Yea. This notification for offers declined thing has got to go. It started yesterday and its very distracting and to be honest I don’t want to be reminded that someone declined my offer. I like to offer and forget it!
I didnt see any either (but I shut her down too). Im slowly relisting one by one on 30 day for now. It could be that it happened early enough that none of our listings were affected or it just hit certain listings. I don’t think any of my GTC listings go up until at least 7am.
She didn’t say if it was all accounts or just some. I did make her repeat what she said in like 3 different ways just to be sure what I heard was correct. I told her I was going to post this so others would know so she would be clear. She said Yes they are losing photos again and the way to protect yourself is to Change GTC items to 30 days. She said it started a few hours ago.
Im the guy. Double checked and she actually didn’t change my listings to 30 day. I went ahead and did it myself. I just did the ones that were going to end today. It was 59 listings. She said she was expecting a lot of calls today. Not sure whats going on but Im shutting down GTC until the dust settles.
Just ordered the aviditi sizer. Looks like a good investment. Thanks Retro WV!!
I buy boxes from eBay and from Pratt on Amazon. I have bought from Uline as well. Those catalogs would have been great back in the days of outhouses.
I love the boxes (from Pratt) which are 30″x 24″x 5″ because they are perfect for framed art and have a lot of real estate if you want to make your own box. If I wanted to ship a kitchen knife for example, I could make about 20 kitchen knife sized boxes out of one of them.
Another trick I have learned is to make two boxes into one when I have an odd size. If I have an item which is 10″x 10″x 25″ long it is hard to find a box to fit so I would use 2 12″x 12″x 12″ boxes and tape them together using the flap to make the extra inch. Now I have a box which is 12″x 12″x 25″or 26″ or whatever. Could go bigger if needed.
I can’t tell you how many times I have knocked $20 or so off the shipping by doing this. Having new boxes makes the math easy and makes it quicker as there is a bit of trial and error- and they really are cheap.
I don’t like to keep too many extra around though. I know they can attract bugs if they get too old.
That sounds cool! Kind of a neat town. We would definitely go out there for a meet up. Now all we need is some people! Anyone out there?
Thanks AdventureE. Ill check it out!
Would anyone be interested in a Meet up in the surrounding area? Culpeper or Sperryville VA? We have reasons to goto these areas as well and could set up a lunch or something.
Jay?
I just started listing slides a few weeks ago and have had such good luck that I decided to buy a wolverine F 2-D film to digital converter. They are about $140 but it is so easy to use you can just feed the slides through and push a button for them to download to your computer. Works great and Will pay itself off pretty quickly. It also works with other sizes of negatives and 8mm or super 8mm film.
A cheaper way to shoot slides is to get a white piece of paper and blast even light onto it. This will be the background. Next take a clothespin and clamp the the bottom of the slide and stand the negative up in front of the bright white piece of paper. Don’t put any light on the negative just on the white background. Now you can take a good picture. If you’re using your phone app you will need to take the pictures first and then upload them afterwords because you will need to use your zoom function on your camera phone. You cannot zoom with your camera phone while you’re in the eBay app.
Thanks to Jay and Ryan for the idea to sell photo slides. I absolutely love looking through these things!
12/10/2016 at 9:25 am in reply to: Old Town Alexandria VA- Dec. 10th 1PM- Carluccio's 100 King Street #7755Just a heads up. The meet up is still on! It looks like the only 2 attendees will be Skycam and T-Bone but if we enter in separate doors, it’s still the first official Scavenger Life meet up! We will hold that title with pride!
Also I really want an Italian sub and T-Bone wants hot chocolate.
If anyone else happens by look for a really tall guy and his lovely companion sipping a hot chocolate. Both of our coats will be covered with dog hair.
Scavenge on!!
If money is an issue just pick up a couple of those clamp on work lights from lowes. Made by Bayco.
Get a couple of dimmer switches for them and you have a pretty good lighting set up for less than $30.
You’ll have plenty of light and can adjust the intensity when needed.
Just be careful mixing color temperatures- (daylight and tungsten).
Be careful with diffusers too. You can pretty easily diffuse away all the flaws on your item and then your customer will be in for a surprise! I have professional lights I won’t use for that very reason.
Another tip for using an iPhone camera and the eBay app. Take the pictures in square mode before you start using the app. That’s the best way to view them on mobile- in square mode. You can’t use square mode when you are in the app.
Also by taking the photos first then uploading them into the app (instead of using the camera mode within the app) you can use the zoom feature. Its very hard to get a close up shot from your iphone camera within the app because you can’t zoom.
They can’t get into filing cabinets! heh heh heh!
