I’ve had 3 chargebacks in 3 years. For each one I simply provided a screen shot of the shipping details and they released the money back to me…
I paid $49.00 for 1 months membership of truegether and only got 1 sale for $32.50. Definitely not long enough for a real experiment but have had all 1700 listings there for 3 months now and only one sale. What a bust! 🙁
I guess I am the lazy one here. I cannot stand the thought of itemizing each purchase individually, it would drive me insane and take up time I should be listing. I add up all my cogs for the year, subtract what hasnt been sold and use that number for my yearly cogs. I’ve sold well over 2k items this year, and currently have 1700 listed. I dont find it possible to be that meticulous with that many items. If I were selling duplicates then it would be easier. I’m getting anxiety just thinking about it! 😛
At 1600 listings, your store should be running itself. I have almost 1700 listings and work at my own pace. I ship between 5-12 items a day. List about 15 items a day. I source 2 times a week. Are you not in a “grove” or have a routine? Maybe this would help. I have 2 kids and a husband who is no help. I do all the housecleaning, bill paying, ect. My husband is not really supportive about what I do and tells me its not a real job. So yes, it can get stressful at times if you are running this business on your own, but the great thing about this business is you can back off when you are feeling this way. Take a day or 2 off and only pack and ship items. Your business will not die off in a matter of days. With 1700 listings you are in a good situation to coast. I will share my routine: Monday/tuesday=source, Wednesday/Thursday=take pictures and measurements. (I take pics of 50-80 items and lay the in a laundry basket in order, I then sit for 1-2 hours total taking measurements and double checking for stains. I write a brief description of each item on paper and throughout the remainder of the week will list off this paper when I have time.) If I am cooking, I list a couple items. First thing in the morning I list a couple. Its a routine and honestly I probably only work about 30 hours a week. Its an assembly line approach and it speeds up productivity. Good luck!
Store name is Felixsfindsllc. I sell between 5k-8k a month on ebay so I definitely have good items. This is a little depressing for me since you have only a fraction of what I have and yet not had 1 sale. 🙁 Hopefully paying the subscription will give me a boost.
12/13/2016 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Paying yourself, Putting some back for buying inventoy Percentages? #8071I saved all my ebay money for 6 months while working my other job. Once I hit 5k I was able to quit and do ebay full time. I started out paying myself 350 a week for about 6 months. After that I gave myself a little raise and continually bumped it up as my sales increased. I now pay myself 575 every friday. Anything extra stays in my business checking for taxes and inventory purchases. I “pretend” the only money I have is my weekly “paychecks” Its been working out for about 1.5 years so far. Up to about 17k in checking right now but with my tax payment due in a couple weeks, Im glad I have this system in place. Almost 5k in taxes this quarter…its so hard to give that up but glad its there when the time comes.
12/13/2016 at 10:03 am in reply to: Dealing with "not as described" (but really buyer's remorse) ebay returns #7995I am in the new returns program and its amazing. Returns are pretty much processed like normal except on the last window you have multiple extra options. If they choose NAD, the last window gives you the choice to refund original shipping, return shipping, restocking fee. Love it, need it, cant live without it!
Thanks for looking into it for me. I have almost 1700 listings and no sales so far. I just signed up for the google shopping for $50 a month. I will keep you guys posted to see if it makes a difference.
I tried FBA for about 6 months a couple years back and stopped for the same issues J&R are having. Too many fees, buyers returning items excessively and lying to avoid paying return shipping. Since then, I do merchant fulfilled on a few items which nets me between 300-500 a month. What really annoys me is the shipping credit they give you is never enough. For example, they charge 8.99 but the actual cost is 15.88. As long as the item sells for $50 Im okay but have been burned in the past by this. Also during 4th quarter they deactivate my toys and games listings even though I have been selling there for over 2 years and have 100% positive feedback. I prefer ebay much better.
For an item like that I would use big bubble wrap and then pad it out with newspaper in a box. Then double box it and pad that box out as well with newspaper. Maybe I would invest in some peanuts if I sold more electronics but to sell just a few every couple months this is what works for me. Never had an issue.
I source from garage sales, estate sales, auctions, goodwill (these are in order cheapest to most expensive.) I have a rules for myself so I dont overspend on items:
Spend 1-3 must sell for 20
Spend 5 must sell for 30
Spend 10 must sell for 40
Spend 15 must sell for 50
Spend 20 must sell for 60I know my cogs are way higher than a lot of people on the blog. I spend between 300-500 a week. I dont buy things I cant sell for at least $20. These rules have helped me avoid paying too much for items.
Love the new website! I will start sharing and commenting since its so easy now. 🙂
Average sales this week. I need to work harder to get my total items in store up. As soon as I break 1600 I drop back down due to sales, not a bad problem to have but still frustrating. Also wanted to mention I’m in the beta program for “not as described” returns. Its amazing!! I am loving it!! I hope they plan to roll this out for everyone soon. I’ve always fought and won cases for item not as described so having these new return options available has really reduced my stress.Week Oct 23-29, 2016
