You should be able to see SmartPost as a shipping option on your label page. When you are shipping, at the top of the label info there will be a dropdown box that says USPS. You change that to FedEx and then you can see all of the FedEx shipping options.
Put in your weight, length, height, and width dimentions and you will get your price.
Print your label, put on the package, and drop it off at your local FedEx location (USPS doesn’t like to take them.)
The basics are that FedEx will take the package to the buyers Post Office, then USPS takes it to the house. Generally it is faster than USPS Parcel, but cheaper. Weight isn’t as much of a factor in the cost, it is the size of the box. FedEx uses Dimensional Weight, where they price based on the size of the box. So smaller and heavier are cheaper than large and light.
We love it for heavier items.
For us right now, PayPal is a 2.9% fee plus $.30 per transaction.
Don’t quote me, but on the phone conversation with eBay they said they would remove the $.30 per transaction fee, and the new rates would be around 2.7%. Not sure that’s final, and things may change before implementing, but they did say they plan to have lower fees for online transaction processing. Overall, a small net win for sellers
And having buyers just be able to add their credit card number to eBay, like every other site, will be easier than forcing them to have a PayPal account.
A little of both.
It will be easier for a new buyer to just log into eBay and put in their credit card, just like with you on every other site on the Internet. Gone are the days of needing PayPal to make things faster.
They will be lowering the fees that we pay to get our money processed online. The rates are going to drop, plus there will no longer be a $.30 per transaction fee like PayPal charges.
Getting the buyers side will be easy. Just put in your credit card and you are done.
Why they are pulling PayPal at the same time is a little wonky to me, but I have been through enough implementations to understand what I don’t know…the techie side.
But I CAN say from the business side (where I was) that it is not helpful to sellers.
My hope is that they tell me that like 95% of buyers use credit cards anyway, just credit cards through PayPal. If so, then that side of the transition would be ok. Not missing out on a lot of buyers.
But having to list through Seller Hub is a hard stop for us. Even Veronica doesn’t want to go back.
Heads up on the new Evaluated Payments system. We got the message on this a couple of days ago, and then eBay call us directly to talk more about it. I have some time planned with them this week to talk more in depth.
Two big items came from our phone conversation. First, as Mike said, you HAVE to list direct through the Seller Hub for it to work. I get why, as with any implementations, they have to ensure that they control the environment as much as possible. This will probably be a deal breaker for us. I will try to find out when they will add the SixBit and WonderLister platforms.
Second, when you go to the new Managed Payments…people that want to pay via PayPal cannot buy from you. They can buy through credit card, just not through PayPal. I don’t know how many people that cuts out of the mix, but will try to get more info. Plus, I will try to find out more on why and how long it will be when PayPal is allowed back in (are we talking weeks or months).
On it. INAD will be a big topic I will try to get as much info on…
Not sure where INAD is broken out. I only see the total return rate on the Seller Dashboard.
I’m getting a bit frustrated that we have more INAD cases now. All clothing. The latest two were for item item having a smell. Nice. Can’t have a picture to prove that, so I have no recourse either.
Oh well. Return rate is up (2.7%), but so far still selling well. Not letting it bug me much, just rolling forward…

ASP: $34.52Welcome from Las Vegas! We got in last night, and met up with our friends that are also going to eBay Open and had a great start to the week. Plus, we brought our own blender, alcohol, and Keurig Coffee maker, so we are set up to party on the cheap!
I was really happy to see us hit a new listing record. This happened even while I was working two days at my contract gig AND doing some sourcing during the week (I was getting light). Good to know that we can crank our more listings faster and faster.
To that end, we are going to shift some focus, and have Veronica focus more time on listing hard goods when we return to get ready for Q4. So I will be taking on doing jeans and helping Veronica prep shoes so she can focus more time on hard goods.
Remember to send me any questions to try and ask the eBay folks while we are at the Open.
PS – I saw that Cyndi from AmazingTaste is going to be part of a panel here at the Open. I will tell her hi from the Trash Elves!
DantheDiner: Congrats and thanks for posting! 4000 is the ultimate level I’m looking for.
Great to see your numbers at that level. Very inspiring!
Sharpp: Looking forward to it!
Since you are in Henderson, I’ll have to pick your brain for good sourcing areas in Vegas. We go there every so often. We were there on a 50% off at Savers last time, and didn’t do too bad, but boy are the prices up on clothing!
bcfol440: Thanks for the tips and ideas! Much appreciated!
Thanks for the heads up on this Mike. We just received the email to opt in in September as well.
I will put this up at the top of our list to talk to eBay about at eBay Open next week, primarily the issue with SixBit and WonderLister.
Amen to both of you on that!
Jay: Great point! I’ll try to scour through that list before I go and see what I can get answers on.
No promises, I can only get the answers they would be willing to give. But it doesn’t hurt to try!
