I’ve lived in California for 15 years and this is one of those California laws you will never figure out. It seems to be the perfect example of a byzantine law which has none of its supposed intended outcomes.
For example, almost every public building door (every door!) in California has to have a Prop 65 warning sign on it. Maybe a politicians brother owned a sign making company.
Thanks Jay appreciate the advice. I do think he was wasting my time and wasn’t real responsive so I think I’ll file an unpaid item.
Glad you got the $ Timo. Hopefully some people at least are getting some $. Still a drop in the bucket though it seems to me.
There are a few countries where clothing of any kind can’t be imported. I think Italy is one too.
Right now, Fedex Ground Home Delivery is the super star of delivery formats. Everything else has absurd delays. Particularly bad is Fedex Smartpost, which I have stopped using altogether.
I’m sure plenty of saber-rattling will go on by politicians, but it means nothing. I would be completely shocked if they let the post office fail, especially right now as it is still critical infrastructure during a pandemic. If the leadership lets that happen, then probably much bigger problems are coming (i.e. the bottom falling out of the economy) besides the postal service going under.
This is great news. I’ve been listing like a madman! Now I don’t have to rush.
Best wishes to you and glad you are doing well. The Emergency fund is critical to any business owner of any size, and any family of just about any size (even the very rich)!
Its kind of interesting that the “other” carriers like Fedex, UPS, etc are booming during the covid-19 shelter in place, including smaller regional delivery companies, but USPS is getting gut punched so hard by this. Seems to me it is because the USPS gave up on competitive pricing on larger packages quite some time ago. It shows that the USPS is wired differently at this point.
The USPS would take a long time to phase out because of the reverberating effects people are mentioning of how it would damage businesses. It may end up like parts of the railroad industry/AMTRAK– basically operating at a loss for decades because the infrastructure is too critical to the national interest. That’s why we are as taxpayers paying for the pension of retired railroad workers. I’m not complaining, but its an example of there being some critical infrastructure that needs to operate even if it doesn’t earn money. Socialism being used to save capitalism as it were.
I am noticing really significant delays in shipping with USPS right now. First class is taking 2-3 days longer than usual. I can’t square that with them saying volume is down.
Nah. The selling of second hand goods is as old as time itself. Although its easy to understand the panic right now, things will even out. Might be tough for a while, but this isn’t the end of things, just a time of change and uncertainty.
Yeah, the Bay area where I live was first in the country with the Shelter in Place Order, which a lot of people were shocked by at the time. It was the most stringent in the country and people thought it was an overreaction, but as time has gone on, I think it has proven to be the right decision. I don’t usually have a lot good to say about our politicians, but at least they had enough sense to listen to doctors and scientists about this.
As you said, still a huge problem with lack of tests which means our numbers mean very little, but it has given people time to prepare for the onslaught and prevent a NY/NJ situation. If they could figure out how to give people enough money to get by while this rides out thing, we’d be in a more secure place.
A confirmation number, no email.
Its 18 months until the vaccine can be expected to be ready, so this saga will be long. That doesn’t mean we will be stuck in our houses for 18 months, but It will probably be punctuated by periods of isolation depending on the numbers of the outbreak. Unfortunately with very limited testing availability and a shortage of PPEs like masks, we are probably in the infancy of the isolation. Also unfortunately, at least in the States, our response is less comprehensive and centralized than other countries, which means it will probably drag on longer here. I’m a retired physician’s assistant, so I am just going off what I am hearing and guessing based on what I know.
My wife put in for the 10k loan advance (she’s a medical professional). It was a simple process to apply, we’ll see what happens. She’s a sole prop.
