hm i wonder how much they sold the first one for. couldnt have been that high, that would be insane.
we had the exact same discussion. do we just buy the metal building and use if for storage or do we build basically a two story house that could one day be rented (would have to be long term, as our HOA does not allow short term) or split off and sold as a house.
we did the numbers over and over again. building basically a house was going to cost minimum 50k. and we just didn’t want to spend that or put that amount of time in. we just wanted a building ASAP. plus with the metal building we can put it on our credit card and pay off in installments. so we just decided that made sense for us.
and they just finished last night and we’re so excited! more to come on this weeks podcast.
how much did it sell for? it was a really cool piece!
hopefully by the time they are 18, there will just be VR colleges that are free for all.
no permits required? not even a building permit? or did you just not get one because no one is close enough to call it in? just curious.
also remember that adding plumbing would get the health dept involved, whereas just a storage building would only be your county building/zoning offices. the level of complication of the builing makes permitting more complicated too. just more paperwork and inspections, but that should not stop you from making the building exactly what you want it to be, of course.
our building is going up as i type this! very exciting.
we knew it would earn at least $600. we had several other offers of the same amount after it sold from other random dealers. so we knew the auction would be at least that amount, but my guess is that when people offer you an amount it’s usually worth more to a collector/non-dealer.
great idea. please share a link when you put them up!

i’m surprised that you (and others) are surprised. we had the chance to make 10-20x the price i sold it for. the original buyer even offered me 10x the price on the spot. in 10 years this is the only time we’ve ever canceled a sale. i was even 100% honest and communicated directly with my buyer, offered him a discount on anything in my store when i canceled.
the opportunity to be able to pay most of my bills for the month on one sale was not something i was going to pass up. if others would do that and honor the original sale, that’s fine. but honestly the attitudes and comments of some community members on this forum saying we were salivating over a couple hundred dollars is a bit disrespectful in my opinion. you really think that’s how we think of it? you’re on a forum of a podcast that we produce every week, you’re part of a community we built and continue week in and out to maintain, if you thought of us that way, then you must not listen or read anything on here for the last 4 years.
