Yes, it looks like it could be a perfume bottle. What does the stopper look like?
@ChristineR – If you click to make an offer on just one item, the default that comes up is the price option. If you click several items at a time to make offers on all of them, then the default is a percentage off (unless you did what I did). I’m curious because the lowest percent they allow me is 5%. How did you end up with a $1 price?
I listed 12 items.
Three had gold (one actual and the others had gold color accents).
I found a weird sort of glitch on the “make offer” function this week. I selected three things that I wanted to do a small 5% offer just to get them off the page. After getting to the make offer page, I decided to remove one of the items, so I went back to the previous page, unclicked that one item, and then pressed make offer again. I put in the 5, but the default had changed from a percentage to the actual price. You see where I’m going here? Someone bought a glass Fenton vase, which I was selling on commission, for $5. When I realized what happened, I immediately ended the second item and relisted it so that the $5 offer was removed. My mistake for not checking it, which I usually do, but I think it is a glitch as well.
Anyway, I had a good week, but not the high sales of the previous week (especially factoring in the $5 Fenton vase).
Week of April 12 – 18
* Total Items in Store: 1424 eBay, 34 Etsy
* Items Sold: 22 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $20.65 + $46.68 Commission
* Total Sales: $427.07 eBay
* Highest Price Sold: $39 Nikken bracelet (on commission); $35 lamp
* Average Price Sold: $19.41
* Returns: 0 (but 2 NPB)
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 12In Etsy news, I have someone who wants to buy 9 whiskey pitchers from a single maker, so I created a special listing for her. I gave her a week to pay, so hopefully it goes through.
I agree. The offer history used to be there, but now part of it is gone. In particular, the original offer you sent to the person who is now sending a counteroffer.
That’s hilarious! And I’m planning to make some this weekend; getting out my sewing machine that I haven’t used for about five years. Wish me luck and no bandages!
I think that the USPO would know the difference between a packing slip and a hand written letter. Although, a hand written note is media in a way, right?
I did some research about media mail a few years ago, and I read that newspaper used as packing material could be an issue. I think it was fake news, because, again, I think the USPO knows the difference between packing material and something being shipped. However, as long as I have other types of packing material on hand, I won’t use newspaper with media mail.
That’s a little different, then. If someone buys everything in one transaction, then it is all lumped together. I’m used to buyers not being that sophisticated, so they buy one thing at a time. eBay allows you to combine them as long as the address and username are the same, but then you have separate transactions in PayPal.
BTW, refunding for excess shipping is not an unusual thing to do and shouldn’t look like an out-of-stock situation. I do this all the time.
You would refund them through PayPal. Find their sales in PayPal and divide the excess shipping among them. Press “refund”, but make sure to change the amount because it puts in the full purchase price by default.
I used to just refund the excess on just one of the items, but I thought what would happen if they decided to return one item that I had not refunded shipping. At that point, when you refunded the one item they shipped back, you would lose on the shipping.
By the way, eBay doesn’t have a good method of setting up combined shipping.
I do live in the North East, and I’ve been thinking about it. I’ve seen a few local pickup items show up on my “make offer” list. I include a note that I am willing to still go ahead with it, but that I would consider social distancing in the pickup.
Normally, I do a pickup in a parking lot somewhere in town. Because of the corona virus, I would probably arrange for them come to my house and pick it up on my porch or on the driveway. Since it would be an eBay sale, I wouldn’t have to worry about exchanging money.
I haven’t had anyone accept an offer, so I haven’t put it into practice yet.

I had some good sales last week:
This manual drill/screw driver is over 100 years old and still works. When my son was in cub scouts, one of the parents was a carpenter and had one of these that he still uses. This one was purchased in an online auction for about $2 and sold for $38.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184207973907About two years ago I bought an auction lot of kitchen stuff and green glass. I grouped up several kitchen utensils in one listing, but never had any interest on it. A few weeks ago, someone asked to buy one of the items, an ice cream scoop. I decided to sell just that one item to him, and then listed all the other things separately. I sold a chopper and a scoop one right after each other for $14 and $5 respectively. Not much money, but my point is that sometimes things just don’t sell in lots. Actually, my point is not to buy these things in the first place because nowadays I like to sell at a higher price point.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184206568956Most of my higher sales were on commission for a family friend. I take 50% of the proceeds after eBay and PayPal fees. The highest priced one was a gold ring for $250.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184227198154I did have one big sale of my own. I paid $2.30 for an older ruby color iMac in an online auction. The auction listed it as being sold “as-is”, but it actually did work to some extent. I listed the details of what I found did and did not work. The buyer, who likes to fix computers and has extra time because of COVID, purchased it at the full price of $99 and had it shipped to Texas for about $44.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184171096295As far as eBay goes, sales have been great. I had one week as the quarantine started where I thought we were going to be in the doldrums for a while, but that was the only week that sucked. I think people have more time to shop, and Amazon is pushing buyers to eBay because of shipping delays and prioritizing essentials.
On the personal level, my daughter is back at home, and we have more meals together as a family. Our expenses have dropped by at least $1000 a month, and we will be getting a refund for her unused dormitory and meal plan costs. I’m still selling on eBay, and I’ve started a new job. This period of time (so far) has been very good for us financially.
When I do need to drive somewhere, traffic is very light. I’m seeing more of neighbors in the past month than I’ve seen since we moved here in 2005.
As a family, we’ve had some very nice hikes and a few walks. A couple of days ago, the sky was clear, the stars were out, and we were able to find a few constellations.
I usually plan a lunch once a month with former colleagues. Since we aren’t able to do that now, we are going to set up a WebEx lunch meeting. That will be different!
I do want to go back to normal life, but I appreciate the things that are good including the environmental stories of how this “pause” has been good for the Earth.
I hear you, but I think that gardening, especially anything to do with growing vegetables, should be considered essential.
I happened to see an article this morning providing more details, but, like Almasty said, anything that would provide for food should be considered essential. Or, for providing people reasons to be outside and getting their vitamin D.

I don’t get it. How is growing your own food going to affect the spread of the virus? That makes no sense whatsoever.
