This was a slow week for me as well.
I have found a few online auctions here and there where I’ve been able to accumulate inventory for listing. I’ll buy now not only for the possibility of another shutdown, but also bidding prices tend to go up in the few months before and after the holidays. This happens every year, not just this one!
Continued good luck for your coffee venture. I purchased the espresso while I was listening to the podcast yesterday. I used my eBay bucks while I was at it!
Week of Oct 18 – 24
Total Items in Store: 1324 eBay, 33 Etsy
Items Sold: 11 eBay
Cost of Items Sold: $48 + $14 Commission
Total Sales: $198.49 eBay
Highest Price Sold: $37.50 Men’s wool cardigan sweater
Average price: $18
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $22.23
Number of items listed this week: 34I listed 34 items this week.
My high numbers were helped by a huge lot of magazines I bought in an online auction last weekend. It didn’t occur to me that these magazines met the paper challenge until yesterday afternoon. Between the magazines and a few other items, I listed 19 paper.
Awesome colleges that he is considering!
I think that you will have to contact each school to find out what they are doing. My daughter decided to take a gap semester (maybe two) due to the pandemic. Her college went completely remote for the current semester.
On the other hand, my friend’s daughter started college in north Jersey, and they are hybrid. There are restrictions, but she has two classes where she does attend in person.
Is he starting in the Fall of 2021? I hope things will have lightened up by then!!!
A little less than three years ago, we visited Boston to look at three colleges that my daughter was considering. Boston has a really neat, college city vibe; young and vibrant. It has great things to do, historical, artistic, food, culture, etc. The colleges there are top notch. Hell, I wanted to go back to college.
The thing is, coming from California, this is not just cooler weather. I grew up in Pittsburgh, I currently live in NJ, and I think Boston is cold. (BTW, I lived in LA for 5 1/2 years for my first job out of college). We are talking sub-freezing temperatures and snowfalls measured in feet (not all of winter, but portions of it). We didn’t go during cold weather, but I’m aware of how cold it can get there. If he is looking for cooler weather, I think that the novelty would wear off quickly.
Not saying that he shouldn’t do it. Just be prepared.
I believe that the make offer is not to anyone who just takes a look, but they have to look at it several times. Not all those 47 people will get an offer for your boring stoneware; just a few.
I did see that, but didn’t look at it closely. Antique Frog mentioned it in another post. It makes sense and is similar to a function available on Etsy.
10/22/2020 at 4:21 pm in reply to: Shipping page defaults to a more expensive method of shipping. #82721Note that if this happens to you again, you can cancel the label and repurchase the correct one. I’ve done this a few times.
Go to Orders –> Shipping labels
Find the sale using the buyer’s ID or name.
Under “More Actions” pick Void.
Then, you can go back to your All Orders page and repurchase a label.
You should probably contact the buyer and just explain what you did. They will probably get several messages from eBay and be confused about what is going on.
Here are the instructions to load a photo. I’d like to see that white fuzz butt with a tilted head!

