I purchased a vinyl record for $1 because it had a “promotional only” sticker on it and I figured I would give it a shot. I don’t normally deal with vinyl and I don’t plan on making it a big part of the business, I just thought this one looked neat. I get it home and took a couple of pictures and all was well. A few days later when I go in the office I found that the “promo” sticker had come off. That sticker lasted almost 45 years until it met me! There doesn’t seem to be any obvious tampering, like someone else put it on there, but I’m not sure what to do next. I don’t want to glue it back on because it might just fall back off, but it also would look sketchy. I’m not concerned about losing the $1 but I want to use this as a learning opportunity for what others would do.

I tried to put the pictures in a few times, but they wouldn’t go. It’s not really essential to the issue.

Here are instructions for posting photos on the forum:
My guess is to photograph the sticker for the listing and just say it fell off. You can include an envelope (mark the outside) as part of the sale.

What is the artist and name of the record? Vinyl can be very popular for certain genres.

It’s the Towering Inferno Soundtrack from 1974. The record is in perfect condition except some numbers are etched into the center. Not the actual part with the grooves. The cover has an imprint of the record, but the sleeve looks great. Nothing terribly special, but I was hoping to make maybe $10.

I don’t know too much about vinyl, but it doesn’t appear to be particularly valuable. $10 seems about right. Personally, I wouldn’t glue the sticker back on because it would damage the cardboard if someone pulled it off.
I think reattaching stickers is more for ceramic or glass items where the manufacturer could make the item worth more. Maybe someone else has a different opinion.

I knew it wouldn’t be valuable. I’m still new and too scared to make any big purchases or gambles. I use everything I get as a learning experience so $10 on a $1 item (before fees and all that) isn’t a bad deal for me. 🙂 Thank You for your help I really appreciate it.

I used to sell a lot of vinyl. I would just post in the listing that the promo sticker fell off, and document it with pictures. Maybe put the sticker in an envelope and put in the sleeve. Promotional pressings often have different serial #s on the vinyl ring (on the record surrounding the center label), so there are other ways a collector would be able to determine that it is a promo.

Perhaps that is what the etchings are on the inside? I knew this wasn’t a gold mine or anything, it was just something neat and different. Thank You so much for your help.
