generating a culture of return-mindset and I don’t support it.
The items I show in the screenshot are those that I am not offering free returns. Hence eBay’s message.
+1 Sigilini. Now I only buy sets that are really cute and really really cheap. I’ve found that ceramic sets tend to go for about $12+ and if I can get them for a dollar or less, I’ll take them. But not bc they’re collectible, rather that I think they’re cute/odd/interesting.
07/25/2018 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #46135Ok… it listed the rest of them at no charge. And my Overview tab shows I’ve used 118 of my 200, so it must have triggered on the relistings as well.
Thanks for the info, Sharyn, looks like it does work. Now I can try to ensure I never lose out on listing offers again.
07/25/2018 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #46134Sharyn, I had 105 GTC items that I’ve been wanting to change to 30 day for a while now and, when I read that the 200 listings works for relisting, I figured YES! Now’s my chance! Ended my listings, and relisted my first 50.
Got charged. 🙁
So I guess the offer is for 200 NEW listings, not relistings.
Retro Treasures, I’d not complain about $100 normally, but … each set was different, so I needed to photograph and list each set individually. So it was $2 for the set, plus approx $1 packing cost, plus eBay and PayPal fees, and the time it took to photograph, edit, and list twenty times. I considered a Lot Listing, but they would have gone for even less money as nobody wants a lot of different salt and pepper shakers unless they’re planning to resell.
To be honest, I’ve not crossed shakers off the list. I’m now really, really, really picky about them! Just recently found an awesome set that was a cat salt pot arching its back over the pepper pot in mint condition. Unfortunately, when the saleslady was packing it up for me, she must have knocked the plug out of the cat, because it was gone when I got home. Now I have to find replacement plugs. Sigh…
They are coaxial video patch cables, and they shouldn’t damage equipment if they’re installed correctly.
As for worth reselling, I found this listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-COAXIAL-CABLE-VIDEO-PATCH-ADC-CP1041-MALE-TO-ADC-CP1041-MALE-/183251154407?oid=141261655306
2 recommendations: search solds for comps and Google the ADC codes for information on the particular cable. My husband (who gave me the ^ information) says that the different codes are for different functions and that you should find all the relevant data by just using the codes in a Google search
Oh, I got NAILED with vintage salt and pepper shakers! Bought 20 of them! TBH, they did all sell, but for a measly $7 a set when I paid $2 per set. Sigh…
And I had a trinket bowl that I listed as a “chingadera” for a while, much to my husband’s amusement. It still didn’t sell, so I edited it back to whatever bland generic I had before.
07/25/2018 at 12:03 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #46108Vintage Treasures didn’t post, so I’m doing the schedule.
Gonna try to list 200 items in the 4 days by using my phone to take only 2 photos of each item, then will go back and edit the listings to bring them up to my standard quality.
Awesome score… and great start to the story! 😀
Wish I could get a hanging bottom.
😀 😀 😀 😀
MUST try this!
