That was back a long ways, and I’ve since learned the USPS greatly frowns upon shipping Mercury in any form, so I just stay clear. I suppose there are some hazardous materials special mailing hoops to jump through, but no thanks.
People collect various ‘vintage, old school, medical measurement devices, medical glass instruments, fever testers and such’. Lets say I used good key words in the title even without calling the device what it was. It worked. Like speeding with radar, until you get caught.
There is too much other stuff out there to sell.
Last year on Etsy, I received VERO for listing VOLKSWAGEN toy cars, BLUE ANGELS inflatable planes, and had a listing taken down for a licensed Washington REDSKINS lapel pin. These items are no problem on eBay, as far as I know, been listing them, and just sold one of the Blue Angel planes.
But its a long dark tunnel talking about Restricted, Regulated, VERO, and similar items on any selling platform. Makes my brain hurt, especially when there are grayish areas to stray into. Best to brush up on the facts now and then, listen to your gut, and not get froze out with fear when selling.Jadowa,

Earlier today, I noticed when I was over at the ‘What Sold’ forum, I clicked on your store and nothing came up. At first I thought this a glitch, now I see. Maybe you are shut out for a time? Sucks.
I scored a big handful of old school fever thermometers some years back and they were promptly taken down. I relisted without the words Thermometer and mercury and sold them.
Wouldn’t take that chance now.

Lucas, I used to love a cheap souvenir repro of that Confederate $500 note as a kid! It was kept in my ‘locked’ junk drawer of treasures.
Last week I sold a good bit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures that my 83 year old mother in law picked for me up north. It was my first smart phone guided pick, trying to contain my excitement when I learned the price for a big lot at a church sale was only $6.00. The figures worked out to about 10 cents each and at the end of the day, all should sell. Even loose, played with, and without weapons and accessories, some good prices were paid for these not too old toys. I did my research, and interesting to note is I almost lot many of them up for much less than I sold them for individually.Cave Beast Bebop and his Bronto have a couple of accessories, sold for $140

Hi Brian,
I don’t believe they are give aways, the bases seem too delicate to place in boxes as prizes. If they are really small, probably not carnival prizes. I like the Cupcake topper idea, although usually found with picks rather than elaborate little bases like this. Makes me think 1950’s, and the design is a bit art deco. Translucent plastic is a good key word when listing, maybe even lucite, although I’m not an expert on plastic. Could there be some tiny printed markings on them you may have missed? Sometimes one design will be marked and another not, like with the plastic drink novelty ‘Zoo Piks’.
I will say I do comb through eBay listings often looking at ‘vintage toy plastic animals’ to find rare pieces and oddballs, and have never seen these. Its the bases that are most unique. So I think they are a bit of a rarity but how much is a buyer that likes this kind of stuff willing to pay?

For me, during the early days, more horror to add. I also had to find a wise guy techie neighborhood kid to help me with all aspects of getting photos uploaded. I remember walking the streets with discs and crappy cameras and knocking on doors. The money was so good, I endured the humiliation.Hello all, and thank you yet again Jay & Ryanne for your podcast, the best Bits & Bytes hangout for us scavenger seller types anywhere. I can still remember how lonely it was searching for a place to just hear upbeat shop talk and find folks who shared understanding concerning all the little nuanced aspects of online junking. You are a blessing, and that goes out to the rest who gather here.
I enjoyed some great sales on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures with a remarkably low COGS of less than 10 cents per item. I guided my Mother in Law, age 83, at a church sale in Connecticut by phone down here in Florida. She paid $6 for a huge lot, packed them in a suitcase and brought them to Florida for her holiday visit. When I listed most of the good ones right around Christmas, I was betting on the ‘this is what I REALLY wanted for Christmas 1990’s grown up kids’ to be the buyers.

Last week was big & bulky week with a sprinkling of small item surprise sales.
I only paid $5 for this rusty old Hallowell cubby cabinet yet it was a mammoth to carry out of a crowded flea, a beast to photograph, and a bear to ship. My right wrist still aches from packing as I type more than a week after shipment. It sold for $200, plus an extra $25 profit shipping by FedEx.
