WedWoes #4
I listed one of the Hexbugs. This brings my total to 4 Woes listed and 1 sold.
I really appreciated the challenge, and I’m happy with what I accomplished. I also did do some testing that focused my to-do list.
The act of creating an invoice for a foreign buyer causes the purchase to be taken out of the GSP. You can’t create an invoice through the GSP. If you opened an invoice, but didn’t press the send, you are OK.
Either the buyer has the option for GSP but wants you to take it out of it, or else they aren’t given an option for shipping once they press “buy”.
If the buyer isn’t given a way to purchase it, there might be an issue with the category. The GSP doesn’t work with certain categories to certain countries, but still allows the buyer to press “buy”. At least I think that is how it works. I had this happen to me once, and there has been some talk on the forums of similar issues.
If you contact the buyer, and they say that they have no method to purchase the item (they get a message to contact the seller for shipping), then you can cancel the sale and try different categories until you get one that works. You need a patient customer who really wants the unique item you have for sale.
Otherwise, you just have to cancel and tell the buyer you only ship through the GSP.
At least, this is how I understand it.
Thanks for the podcast! I’ve heard that the restaurant business is the hardest to be successful, but I think you guys are thinking things through reasonably. I can’t wait to see/hear it open!
The current week is starting off slow with no sales on Sunday, but last week was average:
Week of Sept 20 – 26
Total Items in Store: 1332 eBay, 35 Etsy
Items Sold: 18 eBay
Cost of Items Sold: $24.90 + $32 Commission
Total Sales: $347.95 eBay
Highest Price Sold: $42 Set 3 Gotham crystal water glasses, $43 Sajen sterling ring (commission)
Average price: $19.33
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
Number of items listed this week: 43I had quite the bonanza listing this week, but it was really helped by the fact that I was listing related items. Most were silver plate flatware from four different patterns/manufacturers.
I listed 43 items, all but two were silver.
My silver total is 105. I’ll update on the 30th if I add to it, but I think I’m bored with silver for now.
To answer your question, the thing I thought of was a bath towel. That should get me to 100 even if the person took a bath every other day. I like VT’s pick better. I’m just too practical. Maybe I’ll think of something more interesting later on.
They look like caster wheels without the connecting part. Something like this, but in metal:
Sure, there’s no getting around a 15 pound weight weighing anything less. I would go with FedEx or UPS shipping unless they fit into a USPS flat rate box.
I have some one pound weights that I bought for my kids when they were toddlers. I thought that they would get a kick working out with mom (they didn’t). I think I’ll list them, but I’m not sure they will get the same high pricing as regular weights, but we will see.
09/24/2020 at 10:53 am in reply to: RCA Console 8-Track Player, Donna Summers reel tape, Boyt duffle bag, Train case #81884Steve – I saw your advise last week on what to do with the JC Penney stereo system that has been sitting in my basement for a few years. I think I’ll try to replace the belts on the tape and 8 track players. If that doesn’t fix them, then I’ll just sell as-is.
From your end of video with the kitty cat, I just wanted to say that bananas and coffee go together quite surprisingly well!
This week, I sold two junk drawer listings to two different buyers. These are listings where I take mostly random stuff that I don’t want to sell separately and put them together in one big listing. Both had been listed for at least a year. There must have been an article somewhere about junk drawer listings since they both sold suddenly. The first sold with an offer of $36.75 and the second for $25.

If I do this again, I think I will avoid breakable items. I did not like packing those.
Last year I went to an auction where a few bidders threw out stuff they didn’t want in a big dumpster in the middle of the room. They must have been collectors and not resellers. I pulled out a few things including this vintage chemistry set. These go for very good money, but this one has missing items and some damage. Sold for $45.

I’m in a Facebook group called Freecycling where people list stuff that they don’t want, and other members can ask for the items. There is a strict no resell rule, which I absolutely follow. However, there is no rule saying that you can’t pick up an item and then sell the item it replaces! A lady offered several Wilton Armatale platters that matched some of the ones we received at our wedding years ago. So, I sold the mismatched one that my mom had picked up at a flea market for $1. It sold for $27.

I bought this sculpture for about $17 at a live auction last year. I was interested in it, but hadn’t taken a good look. Both myself and another bidder raised hands at the same time, and the auctioneer took his bid at $10 and then mine at $15 (plus premium). I really didn’t want it at that bid, but I went through with it. Then, I found that it was damaged at the base. Still, it sold (after about a year) for $84. Not a bad mistake to make.

I listed two other hot plates I mentioned earlier.
I have a hex bug waiting to be tested with the new batteries I ordered, so I can do at least that to get on the board next week.
He means the thickness of the roll, not the actual length. So, the thickness of the cross section or end of the roll.
Some people buy the packing tape and then list it on their own account to make a bit of money off the free supplies. You could do it with anything, but the tape is easy to repack and ship.
The middle section has some resemblance to the Lincoln Navigator emblem, but the globe behind it and the ring around it aren’t part of that design.
Paper seems like a good challenge to me. I have a few posters and two 1930s college yearbooks, probably some other items here and there. I vote to keep the books in! Would a laminated poster count? (It’s plastic, but paper in the core).
I enjoy hearing about the coffee shop and all the work behind it. I like hearing about your AirBnBs and listen to ShampooAndBooze.com at times. I like hearing about your eBay store and all the work there. Hum, maybe I just like listening to you guys in general!
Lots of sales on Saturday helped this week end well.
Week of Sept 13 – 19
Total Items in Store: 1299 eBay, 35 Etsy
Items Sold: 19 eBay + 1 Etsy
Cost of Items Sold: $43.75 + $13 Commission
Total Sales: $421.10 eBay + $17.39 Etsy
Highest Price Sold: $84 Women’s head modern art sculpture
Average price: $21.92

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
Number of items listed this week: 27Well, thank-you, for being so good to me. Just that here everyone is saying 1 or 2 or 3 in a week, and here I am with 27!
On the other hand, maybe I should set the challenge every month!!
I listed 27 items, and all of them were silver.
I had insisted that someone else chose the challenge for this month, but silver was chosen based on my suggestion. Now all but a few items I’ve listed this month meet the challenge. I’m up to 54. I kind of want to celebrate, but I’m kind of embarrassed.
