Number of items listed: 79July was one of the better months for me in a long time. I had a few days of no sales but the weekends seemed to bring all of the buyers out. I spent quite a bit on inventory this month due to buying 4 large boxes of vintage computer games, video games, graphic novels, and comic trade paperbacks (TPB). Going through the games, I’ve increased my limited knowledge about video games and will probably be pickier when buying them in the future, but with the first box listed and about half of the games sold, I am already in the profit column on that box.
August looks to be even better. So far today, the first day of August I have had $231 in sales, and there are still 5 hours to go.

Number of items listed: 61Since the eBay deadline was fast approaching for the required item specifics update, I spent the better part of a full day updating listings that eBay indicated needed fixing. Almost all of them were for books that already had all of the requested item specific information in the title.
When you are listing after you put in the box size and the weight you are able to see what the Regional Box A and B will cost now. eBay added in the information about 5-6 months ago. You may even select them now as a shipping option for the buyer.
Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it. At least the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” is working great, I’ll just have to remember to check each week for new episodes, or now that I think of it, I should subscribe on YouTube to get notifications.

Hi Jay & Ryanne. I haven’t listened to the podcast yet but will do so later today. I was wondering, I haven’t received any email reminder notifications about the weekly podcast or the Wednesday What Sold Videos for the past week or so. Just wondering if there was a problem with my email address or something.
So far, my sales have been slow for June, but I haven’t been listing much either so that may have something to do with it. I did notice that eBay changed the used books category. Now it is Books and Magazines with a lot fewer subcategories under it. The item specifics have increased, I missed the old days when you just created the title, added pictures, price, shipping, and hit list.
As to thrift stores getting too many donations, when I was at my local Goodwill, I overheard the workers talking about stopping donations for the day because they didn’t have enough workers to put the stuff out on the floor. When I checked the shelves, many were empty and most of them only had about a third of the space filled with items. There seems to be a shortage of people around here (S.F. Bay Area) that want to work retail or service jobs, which I fully understand.

Net Sales: $1,228.41My total sales were up this month which was a nice surprise as the beginning of the month started out very slow. The Game of El Sobrante was a nice $5 find at a local flea market. These Monopoly clones were ordered by local service clubs to sell to raise funds for different projects. I almost kept it because one of the properties and deeds had my family name on it from when my father had a store in El Sobrante, but I got way too much stuff as it is.

The last time I posted on this forum was in April 1920, so it’s about time I do another.
This sold 5 days after I listed it. Sold for $48 + shipping, cost $3.
I recently ran a 50% off sale on some of my older items. This was originally listed on November 26, 2017. Sold for $25 + shipping, cost $4.
I purchased 10 of these at a Moose Lodge Sale for $3. This is the first pair that Sold. Went for $12.75 including shipping, cost $0.60 for the pair.
I love finding old electronics and these 2 Realistic transceivers are no exception. They may have got a sales boost from being very similar to the ones used in the series Stranger Things. Sold untested (each takes 8 to 10 batteries) for $48 + shipping, cost $8 for the pair. Went GSP to Italy.
This sold within a day of listing it. I probably could have charged more but there are about 8000 Swiss Army Knives listed on eBay so I’m happy with the $22.50 + shipping that I received. Cost $2.00.
Each time I drop off paper and cardboard at recycling, I check the book bin. So finding Outlander: The Complete Series, season 1-5 a 25 DVD set was fun. After watching the last few DVDs for season 5 (I was already in the midst of watching it via NetFlix DVDs) I sold the set for $22.50 + shipping, cost $0.00.
From watching YouTube videos, I learned that there is a big demand for vintage underclothes. This vintage 1980 2 pack of Jockey Jeans Briefs sold the day I listed them for $64.50 + shipping, cost $1.00.

I sell mostly collectables and vintage, very few new items unless I come across them at an estate sale. Books are my favorite because they are easy to list and have a high profit if you find the right ones. Paper items, old tools, old rusty hardware, maps, basically what ever I am able to salvage from estate and yard sales. Although, I wouldn’t recommending sending coins as I thing the likelyhood of them being lost in the mail not be worth the risk.
Congrats on the grand opening of the coffee shop. If I ever make it to the East coast I hope to stop by for a hot chocolate or tea.
This past week, sales have been very slow for me also. On the 27th, 28th, and 29th I didn’t have a single sale, so on the 30th, I went through my listings older than 3 years that had calculated shipping and used the eBay make offer page to do a 50% off sale. So far I have had 14 sales from that but still no other sales. I hope my eBay regular sales pick up soon.

Net Sales: $1,044.48I only had one customer issue which was my fault. A person purchased an Oxford Bible and I sent them a hymen book by mistake. When they started a return, I emailed them and told them to keep it and that I would ship them the correct Bible – so far seems to of gone okay.

It looks like it is one of the 1970s stained glass lamp kits that originally sold for about $25 and with a soldering iron you could make at home. I made a couple when I was younger. No idea what the value on them is now.
If the circle is 2.5″ across or bigger, it might be a napkin holder that holds the napkin vertically on the table instead of laying on its side. A google search for “deer head napkin rings” brings up some similar ones.
Jay, I do not think it will be broke done on the 1099 form itself. But since the performance link that was provided in an earlier Scavenger Life episode https://www.ebay.com/sh/performance/sales has a “Taxes and government fees” column and you can customize the date period, this should serve the need for knowing how much sales tax eBay collected on your behalf.
