Here in California at least, Unemployment is supposedly available and easy to get, but in practice it isn’t happening quickly enough. I have neighbors who have applied and got denied for no clear reason. The measures that allow people to not pay rent are ahead of the availability of funds for unemployment etc.
In terms of why the lockdown if you live in a small county with only a few cases– how many ICU beds does your county have? Probably none.
See the problem?
Its total nonsense, the employee just doesn’t know what they are talking about. Unless the Maryland order is suspending the constitution and declaring martial law, the person is wrong.
My county in California has been under one of the strictest Public Health Shelter in Place Orders possible by law in the nation, and was done earlier than anyone else– it is technically a misdemeanor to break the terms of the order (although law enforcement are not enforcing it at this time it is voluntary)–we are allowed to go anywhere that is open for business. We go to the post office 2-3 times a week. Law enforcement is only concerned with businesses trying to stay open against the orders of the county, not individuals.
I completely love Gareth Marenghi’s Darkplace! I have seen Mr. Mercedes and speaking or King fatigue, I definitely had it watching that. I preferred the outsider. Mr. Mercedes is kind of, I dunno nihilistic i guess.
I’m selling all sorts of stuff– books, cutlery, toy trains, shoes, electronics, clothes.
Watched the Outsider too, I liked it but pretty different than most Steven King stuff. More police procedural (although still supernatural). Also watching Altered Carbon on Netflix, and tried Picard, but couldn’t get into it.
The minute after the announcement the stimulus bill passed, I got a onslaught of orders. I sold 700 dollars of stuff in one day. Anyone else have that??
I just signed up with wave, and got the last 2 months of paypal records to integrate fine. But it looks like I shouldn’t expect that to last.
My guess is Knights of Columbus too. Or some fraternal org
I think this is a situation each of us individually has to gauge. It depends on what part of your income comes from online sales and what you earn from elsewhere and how stable it is. it also seems to me that some people are selling the same amount as before, some less, some more. For some reason, I am selling more than before (my speculation is because I have a lot of media items like books, movies, music) so people being stuck inside with little else to do is a boon. So I am a little more confortable sourcing stuff– But I am seeing as the OP said, some great opportunities to buy where nobody else is paying attention. The main thing I am focusing on is buying stuff people will always need even if the economy stinks for a while– stuff related to work, home, health, safety, etc.
Based on my experience living near the border some years ago and going through the border (American going to Canada), I would think the most important thing is documentation– bring copies of invoices/receipts proving you are going across for business purposes to ship goods, and nothing else. It will benefit you that you are at a small town border crossing for sure.
Bring a business license or other paperwork showing this is legitimate to show border agents. You may want to consider doing one shipment a week so you have a bunch of stuff to offload at once. I was always surprised that my experience was worse coming back into the States then going into Canada. But then again Canadians are probably nicer to each other than Americans are 🙂 Unless things get really irrational, I am hoping that our countries governments will remember the US/Canada relationship is a close one and even unique in the world.Anybody who is this crazy should be ignored. If someone starts using profanity, violent speech, or breaks the terms of conduct for ebay, I call ebay and block them/ban them from auctions (figure out how to configure your account so you can do it).
Also, get a PO Box and use a business name for shipping.
In your situation, it would be best to report to the police. Bring the printed out emails to the station in person and ask to report terroristic threats. Ask for information about a stay-away order or restraining order.
I’ve seen a spike in sales beyond normal over the last 3 days. It spans multiple categories– household, entertainment, vintage items. I have a ton of stuff to list so I’ll be doing that. Yesterday I spent all day taking pictures. In the SF Bay area, I think we’ve been seeing the illness going around for a while since we are the first place travel from Asia lands. When news first became big (late feb) about covid 19, us (including me and my wife) and a lot of our neighbors had what we thought was just a cold or mild flu going around. I think we all already had it. Don’t know for sure of course because seemingly nobody can get tested.
I used to sell a lot of vinyl. I would just post in the listing that the promo sticker fell off, and document it with pictures. Maybe put the sticker in an envelope and put in the sleeve. Promotional pressings often have different serial #s on the vinyl ring (on the record surrounding the center label), so there are other ways a collector would be able to determine that it is a promo.
It looks like repurposed old tire rubber.
It may be something to hold the vestments of a catholic nun. I can’t imagine why a nun would need a personalized napkin ring, but I am not super familiar with the tradition.
