Retro, I inspected maybe half of the stuff before we bid on it to make sure there was some decent money to be had, but yes, the other half we are still going through and finding some gems.
Just pulled a Dye ironman M2 paintball pistol, brand new in original box.
It’s going to be a good long day…Jay, total for the 2 lots was just under 2k US, I already have someone interested in seeing the guitar on friday for just about what I paid for everything. It was all stuff seized at either the ports or airport, or shipped in by companies like Fedex that the owner did not claim or did not pay taxes on. Big mixed bag of everything…
Retrotreasures, I know they are worth more than scrap, but trying to sell off valves one by one locally or online is not what I am after. If I try selling to a local hardware store it would be a lot of running around and no one store would buy 100’s at a time. My online sales here I try to keep a minimum sales price of just over $25 so i can offer free shipping, mercadolibre pays shipping on items over $549 pesos, and I checked, very very few of these sell online here.
I know it’s a shame to scrap em, but it is a fast nickle versus a very slow dime situation for me…-

About the most I do is to buy missing power cords for electronics and maybe a light cleaning of items. Doing full on restoration of items could really pay off, but I just do not have the skills…
Another great podcast, thanks for keeping up on these, I look forward to hearing what you both have to say every week.
Slow week sales wise for me, but spent alot of the week getting ready to pick up two lots of goodies in cancun that I won at auction. Arranging a scrap dealer to meet me on site to buy a bunch of stuff there that I did not want to ship back here and then arranging the transportation for 3 pallets worth of decent stuff and helping load all that when the box truck showed up, very sweaty day overall. Now to list it all…
Good sales to come! Finally figuring out how to post pics, sorry, took me a while to figure out…
A bunch, well, 60 something pounds, of brass and copper going for scrap tomorrow, from the lot also.

https://imgur.com/KLYWrBx$350,000 for a boat! Jeeezzzzz, I can think of SO many better things to do with that kind of money…
I guess my why is very similar to most of the other answers, it gives me the freedom to do what I want pretty much when I want.
We live well for less, we own both cars, own our house, have no debt and have solar panels so our electric bills are a few bucks a month. When you no longer have any serious bills it is a lot easier to live well for less.
Just remember, when you have little cash the banks CHARGE you to keep it with them, but when you have a lot of cash banks PAY you to keep it with them…Selling online is mostly in between work, the fun of scavenging is maybe 20% of the time…
05/01/2019 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Well… full-time it is! My eBay Journey goes full throttle. New Journal #61063Wow, sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you! Bumping your total listings like that is certainly possible, but it is going to be a full time job for you from here on out.
It also sounds like you should be okay for the next 5 months, but my advice would be to think that you only have 3 months, not 5, that will keep you motivated!
Good luck at the yard sales!Brass would be tricky to chip paint off. If you decided to try to strip them it might be better to dip them rather than scrape them, brass is a bit soft and could scratch. Then again, not sure how a stripper would affect brass…
Welcome! Seems like you have both an education in your niche as well as enthusiasm, hard combo to beat!
That’s awesome you hired a helper, the day to day things can take up so much time, ESPECIALLY puppies! I have two bugg puppies right now, mix of pug and boston terrier, I know what you are going through. I had to put hot sauce on my router cables so they don’t chew them anymore!
Glad to see I am not the only one who struggles with this. I have stuff in several different locations in my house, anything in the garage that could/will get dusty is flea market stuff, i have a guy who comes by every week to buy to take to the flea. Nicer stuff/online sales items inside and in the back bedroom. I built a few big pieces of furniture that are on wheels that hold most of my online inventory, nice and easy to get to. Also, just built another large, like 4 feet long, 3 feet wide, 3 feet tall double shelf on wheels that slides right in under my kitchen island. I am just getting ready for a big load of stuff I recently purchased to arrive. Hoping that will be enough space, but I have a feeling that back bedroom will be filling up for awhile hahahaha.
I do this the exact opposite way here in Mexico. After researching sales stats and whats trending I buy on amazon mexico and resell on mercadolibre, mexicos version of ebay. I have a prime acct so shipping is fast and free. I do not load up on any item more than say 2 units to try them out and confirm that they will indeed sell.
I did well on small safes, small lock boxes and petty cash boxes until others started jumping in to the same items and the margin just became too thin for me. You just always have to be looking for similar type items that no one else is selling yet and work it while you can!
Margins are tight on this, but they way I look at it is that it’s better to have money turning over and over than sitting.I would look at this another way, take advantage of out of season for stuff for sale and pick it up for a better price as you can. As an example, puffy north face jackets will be cheaper to buy in june than in december, but they will sell on ebay for about the same $ year round…