@junque redux – Thanks for your note. I had read RT’s post, but didn’t realize what he was talking about at the time. I’ve reread it, and I’ll try his suggestion when I create listings again later this week.
I saw this link on Facebook. Pretty funny and probably right on point for some people’s pandemic buying habits. I forget what they called it, but what was particularly funny was the “new’ service that just wrapped it back up and sent it back without the buyer having to open the package or even receive it at the door 🙂
I was very busy last week with my part time job and our town’s freecycling event on Saturday. I delisted a number of items I don’t want to sell anymore. I am no longer running any auctions to get rid of uninteresting inventory (remember my challenge in the spring?) because of the higher listing limits that eBay now offers.
Anyway, zero for me.
I did start some listings this weekend in hopes of posting something, but the mobile app had a glitch where the photos were not uploading in the order I wanted no matter what order I selected them in. Now I have to go and switch them all around. Ugh. I hope that gets fixed quickly.
VT – sorry to hear about the wildfire smoke you have to deal with. Several weeks ago, it was a bit cooler and cloudy here due to the fires in CA. I’m on the opposite coast in NJ, so you know it has to be bad.
Interesting discussion about buying a car. Our daughter started a job about a month ago, and we have only one car with an automatic transmission, which is my minivan. So, we need to buy another one. In consultation with Consumer Reports and other research, we’ve decided on a 2017 Mazda 3. At the dealer on Saturday, the manager started talking about how a 2018 would be better for resale, and I’m like “uh, our newest car is 13 years old”. Ha! They didn’t have exactly what we wanted, so we are still looking.
I’m starting to see prices again in messages. I think Jay is right. Some programmer made a change and somehow wiped out the prices, and now they are back.
Salt cellars – some people still like to use them. Perhaps they are considered more formal or fancy. I bought a large lot of glass ones a few years ago. They didn’t go for much, but they did sell pretty fast.
Yes, a slow week all around:
Week of Oct 11 – 17
Total Items in Store: 1330 eBay, 33 Etsy
Items Sold: 13 eBay
Cost of Items Sold: $22.30 + $26 Commission
Total Sales: $242.82 eBay
Highest Price Sold: $39 lot 2 vintage Optimus / Radio Shack headphones
Average price: $18.68

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $9.20
Number of items listed this week: 0I volunteer for my town’s friends of the environmental commission group and manage the Freecycling events twice a year. I had to cancel in the spring. Although it is an outdoor event and could still happen, we rely on a local university to provide many of our volunteers, but they are currently remote. From ideas here on the forum and our freecycling Facebook group, we decided to go “curbside” this time. It was quite successful with about 130 houses that registered. I cannot use the event to get inventory as it is strictly against the rules, but some friends offered me a few items that hadn’t been taken. I’ll have to rewire a brass lamp, and I’ll have to figure out how to ship a large, heavy vintage (maybe antique?) enamel table.
10/17/2020 at 3:09 pm in reply to: Tension pole album rack, Record players, Pyrex percolator, X-Mod RC Car #82537I’ve just started listing things from an auction purchase of mostly dental & denture related stuff. This group of teeth impressions sold for $19. The whole lot, which included several bins and boxes, cost me $5.75.

Also from that purchase were four identical new shade guides for denture gums, brand name is Jelenko. They all sold within a week for $6 each. One person bought two; the rest were single purchases. I don’t think that these are current, so I’m not sure what people want them for. “I am not my target market”.

Just a pretty little pickle fork, but it is sterling. Sold for $28. This is one of my commission sales.
You are probably right about the TENS machine. This was something that one of my parent’s friends gave me, and they usually use those for back and arthritis pain.
If I could sell the resin instead of throwing it out, I would do it in a heartbeat. I’m not sure if it would fly on eBay, though. I’ll take a look at possible craft uses.
I’ll need to get through the rest of the stuff, which includes some machines that I’m having a hard time researching. I did figure out a foot controlled machine for some kind of grinder that (I assume) is used to shape or smooth out the dentures. It might be worth $200 even without the hand/grinder part. It’s called a KaVo EWR A9. I haven’t plugged it in yet.
Then there are several foot controllers that I have no idea what they do or how they could be tested. There’s some contraption labeled Tiger 35 Micro Engine A1. I’m getting craft and model car engine stuff coming up in research, but nothing that looks like this machine. There’s another similar machine that I haven’ researched yet. Some regulator valve thing made by a company called Norgren. I’m not sure what all these things are, how I will test them, and whether I want to sell them. It’s going to take some time and work.
I was not able to get it into a PFRE without it tearing either. If you think about it, the 7x5x4’s that no longer fit would be similar in girth to these new 6 x 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 boxes.
I never thought about eBay wanting to get the additional revenue. Maybe they just thought that the old size was too small. I did notice that many of the 6x4x4 were slightly defective. Still usable, but the sides wouldn’t fold out right and the box wouldn’t be quite rectangular. Maybe their supplier had problems with their equipment on so small of a size, so they made them bigger.
