I don’t think we will ever run out of stuff to flip. Most of the things we sell are durable goods and they will either be used for awhile and end up at a yardsale again or collected and eventually hit the market again for any number of reasons.
I think alot of people when they come into some money later in life are trying to get the unobtanium from their childhoods now that they can afford it. Everything from the hot toy when they were a kid that they never got to the car that they had a poster of on their bedroom wall…WOW, seems like alot of folks here had awesome sales, great job!
Sales were slow for me this week on ebay, $200 for a sono zp100.
And on mercadolibre it was DEAD, that’s always the way with semana santa holidays, no one is online buying, they are out at the beaches for the 2 week holiday. This happens every year here so it doesn’t freak me out anymore…Jay, The gov auctions here can be anything from vehicles to properties to just general merchandise. I go for the merchandise, it could be stuff that was sent in to the country via say Fedex and there was duty do and the owner abandoned the items instead of paying the duty due or items that may have just been in the same container as something bad, you ever really know.
I have gotten lots that are all mixed up with luggage, to toys, to airguns, sporting goods, etc. I just bought two lots and inspected before bidding, it is all online so I had to travel a few hours to be able to inspect in person because the pictures they include are less than ideal and the descriptions they put on the list are poor also.
A few lots ago there was just a line item of 10 kg of toys, they turned out to be original Batman Bushida figures, sold those for something like 300 bucks each…
The lots i just won have everything from a NICE guitar to airplane parts, going to take some research to move those hahahaha…Jay, our cost of living is pretty low here for a decent standard. Neither my wife or myself are in to big flashy/shiny things, and we own our house and cars outright. I am extremely adverse to taking on debt, played that game when i lived in the US and really don’t want to get in to that again…
That pays well but that kind of goes in to other investments, but my day to day money comes from selling online.
Buying at government auctions here is where the best stuff for resale comes from for me. I just bought a decent lot of stuff, three pallets worth that i can go pick up in bout three weeks, some REALLY nice stuff in that lot…Hi Jay,
Nope, too young to be retired quite yet… I originally came down here because i saw opportunity to buy older colonial homes and fix them and flip them, mainly to other foreigners who ARE retiring down here. The market has been up and down over the years but it has worked well for me. Lately I have tended to take my time, fix up a house, live in it for two years and sell, just as in the US if you live in a place for two years before selling it is considered your primary residence and the gain is not taxed…Sounds like you did well on the deals, congrats!
The financing part makes me a bit nervous though, but if that’s what it took, that’s what it took… -
