Once upon a time I sold a stereo that had a volume control issue. I refunded the buyer, and then told him that if he got some electrical contact cleaner and sprayed it in there that it would likely fix it. He did that and then sent me a check in the mail for the original amount.
Stand up people in this world rule. There needs to be more of them.
I like the idea Jay has of asking him to buy from you in the future.
I had a good post about data, but wordpress keeps flagging it as a 403 error and I don’t know why.
Long story short, I’ve always been around half of my sales through promoted listings. Nothing has changed so folks are still seeing and buying my normal listings.
It is very easy to pull your total sales for a date range and also pull your promoted listings for the same range. I recommend everyone do this every once in a while to gauge how many of your sales are from PL.
I use bright white marine vinyl from the craft store. I actually had a huge roll of it from a bulk photography purchase a while back. I just cut off a new piece and was good as new. It lasted a LONG time before I decided to replace it.
Very durable and is easy to clean. Eventually it gets dings and stains though.

New Listings 36I made some improvements to my photo station this past week. I changed out my white vinyl (which had gotten pretty dirty) and raised the height about a foot. Now I can photograph pants by hanging them. Photographing pants has always been a pain in the butt and I avoided it. Now it is super fast! I will still use a mannequin for any pants I want to stand out.
Always be improving.
Other than that, I’m over here trying to get stuff listed and hoping my store sales improve. My fall goal was to average $941 in gross sales a week and I’m falling behind already.
I thought this got shut down a while back? So they decided to go through with it anyways?
I shared above that I’ve seen a drop in impressions and clicks on Private listings in September compared to June-August. Can a few more people check their numbers and see if there is a drop?
Interesting. I wish he would have shared some screenshots or something of what he is talking about.
I did check my metrics for promoted listings. There is a definite drop in impressions and clicks in September – about 30% compared with June-August. I just added like 100 listings to promoted listings and didn’t get much of a bump.
I always leave original price tags on vintage items. I always remove thrift store tags.
Any idiot who complains about the price on a vintage tag was never going to buy your item anyway, so don’t sweat it.
Once upon a time I used my employers UPS account to ship some items I sold (not through ebay but through a hobby forum). The discount was awesome (and yes I had permission). I just paid the secretary cash for however much the label cost.
The issue came when I had a shipping damage claim. The shipping refund check was issued to my company – not to me. The company accountant had to issue me a check and he was really pissy about it. It wasn’t worth the hassle from that point on if I had to deal with that guy possibly in the future.
I subconsciously recognized that something was off with the website version of offers without knowing exactly what the problem was. Thinking back, I’ve purposely been leaving the website and going to my phone to deal with offers. I’ve seen the bug of the offer appearing to be gone as well as the buttons seeming to be in the wrong place.
I recommend that you spend some time feeling and inspecting bags (and leather coats). Once you run your hands across enough leather and learn the qualities and various types of leather you will develop a keen sense of quality and value.
You can do the same thing with clothes and shoes. Sometimes I just walk down a clothing rack I’m not particularly interested in and run my hand along the clothes while glancing. I can find the high quality materials this way like wool, pima cotton, etc.

New Listings 58The week was TERRIBLE. Going into Friday I only had 7 sales for like $125! I recovered well over the weekend, but dang that sucked.
My daughter had something she wanted to buy so she has been pressing to get into doing ebay work with me. She is doing an excellent job taking photos. She did 25 items this week for me. I pay her 50 cents an item. I wish she did her chores and homewrok with as much enthusiasm, effort, and attention to detail. Lol!
The bright side of the week is that I got alot of listings up. I want to push and do 100 listings this week.
I came across an interesting pair of jeans pulling from my death pile this weekend. It was a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren mens Jeans. I always get these as they are usually a quick $30. I noticed a model name on the inside of the pocket. The value was higher for this model, yay! Then I noticed one of the higher priced listings mentioned the jeans had selvedge seams. What? I checked in the cuff and sure enough these are Selvedge made jeans. How cool! I’ll get around $100 for them. I had no idea Ralph Lauren had done a Selvedge run of jeans.
On the weekends there is a massive line outside just to get in. They only let a certain amount of people in at a time. People show up the night before to wait in line!
I’m also inclined to occasionally accept what would be considered a lowball offer. It just varies from item to item, my current mood, how my sales are doing, and how old the item is.
It’s not personal. You gotta just let it roll off of you.
If you are already significantly the low price and you know it, you should consider turning off best offer.
You can also set a minimum offer on your listings so you never even see this offers – they’ll be autodeclined until they exceed the low limit. As a buyer I have no problem making a lowball offer on an item I don’t truly need or if there are numerous sellers. I want to find the seller willing to cut a deal.
Now as a seller I have no set policy when I get a lowball offer. Sometimes I’ll decline their first offer. Sometimes I’ll counter with a few bucks off. Sometimes if the item is older I’ll come down significantly. What I will do is if they counter back with the same offer just a dollar higher I will decline and add the following message:
“Thank you for your offer, but we are not in the same ballpark. If you wish to submit a more reasonable offer I will consider it. Thanks.” -
