So sorry, Thrift Raider.
If the tickets are nonrefundable, can you change your flights to later in the year? I just changed mine from next month to August – not due to the virus, but other factors. If I could have flown now, I would have. They’re practically giving away upgrades! Sometimes you can change with a change fee, rather than lose a non-refundable deposit. Change to several months in advance, and then, about a month from now, see if you can upgrade to a class that offers a refund. With the change fee and the upgrade fee, it may work out to a few hundred, but less than the cost of an entire nonrefundable ticket.
Wow, what a week! Will post updates of the cabin tomorrow. It was late by the time we finished and I forgot any photographic device.
Listed 25 this week. Feel so motivated to get back to work on eBay now that I have such an awesome cabin to work in. No… I haven’t moved into the cabin yet, but it’s still motivating. Also, I cut fabric wrong, broke needles on my serger, and generally had a really sucky day, so after a whopper of a 2-year-old temper tantrum, I spent yesterday listing. Did more than half of the week’s number yesterday instead of sewing my complicated costume. Procrastination is my friend! Now I have a couple midnight runs to get through to catch up lost sewing time. Gah!
Thanks Sonia. I didn’t know this and have been putting through personal items as $0 COGS. This will save me some money!
It was interesting for me to put my view that we should be happy with the price we get to the test this week. I got an offer slightly above half for an item I had. When I checked the buyer (I check EVERY buyer who makes offer, look at their feedback left for others) I noticed he was a seller himself. He was selling my item for 4 to 5 times the price I had it up for. I debated his offer for a few hours, but eventually accepted. He obviously knows his stuff, I have no idea if it is worth more than I sold it for. If I didn’t see that he was selling similar items, it wouldn’t have bothered me. My thinking was; if I expect other sellers to sell to me at the advertised price, and then I sell it for more, I should understand that others will do the same to me. Kinda quid pro quo, you know? So I sold it for $27 on best offer. I’m going to check his store to see when it goes up, but I’m guessing he’s going to market it at about $100. But he knows the niche, I don’t. I need to respect that and allow the free market system to work. I just wish more stores would have the same viewpoint, instead of the grabby greed they so often display.
My listings are the War and Peace version. Write as if you don’t have photos, take photos as if there is no description. I give a description of the item, the condition, and then paste a very comprehensive store policy/disclaimer at the end. Everything is also in Item Condition and Item Specifics, so a lot of stuff is very repetitive.
I went through a very short phase of one liner descriptions, but I had quite a few issues on items sold. I went back to writing my encyclopedias. It makes me happy. Buyers don’t have to read it unless they want to. It makes them happy either way. Goal achieved.
03/07/2020 at 11:10 am in reply to: Travelling to Japan – any suggestions of what to buy for resale in the US #74845What fun you had! I’m so jealous, I have wanted to go to Japan since I was in single digits and read the book Shogun! I should see if it’s available on Kindle and read it again.
By the way, we’d love to have you back on the Listing Challenge. My sincere apologies for missing that you were away, but you can be reinstated very easily. I never delete anyone, just move them down below the active group.
I’ve been researching for listings for the last day and a half and, even when I abbreviate the search to only 3 words or so, it occasionally comes up with “no exact match.” There’s definitely a problem
03/06/2020 at 10:10 am in reply to: Vintage appliance cord, Electra guitar, Record stand, Slide rule, Playing cards #74807Thanks for posting, Sonia! I love selling mugs, but I don’t think I’ve ever found anything as cool as these before. When I’ve cleared my death piles, I’mma start looking for some!

March Challenge – Halloween. Go make some spooktacular listings!
Spreadsheet updated, Libby wins with a blistering week! VL made a valiant effort to oppose.
VT, please advise the points allocation for the January and February Challenges?
Go list folks! And don’t forget the March Challenge: Halloween!
So sorry about your kitty, VT. It really does hurt!
Sorry VT! In my defense, you were the one who said to only post the Challenge on March 1st! π
But isn’t it a fun one? Not what anyone was expecting, I think.
I’ve long been on the “ban daylight saving” wagon, now I read that it’s been punted by retailers for extra buying time. And the figures involved! We’re never getting rid of DST. π
Yay! March! I may suck at listing at the moment (ChristineR – you’re welcome to stay and just zero out until you get a listing or two up, look at my weeks! LOL) but these Challenges are very motivating for me!
Okay, March is Daylight Saving Time and therefore the Challenge is… drum roll… Halloween!
Ha! TOLD you I found a fun fact for the Challenge! π
From this very interesting article on NPR I found the following:
For 25 years, candy-makers have wanted to get trick-or-treat covered by Daylight Saving, figuring that if children have an extra hour of daylight, they’ll collect more candy. In fact, they went so far during the 1985 hearings on Daylight Saving as to put candy pumpkins on the seat of every senator, hoping to win a little favor.
If you read the article, you will learn that DST is a huge money earner and retailers keep pushing it. We’re now up to eight months of extra hours, due to lobbying.
So, the March Challenge is Halloween. Get your crap up early and you’ll beat the rush in September.
Happy Listing, y’all!
Phew! Just squeaked in for the February Challenge! π

Listed one green item with St Patrick’s in the title! Although I think Libby took the crown on this one, she listed a LOT of green! LOL.
And that’s my one and only listing for the week.
