Jay, it appears that the email received, despite the obvious yet almost certain unintentional rudeness, has been a gift. My hats off to your thoughtful push back, and the education put out on a topic that is seldom addressed.
What truly sets you and Ryanne apart from the ruck is your ability to be completely real and natural, yet professional through it all. You are the specops of radio! With folks like you two, any weakness eventually becomes a strength.
Ryanne, I hear you so loud and clear concerning boxes. I have a scary stack that has taken on a life of its own and has taken over the garage. What needs to be done is a matching of box to item, then flatten the box and label. Excessive multiples can be put out for recycle. What would really solve my problem would be paid storage but I have other expenses that need to be gone first. Yes, shipping labels were a bit funky last week. I could not find the Priority small flat rate box as an option after already packing items to ship. Fortunately I had padded flat rate envelopes and just put the boxes in them and shipped for a few pennies more. This happened on a rushed early morning when I was attempting to get all my packages out before heading to work. Would have been trouble if I was a newbie or a more casual seller.

# International sales: 1Normal good listing week for me, aggressive buying week, lots of big, bulky, heavy, weird, nautical and vintage hardware box lots, so I will be busy. Found a 65 pound vintage tool Cabinet for $10 deep into the market, got the picker’s high, and shoulder carried it out of the market doing my best to breath normal and look casual. I think of Jay’s NYC street book scavenging every time I do this. Took photos of the heavy bulky stuff and wrote descriptions Saturday outside in the Florida sun and humidity. Found a 65 pound vintage tool Cabinet Slept very well.
Some great sales posted! As always, more and more impressed with Steve’s serious electronics tinkering, an amazing scavenger advantage.

A really, really beat old red box sold on Etsy for $40. I paid the $3.00 asking. The buyer paid an additional $40 for shipping to expedite. He is using it as a gift box for his mother’s birthday. I wonder what lovely gifts he plans to put in there?

Those big neighborhood sales are great the way you described. Our community was like that, we literally had return buyers every six months, and my family even listed particular collectibles on Craig’s List. Until that fateful sale where my regulars arrived one Saturday morning to a gate that would not open.
Story is below if you want to read. Ever since then, and even though we are open to outside buyers again, our community sales have never really recovered.I LOVED the Columbia Records Sign story, how it was found, the bargaining, and the very healthy sales price!

Great Podcast as usual!
We used to do two yard sales a year (Our SW Fl gated community allows two per year). My entire family would make good money, not eBay prices, but well worth the trouble and cash in hand. My family actually set items aside for the yard sale months in advance. As happens in gated life, a resident complained that an ‘outsider’ yard sailor stole something from them. Now the bored board members, long retired members at large, and all the assorted busy bodies gathered to ‘fix’ the problem.
So, the next yard sale was slated for residents only, with the community gates closed to outside shoppers (which comprises about 99% of potential buyers!). They neglected to inform the couple of dozen of us that set up that warm Saturday morning to sell our wares. It was a beautiful morning. Where were all the people?! We made zero sales. I blew my top when I heard what happened and wanted a head on a platter. A weak General Manager blamed a contracted gate guard for making the call, and the board backed him up. All the steam was taken from my yard sales selling engine that day.
Kind of a funny story, especially for those who also subject themselves to live in these HOA and gated places. I was seriously pissed at the time. That was the end of my yard sales selling, several years ago.
