You meant to say that the wood piece is 8″ (not 8′). It kind of looks like a pipe holder (smoking pipes), but I’m not sure that the holes are the right kind. What does the sticker say?
You don’t pay for FedEx labels until they are used. So, if it never gets scanned, you should not be charged. Check your eBay invoice at the end of the month.

My husband ordered some furnace filters off Amazon, and the seller sent the wrong ones. They refunded us and didn’t request that we send it back. I sold them at about half price.
12/17/2020 at 5:17 pm in reply to: Nautical bow light, Built model, Xmas album, Nut bowl, Betamax, Train case #84413I remember going to my grandma’s as a kid, and she had one of those nut bowls. I never find them, but I do have some vintage nut tools for whenever I do.
Not too much to talk about …
I purchased some vintage clothing in an auction maybe two years ago, and they’ve been selling little by little. This jacket was some kind of work in progress with the word “SAMPLE” stamped in the inside. I figured it was weird enough that someone would eventually want it. Paid less than $1, sold for $25.

A neighbor was throwing this rug out, so I grabbed it off their curb. Just checked shipping, and it appears to be stuck at my post office. It’s supposed to go to Nebraska. Hopefully, the buyer didn’t wanted to use it for the holidays.

This vase was one of my commission items. I believe that it is a Haag vase, but I couldn’t find exactly the same scene in my research, and the markings didn’t show the manufacturer. I set the price higher than others, and either I priced it too low or I right priced it, because it sold overnight to someone collecting these types of vases.
Like anything, it depends. As Ryanne has mentioned a few times on the podcast, she has made some very good ROIs with china and ceramic. As you stated, shipping is difficult and time consuming, and there can be breakage even with very good packaging techniques. You have to make that decision.
Usually the best way to sell an incomplete set is to break it up. Often someone gets handed down a set, and they are looking to fill in the holes or to expand it to more place settings. So, they just buy what they need; not order another set.
Packing and shipping a full set would probably require 2, 3, or 4 boxes and even more boxes within each box. It would take significant time and effort, and might not be worth it. Plus, eBay doesn’t make it easy to calculate shipping for more than one box, so you have to estimate for an across the country purchase.
I have one set that I got for free, but I couldn’t find many sales of it on eBay. I think that it wasn’t a common pattern (or brand for that matter), so I decided to sell it as a set. However, I have it listed as local pickup. It has been sitting in my basement for about two years, and I’m expecting it to be there for awhile.
People who buy vintage clothing know to go by measurements. There’s chest (often called armpit to armpit) and maybe sleeve length or shoulder to hem length (the bottom of the shirt). For pants, the measurement across the waist (I usually give the measurement across and then double it for full waist) and inseam. If you give a waist measurement, you might want to mention that their personal waist measurement should be an inch or two less than the pants.
You can try Googling women’s current sizes and say something like “in today’s sizes, this would be about a women’s size 10” or whatever.
12/14/2020 at 9:11 pm in reply to: We Put Our Store on Vacation a 2nd Time Due to USPS Problems #84304My one buyer that is making a stink just opened a dispute with their credit card. I know eBay understands the USPS issues, but I don’t know about her credit card company. They want me to close it by the 20th. I certainly hope it arrives by then; otherwise, I’m out $89 plus shipping. Fortunately, I guess, this is an item on commission, so I will just not pay if I lose. I will be out the shipping cost.
@Amatino – Yes, the two of us are fine now. Just needed money (for the car) and time (for me). Thanks for asking 🙂
I also have one of those buyers who is anxious about a late delivery. She keeps messaging me every day about the late shipment. Nothing nasty; just annoying. I first messaged her about how USPS was experiencing delays, then I told her I opened an inquiry, and then I messaged her that a USPS employee called from her local facility and explained how their sorting facilities were swamped or closed down due to lack of personnel. But, she keeps messaging me every day “my item still hasn’t arrived”. Today, I just said something like “Please read my last message. There isn’t anything more I can do at this point”. I think I will just copy and paste the same message when I get another message tomorrow (unless I see movement in tracking).

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $81
Number of items listed this week: 24Decently strong week, and four items sold on Etsy, which is a record for me. I should list a few more things there.
I’m not really sourcing right now. My garage is filled with stuff, but I want to be able to park there. I did buy some of the soaps Dan posted about a few days ago. Since biting insects seem to have some kind of natural attraction to me, I have an interest in a natural product that will help to ease the itching. I’ll save a few for me and sell the rest.
I forgot to mention. Three items were added to the challenge.
I listed 24 items.
The popup challenge helped get the ball rolling with the first 15, but I had some challenges this week between my car breaking down (ended up replacing the radiator) and a bad reaction to my dinner on Friday evening.
12/13/2020 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Taxes for 2020 – Sales over $20,000 split between Paypal and Managed Payments #84247Whether you get a form or not, your sales are taxable. If you have been not paying taxes in the past, that just means that the IRS didn’t catch you 🙂
You should get your records separately from eBay and PayPal, and then make sure to deduct all your expenses.
I don’t have much, but I’ll throw out the two listings I have.
I almost forgot to post. I was lucky because I had taken photos the previous two days. I managed 15.
12/11/2020 at 11:04 am in reply to: Trippensee Planetarium, Pioneer headphones, Dog backpack, Panasonic speakers #84178Steve – I’ve never seen a Trippensee Planetarium, but yet you’ve sold two and have one of your own. I’ll keep my eyes out for one.
Some of my best ROIs is with incomplete dish sets. Someone requested a combined purchase of salad and dinner plates with this stoneware set from Target. I think I paid maybe $3 for the whole set? And, I’ve already sold a good bit of it already. I sold a total of 12 plates for $84. I’m mostly left with mugs now.

This Swarovski pin is one of my commission sales, which sold for $89. Unfortunately, it is one of my packages stuck in the USPS backlog of deliveries. I’ve submitted an inquiry because the buyer is anxious, and I want to look like I’m doing something.

This ashtray was purchased in a large lot of vintage tools. I paid maybe $12 for the whole lot, so let’s say $1 for this one item, and it sold for $50.

Here is another item from that same lot that sold for $30, so maybe allocate another $1 for the sale. It’s an antique nail puller.

I recently purchased a the contents of a closet full of drapes and other linens for the starting bid of $1. I made sure to get this Christmas tablecloth listed quickly. It had several stains. I tried a few stain removing products, but some did not come out, so I soaked it in diluted bleach solution overnight. It worked! I disclosed that I had to remove stains in the condition statement, and it sold for $20.66. I have many, many more items yet to list from that $1 online auction purchase.

I purchased the contents of a bathroom closet in an online auction for a few dollars, and it included a several unopened cosmetic products. This product is sold via one of those home sales companies (I assume MLM). It sold for $40, and I have a similar product still listed.
